I have a 19" monitor now, capable of max. 1280x1024 resolution. I am planning on buying a 22" widescreen monitor, but I would like some information and advice on what monitors and resolutions that you think work well with the EVE interface.
For starters, does EVE run on widescreen resolutions and how about font size? Thanks for any answers and tips. |

Edited by: Tharukan Desm''ar on 10/08/2008 18:36:54 Well it works great on 1600x1200 using a 24" monitor. Fonts look fine and wide screens alright but I prefer it being normal. Thats using a hyundai 24" monitor. But the hassle of their customer service actually replacing damaged on arrival items like mine was. Is a pain in the behind. Just to warn you.

All at normal size 10 for the fonts. The 13" only really works for in-station stuff — outside, the windows I want to have open won't fit.

I might change it later this year to be a dual 24" or dual 30" screen on a single PC.

52" Samsung DLP in windowed mode expanded out as far as possible 1280x768 resilution.
EvE for some reason dosent like large widescreens all that much and defaults to 800x600 when not in windowed mode.

Eve will support any resolution your graphics card and monitor can run with the 10 point font being quite readable on the larger screens.(24" and up) Tbh a widescreen is a must have for eve so you can have the room to arrange all your windows and still have a decent space view. I'd love the option of moving the ship ui all the way to the left so I can span my two 42" HDLCDs into one desktop and run one fullscreen eve on both. However with the current ship ui it just gets cut in half using dual screens. :-( Oh yeah 1920x1080 is just lurvly on a big screen especially if you can use aa and af. :-D

The font is pretty small. I wish they'd make the font/UI scalable like others have said.

I normally play EVE on a 19" CRT @ 1920x1440, and occasionally on my laptop (15.4" @ 1440x900). Both work great.

I'd love to get one of those Matrox triple head thingys and buy another panel but alas they only support up to 3x 1650x1050 so I can't use it. Hopefully 1920x1080 will get supported eventually.

Acer AL2623W (26") @ 1920x1200...
Bought it like a year ago for too much... if I had to choose again with the same money I would go for 2x Samsung T240 (24") @ 1920x1200 each.
The Samsung T240 is beatifull monitor I would recommend it to everyone.

This is a great topic to speak of a matter that is on my mind lately that these TFT screens overwhelm the shop's shelves combined with the anavailability of CRT screen types.
I had a talk with a firnd of mine on eve once and he was always complaing of his frames droping too low in certain situations. I had a P4 2.6 at the time 2GB ram , 6600GT etc... While he had a Core 2 Duo 2400Mhz with 8800GTX etc... And i mean i had like 28-34 frames in all cases apart the great blobs where i had them drop around 14 while he had around 25-30 and in the blobes he was roping to 5-10 !!!
In the end i realised what was the problem. He was FORCED to play at a very high resolution due to his TFT screen while i was able to change at will since i have a CRT 17'' Flat Monitor and i play at 1024x768
The TFTs also have problems in some games that don't support lower resolutions than their optimal and also they force you to set ultra high resolution in games that you could do with a lower resolution + antialising.
So looks to me that all thses TFTs are out not to offer us better visual experience but to force us use certain resolutions so that we have to buy more and more powerful computers where we could do very well with a cheaper computer and a CRT.
Anyway that my 2 cent.
I play at 1024x768 and i am very with pleased everything set to max with the new graphic client. |

No, they don't force you to play at any given resolution — it just looks better if you use the optimal, or one that is evenly and easily scaled down from that resolution.

Well i have been told that the TFTs mention what is their best resolution and also mention a couple of others that work acceptably. But so far i have found no screen that would work well at 1024x758 that is the most difused resolution. Do you know any model that works fine at 1024x768? Cause flexibility is a necessity for me. |
