Eve will run at whatever your reported available resolutions are... so, if you have a 30" capable of running at 2560x1600, Eve will run. The only caveat is your video card will need to support your monitors resolution (Eve won't care, though).
I used to have a 22" running at 1680x1050. Everything looked great for icons etc. There wasn't *quite* enough space to have all my usual windows open without excessively obscuring my ship/pov, though it was a huge step up from my old 17" monitor (lol).
I now use a 24" running at 1920x1200 as my primary monitor. It has just enough space for for everything, though I'm considering a 27/30" to get a bit more real estate.
Frankly, your available space will get eaten up no matter what size you run Eve at. However, I do think 1680 was a 'good' size for having a reasonable number of windows open without encroaching on my in-space view. The jump from 1280 to 1680 is big...
I'd still recommend a 24" running at 1920, though. They're not much more than a 22" these days and you'll enjoy other uses (like movies and desktop space) as well.

Anyway that my 2 cent.
I play at 1024x768 and i am very with pleased everything set to max with the new graphic client.
You can barely see anything at that res. Chat windows and overview take up most the screen. It's horrible. I'd hate to have to go back to that

hey guys,
Im currently on a dell 17 in lcd that i got for christmas with my computer. I like eve a lot, and currently i run it at 1024 x 768
I always run outa room,a nd often have the chat windows minimized.
Right now Im looking for something cheap, but something that will last me a long time,
I talked with a corp mate and he said that the dells are really good, and i couldnt argue cause thats my current monitor too.
So this is the monitor that im looking at getting, but is it worth the money?
thanks guys, Josh -----

The 27" will still only do 1920x1200, you need 30" for more pixels.

Haven't read the thread yet, so I apologize if this has been addressed. I will be buying a new laptop (yes, you read it correctly--I'll get the best graphics I can, probably a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS).
Should I pay a little extra for a 1680 x 1050, or stick with a 1440 x 900? Will it make a huge difference?

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 11/08/2008 14:13:55 I currently play at 1600x1200 on a 21" CRT, as I am playing off my lapatop and it can't do higher than 60Hz at higher resolutions (ahh flickervision ahh). When I get my new desktop set up it will be back to 1920x1440, so I will once again be able to see between the windows I have open. -

Personally, I would go for a smaller model (assuming you could get one with the same oomph) and go for a decent, high-res external monitor instead…

Pretty sure that your TV is 1920x1090. What you said is basically 16:10 which is what standard computer LCDs run at. I like pie. |

It would be nice if they could render the 3-D at a lower res and upscale it to UI res, so you could have the UI at the best possible res without necessarily stressing your system. -

Originally by: Binarii For starters, does EVE run on widescreen resolutions and how about font size? Thanks for any answers and tips.
I have 3x19" running at 3840*1024. Fonts are fine. The problem with super-wide resolutions is that the directX lens modelling is flawed and causes extreme distortion at the periphery. This does not make EVE unplayable, it just looks daft - like you're viewing the world through a fisheye lens. It can be mitigated somewhat by arranging your overview and chat windows around the edges to obscure the distortion. I presume MAC and Linux builds also have the same issue as my understanding is that they run on emulators rather than being native builds.
Naturally microsoft deny there is any problem with their fine system and claim that it's a hardware limitation. A claim easily disproved by playing any OpenGL game at the same resolution free from any distortion. The guy's at Redmond have form on this. When SVGA first became available one had to reboot windows to change screen resolution. Microsoft claimed it was a hardware limitation in comtemptuous disregard of those of us running Linux on the same system flipping between resolutions at a reboot-free touch of the keyboard.
So yes, EVE can be played at high-resolutions but the limitations of microsoft's poor implementation makes it of dubious worth. You should be ok with any standard wide-screen format however since one presumes that microsoft has actually bothered to test those.

I have a Westinghouse 24" 1920x1200 and it looks great except for one tiny little thing. The outer edges of the viewing area has a fishbowl effect and it sort of stretches out. I believe this is because of the wide screen resolution. Other than that it looks great, I have everything maxed out and it definitely makes Eve a richer/deeper experience. Funny thing is I'm not running a killer system. I have a E2180 Overclocked to 2.9Ghz and a 8800GT, with 4GB Ram. In rare worst case scenarios I hit low 30's in the FPS. But in general on the average I'm at the 60FPS limit since I turned interval one on(It's equivalent to V-Sync, helped cut out the choppyness) Interface wise everything works and looks awesome. Font's and everything look sharp and nice too. I personally would recommend a monitor that can do 1920x1200 since that puts you in the 1080p area in case you want to watch real HD video. Then again with Blue-ray drives too high as well as the actual videos, just let your wallet decide.
