Edited by: Securitas Protector on 12/08/2008 05:00:11 This may or may not go anywhere, but I thought I might make a list of authenticated events AND a list of known "bad events." An authenticated event is one that is NOT a scam or extortion scheme. Obviously, I cannot promise that the list is free of scams, but there can be no scamming UP TO THAT POINT. I will enter in lotteries or events on occasion to authenticate and check them. If you would like your event to be put on the watch list, simply post here. "Code Yellow" events are those who are as of yet not been determined as "bad" or "untrustworthy," but are on a danger list.
Authenticated Events:
Code Yellow Events: lord millar's events
Code Red Events:

for what its worth, although i have ceased operating on a regular basis, I'd love to be included on this scheme under the event Ulcha Lotto's
as a side note perhaps this little idea of yours could become its own 'entity' and have a webpage that people can reference, and those that are trusted can have some form of digital signature from the scheme.
Oh, and on a complete side note... include Chribba as 'trusted'!!
best of luck getting people to use this! its a great idea.

How is this list supposed to actually help anyone, and not just promote laziness? What methods and tools do you have to determine whether something is legit or not? What can you do that someone who takes the two minutes to search the post history in this forum can't do themselves? I don't mean to be a jerk, this a is a serious, though critical, question to this idea. The same kind of thing has been talked about by the Market community a lot, and even with a lot of auditing tools and even reputation, there is only so much that can be done to prove the legitimacy of an operation.

Looking away from the obvious issues enlightened above, I'd have to say that a person's participation in an event would mostly still boil down to the first rule of eve: Never use what you can't lose. I don't believe anyone throws their entire life savings into a lottery only to find out it was a scam.
Of course I don't mean to discourage you, I only want to point it out. This concept may turn out to be quite useful!

These are all quite valid points, but, while I can't guarantee that an event is legit, I will do my best to try. Once again, just another measure of safety, however small, in an unsafe universe.

Hey Sec. I know that sometimes my lottos may compete with yours and Sat's() but I'd appreciate it if you'd put me on the list.

Of course, Antarr. You have run at least 5 lotteries and handled hundreds of millions of isk. At least at this point, you are no scammer.

Thank you for adding me to the list, I hope to gain authenticated as soon as I can. and to all the nay-sayer's.. yes this scheme cant ABSOLUTELY remove the thought of "is this a scam" but it can go some way to helping legitimate event holders have the privilege of being on a monitored list, and be at the 'good end' of said list.
IF an event holder signs up... scams a dozen people and then sits back smiling, I'm sure their 'event' or character though a small amount of communications, would be added to the negative listing so that future possible participants can see they've done wrong and steer clear of them.

That's fair enough. I just see the majority of people being lazy to start with, they don't want to have to put effort into something that isn't fun, like protecting their ass when it comes to spending money on events (which is why many simply avoid this forum). And I dislike any tool that doesn't really protect anyone, but only aids their laziness (look at the list instead of researching a person), especially because the one putting in the work is going to be the one burned when someone on his "Legit" list turns out bad. Blame flies around a lot, and it's probably just going to hit you.
I like the position this idea is coming from, I'm simply checking to see if this has been thought through and the realities of the situation are understood. If so, then I really have no complaints. These are but friendly words of caution =)

Ok, I agree with some way of verifying "legitamcy". How can I *PROVE* to anyone that the POS Fuels in my Lotto are really in NIKH as I claim, and furthermore, that they will be contracted to the winner as promised immediately after DT on 1 September?
I almost wonder if a "Third Party Holding Service" could be used...........
But then, how do we know THEY can be trusted.........
It is what it is, I suppose. A Gamble.
Just my n00b 2 cents worth.

yep, this aint gonna work. Too many people aint willing to put in the effort and stick around to build up trust or a player base therefore you wont get the greens you want. Until ccp get behind player organised events in some way (the ability to turn off a concord response for pvp tournaments for eg and an "open" account for lottos) nothing is gonna change.
Lottos are dead, BIG have been going for a long time now, have the support and base of a large audience and should be left to them, come up with something fresh.
I have run a few new attempts at different things, and seen some great ideas come and go without support, one great idea i saw was someone trying the deal or no deal thing, was a great idea but didnt get a huge response to start with so gave up. My last game, got a huge amount of support (received over 100 mails and convo's in game) but when it come down to actually taking part was a non-starter.
hopefully the next event i'm labelling "pod mayhem" will go. yet again it will be free to enter (as always) but lets see what happens.

I would like to point out that his idea is not simply doing research that anyone can do.
He stated in the post that he would periodically enter an event and then he would know if its legit or not.
Of course as he said there is no way to know 100% but its a good start.

Hi.
Could you please add details about the channel I run called Helpmymission.
Its not as such an event, but we do a Lottery for the channel each Wednesday. It's totally non profit making, so all the isk goes to the 3 winners (1st gets 70%, 2nd gets 20% and 3rd gets 10%).
We also do a Battleship Prize each month for the person who introduces the most people to the channel.
It's a totally genuine place, for genuine help on missions, a bit of fun in the lottery and for the BS prize, so please feel free to check it out.
I'd appreciate it if you would add us to your list, as reputation is extremely important for this sort of thing.
Good luck with your list, I think it's a good idea m8
