Thinking of picking up a copy of this game tomorrow, anyone here played it and willing to reccomend or the opposite, it looks different from your average RTS and is pretty intriguing.
Any advise? :)

Yep, it is differnet. Difference isn't enough to overcome the problems it has though.

Lag, lacking in complexity, a general unpolished feeling.

I would give this game a 4/10. It has pretty decent textures for their models and particle effects look pretty good. Game play is only somewhat intuitive and new; I feel that is also has that unpolished feeling. Heck, I ...borrowed... this game and still only played it for 2 or 3 days. IMO if you want a good strategy game pick up Supreme commander & it's expansion. ---------------------------------------------

Frank Klepacki did a good job on the music, he does CnC music. Other than that, it's a run-of-the-mill RTS, but it lacks any sort of depth.

Thanks for the responses guys, I tried out the demo earlier, it seemed pretty fresh for a while, but got a bit slow and repetitive after a few games, I see what you mean about it not being very in-depth or polished.
I tried Sup-Com a while back, I found things took a very long time to get off the road with it, and I'm not sure if my PC was up to running it, ah well.
The music of UaW was very nice though. Pity about the rest of the game, it had some nice potential there. =/

The music to Universe At War is probably its best feature and luckily Petroglyph has made it available for free download. Linkage Just play your favorite tracks under whatever you are playing.

Might I recommend Company of Heroes and Dawn of War? Both are complex games, CoH more so, fast-paced and rife with action.
Those two are sure things.

Edited by: Raymond Sterns on 04/08/2008 18:20:40 I didn't like CoH because my tanks would start shooting each other in the back for some reason :<(stupidest game mechanic ever). Anyways, WH40k: Dawn of War is made of pwn and win. _

To Meiyang Lee, Cheers for that :D was going to try to look it up later. I agree, the track list is excellent. The link itself is incorrect, but you can find it here.
As for DOW, I have all the DOW games, except for Soulstorm, 'cause that thing is trash. Went for the Inquisition and Tyranid Mod over it. Always been a hardcore 40k fan and glad my 'Nids had a way of making it into the game, just hopeful that the new DOWII trailer is them...
COH, I looked into it, but I haven't tried it, may give it a shot, i've been looking around for new RTS games, but a lot of them are a bit eh.

Edited by: NeoShocker on 04/08/2008 21:06:08 If you gonna get Universe at War, do get it from Steam. They also got other titles, like Civilization, WH4k (and expansions), CoH.
I haven't bought an petroglyph product since Empire at War for Star Wars.
If I must recommend an RTS, CoH is one, CnC 3 is another. Oh, and Act of War
I wish more companies use steam to sell their games. Best thing ever. -----------------------------------

I've got EAW and CNC3, Both are pretty good, but not terribly amazing.
Actually, that's crap, I love CNC3, anyway.
Not sure on CoH myself, been looking at it, and as far as WW2 RTS's go, can't quite beat Sudden Strike II. However, Act of War looks interesting. *scouts around for a demo and some reviews*

ACt of War is ap retty good game. Fairly in depth. Not too sure what else you're into, but I always recommend the Total War franchise to everyone. And of course Sins of a Solar Empire. Great game there.

Act of War was a great game but terribly imbalanced and completely dead, Company of Heroes is the best RTS on the market with SupCom taking the title of best conventional RTS.
Other than CoH and SupCom there is really nothing new worth playing.
Empire at War is shallow and poor, CNC3 is shallow, Dawn of War is bloated and shallow, Sins is shallow, UaW is shallow, etc.
