Edited by: Obsidian Dagger on 01/08/2008 17:12:02 Okay. So I am a happy little carebear, I mission and mine, and have a tiny ****-poor corp that struggles by. I have fun, as does my corpmate, and you know, its all harmless. I may someday crack and turn pirate, but only once I feel ready. Until then... well.
So here is the funny story I have today. Many of you will think its dumn, and will likely say so, but it amused me.
My corpmate was out, happily mining. He was just trying out his new retriever, still reclining in that 'new starship' smell, fresh leather upholstery all shiny, not a dink in the paintwork... And yes, jet can mining. Now since he had a *ehem* corpmate sitting next to him in his mammoth for most of the time. That mammoth had gone to drop of ore, and a pirate arrived. Now this pirate, being bold and clever, sneaked up to my corpmates retriever, and very skillfully flipped his can. Unfortunatly, my corpmate is in the habit of leaving his jet can window open at all times when USING it, so was a bit puzzles as to why his can a: Vanished in a puff of smoke, and b: was replaced by a YELLOW can a few seconds later. My poor corpmate was so confused and frightened by this he started laughing. The pirate, in his thorax, started buzzing around, waiting for his moment to strike! My corpmate ignored him, and shouted at me to come see this crap. I obliged, jumping in my worn, but trust missionship, believing, carebear that I am, that the little thorax might take the hint when it saw a Megathron show up, not knowing its fitting and whatever. me: Drat, he's older than I expected. Corpmate: Yeah. Me (Mentally - lol): I'll try to bluff him.
So I asked (a bit rudely, but I had been almost asleep on my chair, and hate being woken up for crap), the pirate to leave. (NOW of course.)
Some random missioning somewhere got a bit of a shock at that, and said so. I explained things to him.
What followed was ten minutes off the funniest time I have ever had in Eve. Pirate wanted a fight. I didnt really, but was prepared to defend a corpmate, so in my missionship, started orbiting and locked the pirate. He returned the lock. Yay.
A serpentis spawned. Boom serpentis.
Me: Damn, I was hoping this guy was stupider than me. Corpmate: Lol (Or something like that. He might have giggled actually, but I wasnt paying attention)
A bit of 'smacktalk' involving me being called a carebear, and 'weak' Well, yeah. Clue is in the corpname genius.
This went on. I even agreed to fight him, when he was safely at 30k.
Interestingly I got a warning, despite pirate already being red to me. Woops, should have done my homework. So I begin circling his can for a while. and a while. and a while. and a while.
Really I couldnt do anything else exept laugh as he kept getting closer and closer, under 400m off my butt... Did he seriously think I was going to engage him at THAT range? Even with blasters a mega cant hit that. Much LOL was had by me and corpmate (Who by now was in a Myrm, but told to keep well back) More time passes. Finally, pirates corpmate arrives, in a dominix. More Lol's. In the meantime, customers had been coming into the shop where we work. Computer stuff was sold, chatting was had. Powerless, bored, pirates were ignored. On return, the first pirate got really super bored and left. Pirate corpmate got bored shortly after and left.
By now the giggles were making me feel ill, so I had to stop and have some soda. My corpmate had to go catch his bus home, and I decided to reveal how I had a gay ol' time at the expense of pirates. (Seriously, any closer and this guy would have been violating my thruster port(s)!)
So that is my story of my first brush with can flippers and gankers. My four month old self is now... well, still a n00b. But those good old playground tactics learned so hard so long ago have stood me in good stead.
Hate or ignore below.
Happy flying!
(Pirate dude - you know who you are - lets get together. Wine, movie, wild passionate thruster-port love...!)

almost as exciting as this story
but lets give the guy a break. he¦s only 4 months old. we all remember how everything was exciting then.
and like a replier in the other thread said, at least it isnt a whine. just a guy posting that enjoys the game. i guess there isnt any wrong with that, even though it was rather un-interesting

Congratulations, you won!
On gank day I flipped cans while looking for rigged hulks. Not one but TWO miners wasted 15 minutes each looking like they might at any point take their ore back but never actually doing it. The second set of two left several nearly full cans of scordite to rot rather than chance it, even though I was out of the system for a good 10 minutes.
And nobody flew a rigged hulk on that day, making my evening a complete waste of time.
Can flipping and ganking is much harder than it looks.

Yeah, there's no way a Megathron with blasters and heavy drones would be able to hit a Thorax in web range. You were right not to engage him.

heh. try 425mm Gausses. No frakking WAY was i going to engage him. Not within 70k at any rate.
It was funny as hell watching him try and taunt me though. That was my main point guys. its not really funny out of context, but I had to write it up, at the time, it was priceless. If i could have JUST managed to get him to fire on me, it would have made for pirate tears, but sadly he was too smart for that. Thanks for reading anyway, hope to see you sometime, when I get big enough to run with the real bad boys ;)

Why not just slap some blasters on and kill him then? No one wants to read forum posts about you ignoring a can baiter and doing nothing.

I'll tell you my story, but, quid pro quo, you'll tell me more first.
How did it make you feel when you selected the Thorax and clicked "Lock target"? Did you start sweating? Did you hear lambs crying?
And when the Domi arrived, did it turn into your mother, and produce hate in you, stemming from when she comes into your room and shouts "Goddamn it -name-, stop playing that stupid game!"? Did you want to bump her?
Quid pro quo, my agent.
