It reminds me of those science music videos that used to be at the end of Bill Nye The Science Guy. It is quite funny in how they manage to explain what it does, and what they hope to find and some of the back ground physics. Great find. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it.

The backbeat and balance could use some work, but for a half dozen scientists this is actually better written than some of the rap charts top stuff.

And these people play with devices that cost as much as buying a small country and which can create miniature "Big Bangs"? I'm glad I don't live near that place.

*sigh* Unless they manage something as far out there as creating an antimatter cascade something like that won't happen (and the chances of that happening are absolute nil. Well, not absolute nik, but it would require some God taking a direct intervention. In fact you're about as likely to cause an antimatter cascade by breathing).
As for "oh god they're laik so irrespunsible". If you think that creating something like the LHC rap disqualfies someone from playing with a multi-million dollar particle accelerator, then you really really don't want to know what goes on in your local firebrigade station, or what your doctors are doing when they're not talking to patients. Lets just say that M.A.S.H. wasn't too far out there.

It doesn't help that physics has terms like "strange matter" which comes in flavours of up, down and strange. I am not making this up (scroll down to the bit on quantum mechanics).
So if enough people sign this petition we might actually get one of the scientists shouting "Commence Primary Ignition" before they turn the LHC on.

Oh, don't worry, you'll probably be just as ****ed if you live in the same planetary system if anything goes significantly wrong.

Firstly, I'm actually well aware of the capabilities of a device such as the LHC, having followed its progress for quite a number of years and being something of an amateur physicist myself. I was merely kidding. Secondly, having a fireman, a doctor and a nuclear physicist in my family I'm also well aware that some "downtime" is needed for these people to stay sane. This was also just meant to be humorous.
Just one last thing, saying that the chances of something catastrophic occurring at the LHC are virtually nil is wrong. The chance of something going wrong is actually 50%, either something will happen, or it won't, the same as with everything else in life.

Its nothing to be afraid of honestly, it seems horrible, but all you have to do is decrease its speed and its not massive enough to hold together.
Now if it did instantly suck the world in, ok that would be bad .

With black holes that small, won't the extra mass they suck in smash them, causing the hole to break sooner ?

I would think no, because stuff being sucked in only adds mass and thus makes the blackhole stronger, but like I said, it will be a black hole for a very short time because of the speed required.
Now if you mean another particle smashes into the blackhole and oblidorates it? Possibly, I would think the gravity would be enough to hold it together though.
