Edited by: silent Serena on 11/08/2008 11:23:02 Hello fellow pilots.
My name is Serena, I wish to explore low securety systems using t1 frigates and perhaps find a home or system where I can grow and nurture my skills as a pilot. Are there any areas (?) or systems I should avoid to secure my survival? Does anyone have any good tips on how make it on youre own? I plan to post my experiences in this post, perhaps even losses and kills if I get any.
Edit: Oh and this downtime thing, is that every day?

If you are exploring low-sec as a new character, it is better to buy a shuttle as you will warp away from anything that could kill you before they can lock you (unless you got to nullsec, and hit a warp bubble).
If you wish to stay in lowsec, you need to join a corp. You will struggle to build an existance from scratch in lowsec.

I'm a fan of the Slasher for lo-sec; it's incredibly fast, and with a nano in the low, it warps pretty much as fast as a shuttle. Plus it has some cargo space - fit a salvager in a high slot and look for abandoned wrecks.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Dont listen to this guy, both his points are wrong. Small fast frigate with MWD is better than a shuttle and it is easier to live in low sec with a corp but not essential, most of low sec is empty anyway.

That was actually my plan, to loot other peoples wrecks. I recieved a Hansom isk donation from a friend. So I can afford a Kestrel and some guns. I have plaid a trial account earlier. So im not all green. But with the Kestrel I can shoot Npc pilots down and thereby collect a bounty increasing my wealth!
Wish me good luck, after what I understood Eve will be online in 30 minuts again. If you see me, dont kill me :)

Edited by: Babel on 11/08/2008 12:04:44 If lo-sec looting/salvaging is your thing - head to one of the Faction Warfare areas. Lots of stuff usually to find and FW pilots are somewhat less likely to attack you at gates/stations etc as 1. they are mainly after war-targets and 2. more chance they will be flying something that cannot tank sentry guns if flagged ... last point kinda irrelevant tho if you are gonna take loot from someone's wreck in front of their face :P
Edit: Try following round the red blob of 'ships destroyed last hour' on your map :) -------

Frigates in general are a pretty good way to survive low-sec for two reasons:
1) It's just a t1 frigate. Why bother to shoot it for any other reason than out of spite? 2) A frigate is a lot harder to catch than most people like to think. They go from cloak to warp in a second, and it takes serious pirates to catch you.
The map is your friend:
1) Check the numbers of recent pod and ship kills, and avoid the areas. 2) Check the population counts in the systems, and avoid crowded areas. 3) Try to avoid passing through bottleneck systems between low and high sec. If there is a longer, but less travelled route - it's probably much much safer. The route the autopilot recommends is most likely to be camped.
Just a few tips and tricks.

Definitely. I see the Slasher as a souped-up shuttle -- very fast, very cheap, much more storage than a shuttle, and just fun to fly as a superfast throw-away duck-and-dodge boat.
To the OP: it's also a fun (and useful) thing to get a ship like this set up to run, and fly around and develop some skills at ducking and dodging. Learning these survival skills will pay big dividends in learning to live well in low sec.

Good luck to you Serena. I have much the same plan as you. Think I might try and take a rifter through. Mining = boring, running lvl 3 mish = dull. I'm going to try salvaging, ratting, exploration in the arse end of nowhere :) I'll be sure to wave if I see any soloists on my way through!
