I think it'd be interesting experiment to remove missions from Eve, or at least from high sec
Missions currently form the basis for probably about half of isk put into the game? They are however, fairly risk free. Unlike ratting, where the best resources are in 0.0 space, missions can be completed in relative safety of high sec with no competition
I can see lots of problems but in theory, the principles on which Eve is built would suggest that ultimately, missions should not be a part of the game in their current form (except maybe COSMOS, since it is one off stuff). Discuss

Sure, remove missiosn, if you can have player created material with players putting in ISK for those people who don't want to steal/haul for a living.
Missions, as is, is a way to make a living doing..well..."whatever needs done", so if the players can set up contracts of that sort and create content, remove NPC missions.

Remove the bounties from rats as well. After all, people can rat in 0.0 in relative safety as well with no competition.
I know less than you think I do.

Actually, removing missions, complexes and rat bounties is a good idea. Players should make money from killing other players, or mining. That's it.
I mean, this is Counter Strike in space, right?

Basically remove all PvE from the game..... Are you nuts? I don't know about other people but I'm a mission runner/miner, mining is really boring, but it makes me more ISK then missions, I'm only doing missions to get standing for jump clones and to lower the % taken when refining.
As for targetting high sec mission running, and where are the noobs meant to learn combat? not from being Ganked at some random Stargate Camp.

Ooh! Even better idea! Let's remove all spaceships smaller than a BC!
Some people shouldn't be allowed to speak in public... honestly.
This thread is the epitome of what's wrong with Eve. It's gotten so focused on PvP and killing each other, that players don't even grasp the notion that some of us don't want to be space pirates.

Competition between players for the missions?
I think this would be interesting, and might be better for the game.

good for the game, yes...
for the lag part especially.
high sec carebears gone due to forced to regulate to a role as slaves/sheep = less lag
less isk = less people using T2 and other stuff = good for T1 loot sellers?
....but yeah, CCP accounting will have your head.....

This is the point. Missions are dull as dishwater. Do you really want to play a boring game?
I was kinda hoping someone would come along and say "Ah, but what would you replace missions with?" Then could follow some constructive debate about how to fill the hole in isk earnings left by taking out missions and at the same time not replace them with something just as repetitive or with all the same flaws

No one ever learned pvp from running missions (nor from getting ganked either :P). But you still have the crappy belt rats in high sec
There'd be other problems with relying on ratting and plexes as people's income sources. It is hard to get into 0.0 (in terms of the psycological barriers as well as skills needed to survive and knowing how to avoid chokepoints etc).
Market hubs will suffer as well if there isn't the demand for faction gear or whatever else from mission runner pilots and of course if everyone is out in 0.0 or low sec, there are obvious security problems for traders

Some would say Eve is all about pvp and being "space pirates". Certainly the entire setup of the game is skewed toward that end if you hadn't noticed
What I was more getting at is that the end game for mission runners is getting a faction fitted CNR and flying level 4's. Why do people still run missions once they've achieved that? Because it is a means to an end, a way to make isk, a grind.
On the basis that other methods of earning income are less grindy (mining aside) was the basis for suggesting that "in a cold, harsh, dark universe" like Eve, you shouldn't be rewarded for doing near zero risk, mechanical repetitive tasks.
---
Also it is ppl like you who give no constructive criticism who really shouldn't be allowed to speak in public. The epitome of Eve-o threads is that they're full of comments like yours

I think is a little too late for that experiment...
new server/new game maybe...
but yeah, ...... people dont like having things taken away from them... which could hurt CCP's wallet...
so, maybe a "hardcore" server?

CCP has made Eve different from every other MMO out there, because there are no "servers".
You don't meet someone at work or school, as say "Hey, I play Eve too! What server are you on?" And then when you find out it's not the same as yours, then the conversation is over.
If you know someone in Eve, then all you need to do is travel to their system and join them.
So making separate servers would be completely against the spirit of Eve so far.
Missions serve several purposes.
1) Build standings with corps, and build LP for items.
2) Introduce players to game mechanics, such as combat, trading, production, etc.
3) Give an easy source of ISK, so players can make money without having to kill each other and sell the loot.
4) Give players a reward for actively participating in gameplay. Other games would have you level according to the amount of time you invest. Eve allows leveling by way of Skill Training whether you're online or not. So the reward for actively playing is making money.
5) Most importantly... CCP understands that a diverse game will bring more customers, and more money, than a totally single-minded game. So adding PvE content will cater to the Care Bears, while adding PvP content will cater to the Pirates. If they eliminated one or the other, then they would lose out on that percentage of the playerbase. --- Don't take my ranting personally. this post does have a point, and on top of that you get MUCH more sec status for killing the bigger rats, AND you get MUCH more bounty from them, someone said before that you cna make 50mil an hour from 00 ratting alone easily

the simple question here is does CCP want to loose 30+% of their customers or not.... I let you think about that.....
if you remove PVE you will make EVE into counterstrike in space like one earlier mentioned ! and than only the people that likes that kind of game play will stay.....
pirates who have a simple minded idea about forcing the PVE people out into 0.0 are missing the point !! if pirates got their way and CCP forces the PVE players out into 0.0 the PVE'ers would simple go find another game to play... and than CCP would have lost customers... and the pirates would have even less easy target to shout !!
so really a loose loose situation, you are proposing.
my 2 cents

Dear CCP,
Please remove the majority of your user base. You didn't want that money anyway.
