Hello to all, Hope this is the right area to ask this...just bought a rifter and was thinking of putting 200mm Autocannons I on it. Looking at the gun itself has an optimal range of 1,000 m with an accuracy falloff of 4000m. I was looking at two different types of ammo namely the Nuclear s and EMP s. I noticed that the Nuclear s has a -40 range bonus while the EMP s has a 50 range bonus. Pretty obvious that I dont know alot about guns/ammo but if I mount this gun on my rifter how does a -40 range bonus affect the optimal range of my 200mm AC or does it? Same for the 50 range bonus? I guess that I just dont get the range bonus on ammo typesIs there a formula or guide? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks SETH

Affects optimal range.

Ammo range modifiers affects the optimal range. This is an advantage for Minnie guns, as they have large-enough falloffs so that they're effective enough to fight in.
Compared to other turret systems, no other weapon system works best in falloff ranges. -

Just to clarify, in addition to the above: if you have a short optimal range and a long falloff, cutting your optimal range in half (for high-damage ammo) doesn't hurt you a lot since the falloff makes up the bulk of your effective range (effective range usually is optimal+falloff).
Especially with autocannon there's no excuse not to use high-damage ammo.

So if I have an optimal range of 1,000m and I use Nuclear S which has a -40 range bonus my actual optimal range is 600m? And what about EMP s which has a 50 range bonus? Help this struggling math student....lol. SETH.

Correct, and EMP will have a 500m optimal range. Normal T1 ammo does not affect falloff range, although a couple of T2 ammos do(Hail, most notably) ------------------ Fix the forums! |

Note that the Item Database on the EVE website has the signs reversed. EMP has -50% bonus and Nuclear has +40% bonus.

I was going to say it, so here it is... 1000 opti with nuclear = 1400 opti 1000 opti with EMP = 500 opti
The database looks backward you just have to get use to it.

Also thought I would put this in here. After you load your chosen ammo into your gun and then show the info of that specific gun, the Optimal Range stat changes to automatically reflect the negative or positive effect the ammo has on your range.

and below avg dps because of high alpha which isnt quite as usefull these days as it was waaaay back when.
Mins also have horrible tracking, poor ewar, abit less tanking than other races (on avg?) and slightly faster ships.
Lets not forget how fun haveing 10 ammo with loaded arties and their long reload times are.
