Where: Vylade, Sinq Laison
When: 20:00 Game Time on Tuesday August 12th 2008
What?!: That's right, it's a tech 1 frigate race. Contestants are allowed to fly any tech 1 frigate, excluding faction and navy issues and all that fancy fun.
Fittings are restricted to tech 1 modules, that means only the no-meta modules. No named modules, no faction or tech 2 modules etc.
The race will take place in a high security system named Vylade. It is located in the Sinq Laison region in Gallente space. There will be no warping involved in the race.
I will not take an entry or any other fee, all the money you need to spend on this race is the money for a normal tech 1 frigate and all the tech 1 modules you want to fit on it. It should come to a sum total of less than 1 million.
Why?: Because there's 50 million ISK in it for the winner. Coming out of my wallet of course.
What's in it for me? I want to try my hand at organizing an event, and I believe it will be a lot of fun for everyone. In the future I hope to organize larger events with bigger pots, and maybe even get a little something back, but I wouldn't want to rush that.
I chose to go with a friendly competition (no biting and throwing rocks in high sec) and a bit of a tight restriction so that everyone can join in, and not be overwhelmed by people with large wallets and long e-peens.
So please leave any comments and tell me if this interests you! And be sure to tell all your friends as well! The more the merrier
Any suggestions, questions, statements of interest, exclamations of outrage, general flames, off topic trolls and anything else please don't hesitate to post in here!

Charity is supported by me on any level.
One thing though, how do you intend to prove how any of the entrants have fit their ship? There's bound to be someone out there who thinks they can get away with fitting a T2 or faction mod to their ships because you won't be able to check. There's also the matter of speed imps.
If you can cover this I'll even top the prize up by another 25m.
I won't be able to attend as my speed character is kos to gallente _ Sec & Sat's Lottery |

Thank you!
Ship and cargo scanners should make sure the contestants don't bring anything outside the restrictions.
And as for entering, you could always bring another character, after all it's the fun of participating, and more contestants will certainly make the race more fun
Concerning sponsoring this event, if you want to throw in a prize and the trust thing is not an issue for you then please feel free to do so. But I would encourage you to hold on to it and hand out the prize yourself if possible.

Count me in. Also, I was wondering if we could use Energy Vamps and have out drones. By the way, I would make it near Jita, as it is the trade center and one of the busiest places in the galaxy, a lot of people are there making the race accessible. Not in Jita, but close. Just my thoughts.

Ive been helping out Julius with setting out the course, and its looking like a lot of fun. Obviously as a tester I wont be racing on the day, so Ill be doing a run of the course to show the route and acting as a marshal to ensure no cheating :)
As Julius said, cargo scanners and ship scanners will be used to check loadouts, obviously we cant check for implants, but if someone wants to win that badly, then thats up to them.
I will say this, having run the course, speed will NOT be the deciding factor. It will help, but it's not the be all and end all of this race.
As to the question about energy vamps and drones, if you want to use em, yeah sure. It is in high-sec though...... =============================================== *If you get offended by something I say, you were probably supposed to* *signatory of the "Post with your main" society* *this space for rent* *1 m |

First of all, thank you for showing interest in our event!
On the topic of where, we have already decided to have the race in Vylade, it is a 0.8 security system, you are welcome to bring all the ewar and DPS you can fit within the competition restrictions, but I doubt you would want to get CONCORDed, so it won't do you any good.
Next time I will most likely pick a system closer to Jita, and closer to low security so that people who are a bit security challenged may participate.
P.S Tell all your friends to come

Unfortunately it seems that anywhere we do the race (in high sec anyway) there will be the problem of standings and security and NPCs throwing rocks and lazors and all that. I think your best bet is to bring an alt, even if it's not a very skilled alt, as long as you can fit a microwarpdrive you should be able to participate, and I've set the restrictions so the most possible characters will be able to fit a ship to the full extent of those restrictions.
If you can't bring an alt, then I'm not sure how you will do it (desperately grind Gallente standings for a few days?), but I can inform you that I'm planning to do more races, and the next one will likely be in Uedama, 0.5 security Caldari space, so if you have no way of getting here this time, you're welcome to join in next time! Assuming of course we get enough interest and participants the first time around

Someone sporting snake implants is going to win. Unfortunately that is not me. If I can remember to be there I still may make a showing. Us Minmatar are known for our speed. It would be a shame if we didnt represent!

Actually, I was debating whether to release details about the circuit or not, but I can tell you this: the circuit is designed for speed between aproximately 1,5 and 3 kilometers a second. Test runs show that velocities of more than 3 kilometers a second make it nearly impossible to properly clear the checkpoints. I have been running tests myself and I'm having trouble flying the circuit in my Slasher (4,1kms).
My point is, snake implants are possibly a major drawback for this particular race.
Edit: I'd just like to remind everyone; It's a race, not a dragrace.

Perfect. My ship can do just that with the modules I have put into it. Also, Tuesday is the 12, it seems that I forgot one entire day of my life (last Tuesday) and made the mistake. Well, I will be there and see if I can get some more people to come.

I would sincerely like to let everyone test-fly the track beforehand, but the logistical nightmare that would create with arranging times for everyone, and the question of how to assure nobody bookmarks the circuit and goes back later to practice on it, giving them an unfair advantage. And probably a whole bunch of other headaches that I'm not thinking of at the moment.
So my answer has to be no. You cannot try out the track beforehand. But rest assured that I'm not allowing anyone else to try it either, excluding of course the marshals and people not participating in the race itself.

This is excellent! I was having the idea of organizing a race the other day, but your idea is much better than mine. I was considering all racers to be at near the same skill level or a cap on skill points meaning alts would be used. Also considered all racers use the same frigate. Another idea i had was for a low skill frigate fleet battle. contestants are divided into 2 sides and they go at it. Same setup, use alts with a skill cap so sides are balanced. This would give those who wanted to be in a fleet battle the chance to in an arena environment. Plus its low isk investment and your not messing around with standings and such.

In my experience, free for all frigate fights are very fun. They break with the primary-and-pop fighting style of fleets, and they tend to get very exciting.
I had an idea to do a team frigate fight, where multiple teams of two pilots would slug it out against eachother.

Simply put, either nobody gets to try the track, or everyone gets to, and arranging to let everyone test the track on their own time is a nightmare for me, since I'm organizing this event alone.
But you'll be pleased to know that the race will have three rounds, so the first round should act as a test drive for everyone.
