So I did a forum search and came up with some really old threads about this topic, so I wanted to post.
I came into my computer room the other day to see if my asteroid had finished mining as I was doing some house cleanup. I sat down, and felt a rush of hot air from below the desk flowing up. Since then, I've realized if EVE is running my computer runs ABSURDLY hot. I put my hands on the back and it's right next to the GPU (8800GTS). I can run WAY more graphically intensive games on high settings and not get any increase in temp, give eve 20 minutes and it's boiling.
Is there any reason why this happens? I have my computers on a kvm, and I was running eve on both for a while. The other computer had a random alarm go off, I never figured out what it was and I'm wondering if it was the temp gague.
Any hints would be appreciated.

Try turning on vsync, this should limit amount of pressure put onto gpu.

I had similar problems with my 8800 GTX on my m15x in EVE.
Check if you have your latest driver version !
