If you killed ships in combat missions you would have got a security gain. Open your character sheet and click the 'Security Status' button. it shows the security percentages you have gained (you get a hit every 10-15 minutes as I understand it).
The bigger the ship you kill the better sec hit you get. I have found that ratting Battleships in 0.0 gets the best security hit. Level 4 missions in empire also gives quite good security gain.
If you are only running lvl 1 missions your security standing will creep up incredibly slowly |

What is security status even good for? Sure, get -.* and you get shot at in .* space, but does good Sec. Status do anything?

You only get security increases for shooting the major pirate faction (guristas, sanchas etc) so shooting navy ships (amarr, etc), Merceneries or EoM priests and the likes wont get you anything in that matter. If you kill pirate faction ships you should get a sec increase every 10-20 minute, and the highest bounty ship you killed during that time is what counts.
The only ships that really give you any increase to consider are battleship rats so to raise sec in missions you need to do lvl 4 missions.
hope this helps /M

No. Besides showing others you PvE and don't attack people much, when it's at 5+.

Some missions are broken and don't give security increases. Duo of Death and Worlds Collide (gur/serp, gur final room) for sure don't give any sec gains, even though they are against major factions.

If you are running normal missions for one of the major factions say, Caldari, and not involved in Faction Warfare, will your standings with the enemy factions, Gallente and Minmatar, go down. this is normal missions where you are killing pirate NPC's not faction forces?

NOPE
i might be wrong, but
if u hunt in 0.0 space bounty rats u gain security stat and with rare officer spawns you can go beyond the 5.0 barrier..so far so good
but if u hunt ppl in 0.0 space u dont loose security stat
so a sec stat above 5+ shows only that u are not often criminal or know a way to get ur sec stat fast enough back :-)) it shows NOT that u are more PVE than PVP

Not for regular missions, no. The important missions that raise your standing with the Caldari State will, perforce, lower your standings with the State's enemies. ________________________________________________
