Without wanting to sound too emo :) .... what music would you pick for the final journey? For myself, it would be the second half of 'Alchemy of the Heart' by Tangerine Dream (a relief for the congregation as would have been all 23 minutes of 'Supper's Ready' by Genesis) -------------------------------------------------- 'people will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it.' |

Catching that tune by chance one fateful night on the radio, was what hopelessly corrupted my young self into a lifetime obsession with metal.
As for the OP, funerals are only for those who plan to die some day. Myself, I'm an immortal fungus.

I have thought of this quite a few times, but I have not come to a conclusion at this point. Some that are in the running follow.
If I died soon My Last Serenade - Killswitch Engage would have to hand out lyrics and ear plugs.
- If I die from old age I thinkOver the Hills and Far Away would be nice.

My top 5.
1. Sgt. MacKenzie - We Were Soldiers (awesome song, +1 for the bagpipes imo)
2. Joy Division - Atmosphere (but with better audio quality)
3. Mercy Me - I can only Imagine (I almost get teared up sometimes... almost )
4. Eric Whitacre - Sleep (seemed appropriate)
5. Blind Melon - No Rain ( I would probably substitute this song for another, but nothing came to mind). ---------------------------------------------

Nothing. Just cremate the carcass and bury it in an unmarked place. No ceremonies, no memorabilia, no waste of space or time or resources. Just a simple ceasing to exist. Death is overrated.

In that case, a shattered grave plate with my conserved arm sticking out, extending the middle finger to the world might be appropriate. Grave stone should read: "**** you! **** all of you!"

'Hell's Bells' was the B-side of the first single I bought ('Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution')
And adding 'Sleeping on The Roof' by The Flaming Lips to my list....and a tombstone bearing the legend 'FFS'
(and of course just because it's my funeral doesn't mean it's my body in the box ) -------------------------------------------------- 'people will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it.' |

Edited by: Mangala Solaris on 08/08/2008 18:02:29 Edited by: Mangala Solaris on 08/08/2008 18:01:42 Prior to my coffin arriving at the cathedral (or crematoria - am yet to decide) - the sound is better in most cathedrals over churches - this will be playing: Vide Cor Meum and my coffin will enter at about 1.20 into it, then move up the aisle during the rest of the piece.
In the background during the ceremony, I'm settling for the following two pieces:
Nimrod
Agnus Dei
Both keep a nice solemn feel going throughout the service, with pauses for reflection, prayer etc coming during the highpoints of both tracks. And both sound awesome in a cathedral setting.
The sole hymn will be Jerusalem.
The ceremony will be closed with the coffin heading into the crematoria, or out to go to the cemetary. If the former, then Cavalleria Rusticana will play. If the latter, then Highland Cathedral (I love this Pipe piece) will play.
Yes, I've planned this a little too much :D -------
