I hope that while the forums are being rejuggled around that the block on all trial accounts that kept them confined to Eve New Citzen Q&A and Known Issuse and Workarounds is maintained.
I would hate for this forum revamp to open up all the channels to isk selling spammers again. It had become so "peaceful" without them. --

Can we get an answer to this? Is this just CCP's way of letting us know the awesome alliance tournament has been quietly shelved?

So does this announcement officially spell the death of the EVE Alliance tournament? and further EVE-TV productions? Since the usualy bi-annual date has already been passed is it really dead now?
Please someone tell us, those of us who are fans of watching the tourney are probably most curious, esp now that we have no forum to ask (not that anyone was paying attention anyways). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Eternal Swordsman

Changing categories around is so web 1.0. I suggest that CCP replace the categories with tags. When posting a new thread, tags that apply to the thread would be selected by the author. Old threads could be marked with a tag for the forum they were posted in, and then forum mods could go back and start adding tags to older posts.
CCP should start us out with a pre-made list of tags, including perhaps: api, dataexport, csm, sisi, wts, wtb, wtt, rl, shipfit, s&i, starbase, mission, and so on. We would be able to add tags as appropriate, and (at least as I envision it) forum mods would clean up / merge similar tags (ie, singular/plural tags, typos, or misused tags) to keep things organized. I think this would lead to a much, much higher signal to noise ratio, it'd be much easier to find what you want, and much easier to ignore what you don't care about.
In the meantime, please don't nerf the tech lab.

How about a search function that's actually useful?
Maybe with definable filters like:
* Posts within last day, last week, last month, last year. * Search thread titles or titles & content * Search posts by author * Sort results by author, recency of posting, relevance. ________________ Q. How do you clear a system of 400 Northern Monkeys? A. Remind them its not cyno jammed. |

Crime & Punishment Warn others of the latest scam, hire a mercenary to seek revenge or brag about your kills. This is the place to discuss the criminal elements of EVE.
Whoever wrote that probably isn't very active on the C&P forums. C&P is made up almost entirely of pirates, criminals, scammers and warriors. There's some anti-piracy and anti-scam but that's a very small portion of it. It's written from a "carebear" perspective and puts too much emphasis on the punishment side.
It needs to be more true to its community and start on the Crime side with a little bit of punishment. Carebear newbies are going to walk in, whine, and then get flamed to hell. The description should be more direct about it. Maybe something like
Crime & Punishment Piracy, scams, mercenaries, and more. Carebears beware; C&P invokes the dark side of EVE's nature
Seriously.
How about this one Duban: "Crime & Punishment: You will never find a more wretched hive of s****and villainy."
Win.

Bad Bad Bad decision on CCPs part. API is GROWING and needs the support of these forums to continue. If you start pushing API and tech related threads that are, you know, useful, into other forums they will be swamped by the general trash that exists everywhere else. Combine that with the uselessness of the search feature and it makes everyone's lives harder. Keep the forum, put it at the bottom or the tech area, and support 3rd party endeavors.
QFT on the QFT. This really, really needs reconsidering. Archives of techlab discussions are invaluable to 3rd party developers and artists, amongst other parties. Pushing 3rd party devs to a 3rd party forum is hardly going to breed discussion between CCP and 3rd party devs- a rift that appears to be growing rapidly, not shrinking.
QFT on the QFT on the QFT
Techlab is the most useful forum section there is. As others have stated, it's the de facto resource for API tool development and other stuff relating to 3rd party eve related applications.
Of all the people playing this game, how many actually develop tools? More than you think or they will admit to. How many of those silent developers have used the information to be found in Techlab? I would bet almost all of them. By the looks of things I would almost start assuming CCP does no longer care much for the API, the people that use the API to enhance gameplay for a whole load of other players or for the players that use these tools on a daily basis. Not very logical to remove the source of almost all API development now is it? Unless of course that's secretly your plan?
Please reconsider nixing Techlab. Don't just go by post count. It's only logical that a section such as Techlab does not have the post count that for instance General Discussion has.
Or in other words, nix Techlab and the puppy gets it

OK, my request for if you're cleaning this up. Just my own little pet peeve:
"EVE Information Center * EVE Information Portal All the latest news, announcements and archives from the EVE Online development team. This forum is community reply only; players may not create new threads."
I check here daily for what's-what with the going on's of Eve from a company stand point of announcements vital to game play. Nothing against CCP Abraxas, but, I don't feel that his "New Chronicle:" series, or ANY Dev created fiction, belongs here. Move it to "EVE Fiction".
Sorry, but, just because it's Dev started or Dev related does NOT mean it should automatically go into the Information Portal. Hell, give them their own sub-section of Fiction, but please, leave important information in the Information Center, and move the fluff somewhere else, M'Kay?

Something to consider in regards to the Alliance Tournament. Some things to consider.
-EveTV could just not be involved anymore which has prompted a change, yes they could have just removed the EveTV part, but that could be one of the following: (i)It may be a while before it happens again, so there's no need for the forum. (ii)CCP may implement it when required. (One less thing to moderate, in-between times.)
-EveTV may still be involved and the same reasons above for the changes.
I think it'd take something major to happen for CCP to ditch the Alliance Tournaments, I don't see it happening - it's one of the major selling points at the end of the day. It may just mean there'll be no video coverage. (Certainly don't want a repeat of the rage-fits last tournament with a large amount of people getting buffered and frozen, despite the previous successful ones.)
Chill out a bit and don't take a forum removal to instantly mean the death of a major event, I'm sure things will become clear in time.
As to the rest of the changes, I echo the concerns about the Tech Lab, while not a user myself I'd like to think I'd be able to use something spawned from its existence at some point.
Otherwise, change is good. It may not be right the first time around but atleast there's a pulse.

"In-character"? Does that mean it's now the Intergalactic Corporations, Alliance and Organization Summit forum?
While I fully support the (assumed) motivation behind this it's being done the wrong way around.
- CAOD should be binned. - Corporations and Alliances Summit should be left as is (identical to what the new CAOD would be with the proposed changes)
CAOD the forum and the name has become a synomn for 'joke'. It's derided constantly by the very people who use it, "Hey this is CAOD you're not supposed to serious post" and similar features in almost every thread. It's on the floor, limp and comatose with the same people kicking it repeatedly for years and noone stepping in to help it. No amount of "hey in-character posting only now" rulings, edits, bans, locks can save it. The moderators will only become disillusioned and it will sink back to same old worthless 99% spam out-of-character CAOD we have now.
Put CAOD out of it's misery. Corporations and Alliances Summit is a much better starting point for a clean slate (though it will still require very strict moderation to begin with).
Also no matter which way around it's done please merge the old posts from both into the surviving forum. Both have large amounts of very interesting old posts, arguably more valuable than any other eve-o forum and will always be the most complete, rich historic source on general political history. Losing either would be a tragedy. _

Another clear indication that CCP cannot see the wood for the trees, are losing touch with their own player base and are incapable of making the right decisions to support the game.
It's funny and ironic that after 5-6 years something as ridiculously innocuous as an announcement about reshuffling the forums should make me cancel all my accounts, even the white elephant that is ambulation or the horror that is 0.0 sovereignty warfare couldn't manage to stop me giving you the money for four accounts a month.
However, if this is the best you can do and if this is the level of understanding you have regarding your community, then I bid you a final farewell.
Get some decent forum software and properly moderate your boards before you start worrying about what people should post where.

So where, exactly, are all those folks developing third-party tools supposed to do their thing? It was bad enough in the tech lab, where you competed with threads covering everything from unique hardware issues, tools, the api and db exports, and anything else that was even vaguely tecnological in nature.
How about a nice clean set of third-party-developement-centric forums:
General Development Discussion Api Discussion Database Discussion Projects (help wanted etc.) Releases (one thread per product)
Support your third party dev's. We do it so you don't have to!

Er...
YES to clarifying the descriptions of forum sections.
NO to most of the consolidations and removals put forward. I don't even use most of the sections talked about, but the merges of such disparate sections as 'events' and 'player gatherings and events'...I mean, it's like you don't even know your own forum, when you propose this.
And BIG NO to getting rid of the API tech forum. I don't post there, I don't develop for it, but I do make use of the products that result (and big thank you to everyone who develops tools to use API functionality).
To propose an alternative, I'll repeat the long-standing request: Upgrade your forums to the present, please. Functional and useful search feature, thread tracking, etc., etc., etc. This forum is horribly antiquated and badly in need of love.
