Ive had quite a few trial accounts and have signed up for a paying account a few months back. With all the new graphics updates in trinity and Empyrean i think it would be well suited in the next major patch or age or whatever to add visible damage to ships and visible weapon impact effects something to top off the amazing look of the game. Something like lasers create lasting burn effects on the hulls of the ships as well as small fires and maybe some kind of molten metal spray from the intense heat and holes in the hull plating. Or for example a missile would dislodge plating and create gaping holes in the hull. Rail guns could create holes in the hull as well as particle spray effects from impacting rounds. And projectile weapons like artillery would create something similar to rail guns but more of a just a hole in the hull not as big on particle spray effects. This would just add that thing to this game which would make it a truly awesome sight to see.

Yes please. Also have them stay there till you pay the station to buff thm out. Buffing them out would be cheap though maybe just a couple of isk dependent on hull size and dirt accumulation. --Bird of Prey: Forum God

Only makes sense that the weaponry would create visible scaring and hull damage. Frankly i don't have any idea why it wasn't implemented before. It would look epic especially in a fleet battle with severed chunks of ships and hull plates flying around.

Actually with the tendency for people to blob fleet warfare is where I would turn that stuff OFF --Bird of Prey: Forum God

Would depend on if people want to enable it or not cus it would for sure require more RAM , CPU and GPU to run it in large fleet battles

I always thought that the armor repair system recollected severed and separated bits of the armor and reconstructed them back into their original form. So as long as you have an armor rep, you have an auto-buffer, and bits of armor aren't left behind at all. Unless somehow new armor is created with capacitor energy.

I was meaning more of they would stay gone until u were to repair at an actual station. Repairing in the field would simply up your HP but would not fix cosmetic damage. Persistent visible damage would be amazing. Players could just keep repairing in the field to show off the damage to there ship as a sort of trophy.

That doesn't make any sense. I think you mean that the ships would show scuff marks and like... burn marks, but no actual chunks would be missing unless your armor is low and you don't repair. Then I would understand "missing bits".

I don't think your ship should have any holes in it if its HP is full as that wouldn't make sense for stuff to be missing after you repaired it.
It should keep scars though, I would imagine armor reconstructed using nanites would look different from the original plates welded together --Bird of Prey: Forum God

When I get to much structural dmg I see exhaust fumes and even flames coming out of my ship. Giving me the indicator to get the hell out of there or lose my ship ;)
For the rest extra options aren't bad, but should be able to be turned off. Sometimes loading other players is already more then enough a pain. I don't want to have to load their armor damage also. Especially not when they are mostly just a bracket on my screen ;)

Eve badly needs to catch up in the graphics department. The latest bump was in the right direction, but it's still not enough.
Damage wise they could keep the whole thing client side. Custom damage for your ship, generic damage for everyone else's that's based entirely on what their actual points are atm.
The only way you'd be able to show anything off is in screen shots

Edited by: Maceross on 07/08/2008 16:35:40 I like this idea too :) your right EVE does need a bit of a boost in the graphics department. It looks great dont get me wrong, but when you put it beside some of the new space games in development it already looks dated, simply down to special effects, enviroments and the extra details such as this one, which are still last last gen, or missing entirely.

What about those shield tankers that never have any armor damage to leave "battlescars" (or if they do hit armor, they are boned)?
Meh, I'd like to see it attempted, but I think it probably comes down to the same reason you can't have customizable skins or decals on your ships... graphics lag.

"graphics lag"
Thats what options are for. if your pc is too slow to handle it you would turn stuff like this off. But for those who want the pretties its a great addition.
also for shield ships being cleaner, thats kinda the point of the shields :) it will also leave more scarring on those which have been in battle and not repaired their hulls yet. where as armour ppl may have theirs fixed up at the end of each fight.

I would LOVE to see this in the game...
And as far as shields are concerned...They should just light up in the area where they get hit and become dimmer and dimmer as they are damaged...

It would be great to have this in game.
As I mentioned already in other threads similar to this, Eye Candies are everything and the current animations simply dont match with the new Eve Graphics.
