Hi, I'm currently piloting a Drake and trying to decide what my next ship should be. I've been working down the Shields, Missiles, and Electronics skill trees. I was thinking it could be fun to fit a Scorpion for EW, but after reading about the target jamming nerfs and crunching some numbers I am discouraged.
I'm not in a corp yet, so I'm looking to set up a ship that is solo viable but can be fitted for larger scale PvP. Is the Scorpion still an effective ship for this? Compared to my other options (particularly the Raven)? Figured I could fit cruise missiles and racial jammers with one or two multis for long range capabilities, or torpedoes and a bunch of multis if I expect to stay short range.
Thanks.

The scorp is almost viable as a solo pvP ship, but it's gimped by it's low lock speed and lack of DPS. +25 scan res and +25mbit drone bandwidth/bay would make scorp a good ship...

its such a shame the scorp doesnt have abundant mid slots so it may fit something like a sensor booster :(

Scorpion is AMAZING addition to any gang - EWar, heavy neut, smartbombs to take drones down, DPS from missiles, a buffer weak by BS standards but still sizeable when dealing with roaming gangs - HOW THE HELL CAN YOU GO WRONG?
Train up for the thing, every skill that you need for it will be useful on other ships.

Yes, the scorpion has 8 mid slots but let's think about what that really is expected to hold:
Tank EWAR Sensor Boosters Tackle
Mal's point was correct really - the scorpion can ALMOST pull off that solo battleship thing. It just falls a little shy on too many areas. 65k EHP, 2 multispecs and 650 DPS is just not good enough to be considered a soloable ship.
For gang work the choices for mid slots become laughably simple: ECM + sensor boosters

For gang it's OK (I use them myself), but he asked about solo.
And even in gang, that low, low locking speed is a serious issue.

I've used Scorp occasionally to kill mission runners. It works well enough... it's just that a torp Raven is better.

The Scorp is not the solo ship you're looking for. However, in a gang of *any* sort it's unbelievable. It's the ship I trained Caldari BS5 for.

EDIT: Powerful in a gang that is tackling and target painting everything though __________________________________________________
