It seems they've started dropping like flies all of a sudden, who knows, i might be next :) But there's some remarks i'd like to make..
- Motherships aren't interceptors. Disruptor has merit on aeon/nyx but anything else is silly - You get a bonus for RR..use it its one of the very few things you are good for - LOL PIMP TANK...very nice except when you cap out after running it for 5 mins
Everytime a wyvern dies with a damage control fitted, baby jesus gets a kidney stone
that'll be all, back to afk'ing out of POS shields now..or perhaps warp to a station at 0 again, undecided..

We will not walk in fear of one another. |

My understanding is that the extra resists and EHP from a DC isn't regarded as useful as a permarunning tank, which is very slot-intensive.
On the other hand, you could argue that your local tank is inconsequential and that your protection comes from remote-reps. That would suggests fitting for maximum shield buffer - making a DC very useful indeed.
Having minimal experience of capitals, I don't know which philosophy works better in practice.

I remember about a year and a half ago when dreads and carriers died they had all sorts of core x and other faction stuff fitted. At some point people realized that capital ships aren't actually that expensive and just started tech 2 fitting them.
IMO motherships are getting to this point. When a blob of 40 dreads lands that mothership is toast regardless of its fit. Perhaps fitting tackle gear is a bit silly, but in the same situation do you think that an extra hardner / cap mod would have saved them? lol
What I can't come to grips with is people waste isk on officer fits. If you spend 15 bil on a mom then another 15 on a fit why wouldn't you just buy 2 motherships? It's not like theres about 10 auctions per week of these things.

I would rather be able to spend my midslots for better shield resistance then a DCU can give me and in return have the lowslots for capacitor instead of replacing a mid for cap recharger etc...
A carrier/mothership is good at remote repping and therefor Capacitor is life ------------ Somebody set up us the bomb |

because they can.
i know people who could buy 10 motherships and then officer fit them and still wouldnt care.
i faction fit some of my pvp ships or fly faction ships into pvp. yes.. they are not much better than t1 but its fun. ---------------------------------- Fighting for Minmatar o7 Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

A DCU works very well on aeon/nyx. They benefit armour more than shield and those two actually have the slots to spare. Wyvern doesn't as it needs all its lows for cap.

I personally would be hindered more than helped by officer mods on my carrier - no way I'd be as frisky knowing I had that much more to loose. Better then to just buy another one like the guy up here said.

tbh wyvern isnt a solo ship and it relies a lot on other ships: support, BS and other carriers. In any serious battle it would not matter how much can you boost and it doesnt matter how much cap you have, because you will be remote repped and remote cap boosted. And then this little help in terms of t2 DCU is very useful. Because it gives you around 1 million extra HP.

well you should probably start a thread on it every 2 weeks, hijack every carrier thread about it, make a sig about it, and peen about it in several channels just to be sure
oh wait....

Most of this HPs are hull. Wouldn't it be better to strengthen "the tank"? For instance an EANM on armor tanks and because shield tanks are short in low's a shield hardener for shield tanks? Would bring much more HPs - for your tank.
Maybe not such much HPs overall but remote repped HPs are not the hull ones ^^

Show me the last thread i 'hijacked' about it, i just hand out information when people ask for it. Ships & mods is often about comparisons as you know. The sig was made for me by a friend, so that kite doesn't fly either, and what channels are you talking about exactly?

Not so on an armour tank, eanm are stacking nerfed where damage controls are not, so that damage control is a lot more effective than a 4th eanm (haven't done calcs for if you use officer/deadspace but dont really care considering it will be around 33% effective and thus need to be like 45% res bonus to outdo it)

Well far be it from me for challenging the bar in serving drinks, but I can get a Wyvern to 8.8 million EHP while having a 316 second cap recharge, and operating 3 Cap Shield Transporters plus 3 officer smarts.
I didnt put any boosters on it though, which tbh probably wont save you like a couple of chimera wingmen would. And I didnt need CCC rigs...cap recharge was already fine.

Well, but if I have 4 lows free for that wouldn't it be better to use 2-3 specific membranes and 1-2 EANM on top? I also did't the math right now *g but that suitcase seems wrong imo. Especially in for shield tank...

Carrier 5, fighters 5. I want one
And someone made the point a while back that: a DCU adds effective HP's, which can allow you to live long enough for a remote rep in a lag situation if your modules lag out. I done a wyvern setup a while back, but id need about 4bil minimum for fitting, but it perma ran about 25k of DPS tank against 100% it's lowest resist - I'll stick to my half-faction chimera for the moment.
Anyone else think neuts should come under the "EW Immunity"? Since heavy dictors, motherships have been dropping like fly's due to blobs all fitting a heavy neut. 150 heavy neuts? boom, headshot...
EDIT*
Actually... they might already, i havent fought a supercap in about 8 months -------

I'll never have a Wyvern, but this is probably what I'd try first:
Mix of 3 Chelms's, Draclira's, or Luther Veron's Large EMP SBs. and 3 Capital Shield Transporters. 4x Estamel's Invulnerability Fields, 4x Chelm's Cap Rechargers 3x Makur's Modified Power Diagnostic System (those are the ones that add the most shield hp of all officer PDUs) 1x DCU II
3x Core Defense Field Extender II
I'll happily admit I have never set foot in a carrier of any type, and never will...they are totally not my style (see my sig lol), but that fit seems to have the things people are always saying a good capital needs, strong cap regen, and a good tank.

I'm pretty sure its better now to just have eanm instead of even specific hardeners and thats not taking cap usage into account either, just pure res. |

I'm sorry but that is a pointless fit. Very impractical and tremendously expensive. (well over 100bil just for the mods) |

Ok, since we're eft'ing now - i done a faction setup on eft based on the chimera setup i use (ammended thanks to sok :p )
3.5mil effective HP, 10k dps tank.
that means the 5mil effective HP difference would disseapear after 5,000,000 / 10,000 = 500 seconds. So unless your killed in under 10 minutes, eg ganked, then active is more beneficial.
I mean, on paper, that seems fine. Cept its a stupid idea, cause the same fleet that could be tanked actively will kill the passive setup, just more slowly. Make any sense? -------
