Personally I would like it to close when you hit the play button.
I tend to run multiple clients and and forget to close the launcher. It causes issues changing between clients when running since it shows as a client running on the task bar.
Ideally, I would like to be able to log in using the new launcher instead of it just taking me to the login splash screen.
Having to go through a second step to log in combined with the fact the launcher remains active and uses memory space (although minimal) , just makes the process more cumbersome then it needs to be.
I know its still new and CCP may even have plans for it, but I would really like it if the launcher and login screen where combined somehow, then have it close once logged in like the old login screen did / does.
CCP has always been awesome with its programming and application, but other then the fact you have to completely log out to switch characters on the same account, this is the first thing that has caused me to stop and think to myself." why in gods name is this set up this way?".
The addition of a log out vs quit choice for changing characters withing the same account has been something ALL of us have wanted for a long time, but for now I would just be happy with a refined launcher.
Any feedback would be appreciated, Thank you. |

For reference, it actually doesn't show as a client running in the task bar, it just has the same icon. I know this because if you pin it to the task bar, and then open the clients, it says over the pinned icon and the clients appear at the bottom of the pinned crap area.
This also makes it easy for me to tell the clients apart from the launcher. Ishtar Starfire: As a pure caldari pilot i feel that with the deployment of the new tier 3 battlecruisers you have given an unfair advantage to everyone except caldari pilots. an example would be like giving a fat kid a whole cake while the skinny kid has to watch and get nothing.

You can already set the launcher to close itself after launching the game, it's in the launcher settings.
And I'm not in favor of moving the login screen out of the client. Right now everything needed to play the game is contained in ExeFile.exe and you can launch that directly if you need to bypass the launcher for some reason. I would rather log in from inside the game itself, not some stupid launcher.
Also, you're wrong that the login screen closes itself after you log in, since there's nothing to close. That login screen is part of the main Eve program, it simply loads the next screen you need after you log in. So what you're proposing isn't combining two distinct parts of the connection process, you're proposing ripping the login code out of the game itself and putting it into the launcher program.

It still interests me that CCP thinks i need to see two splash screens rather then the one that ignore already.

OK. I found the startup tab under the launcher settings that allows me to only show the launcher if there is an update (wich is nice), and the option to close the launcher after starting EVE.
Having both those selected makes things way easier, thanks for pointing it out.
Having it set up that way makes the setup way more acceptable in my eyes so I should be good now.
An auto updating login screen would be pretty nice in the future though. I'm just curious if CCP has any thoughts on that.
Not to mention the "switch characters without completely closing the game" issue. It would be nice to switch to my market alt without retyping my username and password after restarting the client every time.
I'ts just something I've been wondering if they have thought about at all.
Thanks again for the info on the settings though, apparently I'm blind. |

It would be very handy to be able to switch character in game like we do in here but wouldn't that cause gameplay issues? I can see someone getting webbed and pointed and dying and then 'switch character' to try and save himself. Maybe the fact we have to log all the way out has something to do with the cooldown timer you get when quitting game in space - still scannable for 15 mins etc? I dunno.
Bump for a corpie anyway. :) |
