Lofty scam is banned, because it offers little risk for plenty of reward. The person running it needs merely a ship that will exploit the weaknesses of the ship, and an alt in their own corp to wardec. The mission runner has no defense from the surprise attack.
Suicide ganking exhumers and mission runners is rendered illogical. Now that it's impossible to make anything resembling profit from doing ganks on miners and mission runners (unless they have some idiotically unneccessary expensive deadspace/officer fit, or enjoy mining with Estemel hardeners) It used to offer little risk besides losing your ship, for a little bit of reward (or more reward, if you find idiotically overspending missioners) or most of the time, a little loss on miners depending what dropped.
Now lets look at scamming. The only risk you run is people spreading around your name. And if you do it right, people don't even realize they've been scammed for a while. Resulting in much reward for you and many tears from the scammed, who then go off to sully your name, only to find out you were an alt, and already recycled that char for another one. Resulting in no real risk, for plenty of reward.
So lets go CCP, lets take out scamming, it's just as bad as lofty and suicide ganks. I suck at forums |

This thread needed to be made by a throwaway alt in a newb corp. The nullsec alliance tag identified the post as a troll post before the end of the first paragraph.
It was on the right track though in terms of content. 5/10 for delivery.

No. The lofty "scam" and suicide ganking are just game mechanics which are being used in interesting ways.
Scams are a part of the game. You know there will always be a risk by giving somebody your stuff.

Scamming either takes alot of effort, or someone very stupid/new to fall for it. If there is a third case and it's an exploit of GAME mechanics, rather than social engineering, CCP have in the past 'fixed' it.
Alot of this also has to do with GM time, they can provide tools ingame to help people keep themselves safer from scams, but they certainly aren't going to have a GM investigate every situation that may or may not have been a scam. It's players own responsibility to keep themselves safe from scams that don't involve real money (CCP do police char scams / GTC scams etc). Although again in that area they put in tools that mean they shouldn't have to.
The game also rewards teamwork, and with that comes risk in trusting people, but also great reward.

Regarding the lofty, you know there always is a risk inviting someone to your gank. Oh wait, not anymore, people complained too much.

Which kind of pasta are you making?
Also unless you boil all the water away (leaving only the salt) you'll end up with salty pasta. I suck at forums |

Stock Response:
*Sec Status Hit: Only occurs to one person even if a dozen are involved in the gank. Increasing this by a maximum of 10% (+5 sec stat vs. -5 set stat) will affect solo gankers a little, but not very much.
*Improved CONCORD response time: Will force players, in some instances, to upgrade to a larger ship, bring a friend, or fit a few T2 modules (cheaper than going from BC to BS)
*Sec Status Hit Based on System Security: Ganking becomes easier to sustain in lower sec systems and harder in higher-sec systems.
*No Insurance payout: Using a BC to suicide gank someone will now cost you $20 million ISK, not $5 million ISK. This will hurt your ability to profit from low-value targets, and such as someone who carries 50 million ISK of goods in a T1 hauler. It will also raise the bar for the minimum value of freighters to about 1.8 billion ISK (guessing) to be worthy of a suicide gank. However, it won't affect those who do things like carry blueprints in shuttles or officer modules in...well, anything. Profit will still be huge even after insurance payouts. This will also have no effect on suicide ganking mission runners as those worth ganking (officer/deadspace/faction fit) will still be very profitable. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

I have a suggestion.
When your ship is taking fire, please let a dialog box pop up with the message "This player is causing you harm, do you want to petition him?" with a yes/no answer.
That will show them.

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 06/08/2008 16:44:54 I would have prefered teh lofty scam to work in reverse. I.E People you gang with can shoot first and see wartargets in local.
So noob miner can hire roaming "A-TEAM" style mercs to join their gang and fight their wartargets. However, the way CCP implemented wardecs transfer in gangs was so bad, that you could only scam with it. If you ever fire the first shot, you got concorded thus defeating any non-scam use for it.
I would have prefered them to fix it insted of removing it.
As for suicide ganking, there needs to be risk for the ganker which simply does not exist. Risk should be on both sides of the equasion. --

Suicide-ganking mission-runners was barely profitable for half a bil fits usually, but almost nobody got ganked for less than 1-1.5 bil ; freighters WERE already relatively safe with barely over 1.5 bil in the cargo. The removal of insurance will drive those numbers up by a factor of at least 3, maybe even 5... let's say 4 on average. So, now, you have 4 bil mission fits as a general rule for bare minimum gankage, and freighters with at least 6 bil ISK in cargo.
Somehow, I think this is a bit overkill.

Unless you want to kill someone to cause them loss rather than just for the profit? Highsec ganking wasn't ever supposed to be a serious isk making career option. Now you can do it to **** someone off, or vs a high value target with some planning or persistance. Or someone carrying far too much in a ship far to fragile.
People in haulers will still die with valuable cargos, and people will still make money from it, just with more risk attached.

How about we declare fitting nanos "griefing" or "scamming" and then legalize/encourage it ...
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

No. Welcome to the only thing that makes the game even somewhat realistic. If it were me, shoot, I'd get rid of insurance, clones, warp to 0, bookmarks, BPOs, and Concord. If such a "hard core" server existed, I'd only play there.
No more hand-holding the newbies. No turning EVE into DOAC or WoW in space.
