Thanks for your interest, Wes.
Yes, CCP is using freelance writers for mission content. The person to talk to is Scott Holden, who's featuring in the latest EVE newsletter. I will ask him how you can contact him.

Thank you for your fast reply. I have always dreamed of making content for video games and i will be honest i am just learning but i see this as a great direction to take. I truly love your game and would like to add to the rich content that it has. Any further information would be excellent. Thank you and your co-workers for your awesome work. -Wes-

I'd bet there are a whole raft of people who'd jump at the chance to do something like this. Could I suggest maybe making a formal pipeline to let ppl submit missions they'e made?
_______ People like that don't have friends just temporary common interests. |

Or make a competition of some sort... not just for storyline writers, but also for deadspace pocket layout, mission objectives, timings (BTW if you introduced more timing restrictions to mission it you'd make them more interesting, like when you finish some big blob of guard sothing small spawns and you only have XXs before it warps/cloaks/whatever so you have to be fast, or some other silly restriction that would make mission challenging; blobs of rats are just an easy way out and you know it :p), maybe even mixed ewar (after all pirates should not be as xenofobic as empires are), mixed rats (followed by mixed loot and salvage), ....

I might be interested in this. I'm still a beginner as far as more advanced programming goes, but this sounds like a fun and rewarding thing to do. ============= RE: The suicide nerf

A great many Eve players I've met are programmers, or at least enjoy programming as a hobby, including myself. I imagine a formal pipeline would be gladly received and used heavily. |

Last year they recruited mission writers here: http://www.eve-online.com/missionwriter
Do the freelancers actually create the missions or just write them? |

Hi all,
Thanks for the interest in writing for EVE. I'll answer a couple of points/queries made above:
Currently we have two positions in EVE Content: Those who develop the mission texts provided by our freelancers (and who occasionally write their own missions when needed), and those who take those mission texts and actually make the mission deadspace areas (using pre-built "dungeon design" tools and templates -- no coding ability involved).
- We (in Content) are always trying to get new tools and features so that we can complicate and differentiate missions for EVE. We're well aware that missions as they exist currently are pretty repetitive -- but lots of good plans are afoot.
If you're interested in getting a foot in the door, please feel free to go ahead and send me submissions, as noted here. Just ignore the submission deadline and send your material in to evemissions at eve-online dot com.

Edited by: Mikal Drey on 25/08/2008 18:56:43 Scot, many thanks for replying to the thread and i hope you had fun at the show.
Will you or any of the content/mission dev team be going to the fan fest ?
I took a look at the linky you posted and while i have some interesting ideas for missions and mission development I have no real desire for actual storyline writing :/ I was hoping there would be some roundtables at FF for missions which i was gonna throw some ideas at you guys :)
either way Im gonna chuck you a mail from link you posted.
thanks in advance Mikal Drey

Mikal Drey - Scott will be at the fanFest and there also be a PvE roundtable and you're more than welcome to join it.
Grarr Dexx - not unless you work for CCP. It's not a stand-alone tool, but rather part of a complex of internal tools, logging services and information monitoring.
