True that.
Some things I have picked up from the TV in the last 2 days.
- It is the year of the Rat in China - Never stick your chopsticks into your food in China. That is similar to incense sticks used for funerals and frowned upon. - Wearing a green hat means your significant other is cheating on you. - Giving a clock or a watch as a gift can symbolize that time is running out...in life
Those are the one I can remember at this point.

The music is beautiful as well, I might have to explore Chinese music a bit more thanks to this.

Yeah, but even the BBC only gave about 5 minutes to the start of this war, which could prove very destructive for Georgia, and about 20 minutes to the Olympics on the 30 minute 12 o'clock news.
Strategic timing, methinks? No politicians will react to it today for fear of drawing away from the Olympics.

I think the weak opening was a lot better they had a lot more of their history in it but then again if your China you don't want to talk about modern history to much.
btw the cost is estimated at 40 billion that is about half of their annual military budget and about 1/10 of the American annual military budget lol.

NEWS JUST IN: The organisers of the London 2012 Olympics have each shot themselves after viewing this ceremony through sheer futility.
But seriously. WTF are London going to do now? That stadium by itself is bigger than Stratford.
I go through stratford most days on the 25 bus. Know what's there? Chavs. -omg-

That was certainly impressive. But then again, I didn't expect anything less, this is still china we're talking about.
But yeah, London 2012 is not going to beat this, not in a million years. But why even try, make it the best you can, there's no rule you need to beat the previous Olympics.

Ok so before this i found the only good thing to be the very attractive swimming venue. The birds nest really redeemed itself at night with the red lighting and fireworks. But i still think its fairly ugly under slandered day light.
The scroll was very clever. The plasma (thats what the commentators said it was) screen around the roof was very nice. As for the choreography. It was more a statement on china's treatment of its population than something inspiring. The drummers are all part of Chinas army. And thus it was nothing more than a Drill. I came to think of it a being like watching a army drill on dance dance revolution.
The lighting of the main Flame was tacky and frankly could of used the arenas unique architecture much more effectively. (High wires are hardly bank breakers). They used Scottish bagpipes and probably the most recognized Scottish bagpipe music for nearly 1/3 of the entire event.
IMO i think that it stuck to what china is good at (manipulation of its population). I feel it could of been a lot better if they had made the same effort in a technical approach without using so many people. They say that this is about China saying they are here, a world player as such. Worthy of being considered a respectable member of modern society. When intact this showed nothing more than what a non democratic state can do with 1.3 billion people to order around. And o how well they ordered them.
