Skill Point/Game Time Refund on Major Game Mechanics Changes?
Players of EVE-Online invest large amounts of time and money designing characters. Players design these characters based on the "rules" of the game, or game mechanics. As skill points and game time are currently non-refundable, significant changes in game mechanics cause players to waste skill points and money.
Should CCP be responsible for refunding players game time or skill points after making serious changes in game mechanics?
If EVE-Online currently has 200,000 subscribers, they are pulling in 3 million dollars a month, or 36 million dollars a year net. Who should pay for CCP to work out the kinks in the game? The player or the company? As game time refunds are highly unlikely, would it hurt the game or the company to refund skill points?
(Just some thoughts. And NO I don't fly a Vagabond.)

It's funny, but I'd probably pay a few dollars to reallocate my skillpoints. :)

Although I fly minmatar t2 frig/cruiser class ships almost exclusively, beyond the 250SP in Mining 1 I wouldn't know what to reallocate.
The nerfbat swings and everybody gets hit once in a while. Just about everyone should know that I think. So no, no "refund allocations" please. The SP allocation/distribution is part of a char's character and shouldn't be messed with (except for mining 1 which has to go ), no matter how "useful" the player thinks of these SP at a specific time.
If you really need to switch to the next FOTM asap your identification with your char isn't very high anyway, so just sell it and buy a new FOTM char.

This word "net", I do not think it means what you think it means.
CCP has this thing called expenses; those are subtracted from gross revenues to find net profits.
Anyhoo...the last thing this game needs is people cashing out their toons every time there is an adjustment in game mechanics. And I fly Vagabonds and nano-Ishtars and I hate this nerf but no one needs SP refunds or god forbid reallocations so that everyone instantly becomes the new flavor of the month.

Just want to put my two cents in.
NO.
This question comes under the same argument as the following.
-I trained up mining V and I want to go into pvp now, let me re-alocate. -I am an old character, can't I have all the better attributes of new players?
Nerfs happen all the time, some people get hit, others benefit. Over all I really don't think it would be fair.
Im not trying to offend anyone, I just have a very strong opinion on this matter.

No worries. I just want to put a few more SP in learning from some useless skills I trained early on. Also, I'd take every SP that I had and stuff into learning for every new character I started... would make things so much easier.

No.
The only reason people would want to reallocate their SP is if they either have Eve ADHD or constantly try to fly FOTM setups.
If people actually liked what they flew for reasons other than it being the latest pwnmobile, they would have no reason to reallocate.

Gosh... I wonder where those "ppl" come from..
No. Learn to vary your gameplay and your setups and you will never get hit hard by a patch/nerf. There are also very very few skills that only improves ONE type of gameplay and the navigation ones are not that case.
CCP said 6 months ago that they would nerf nanos... If you still "wasted" those 5 mill sp on that, it's your problem.
PS - Beware that CCP has told everyone that they will nerf carriers and motherships too. So I wouldn't spend too much time being specialized in whose either ;)

Oh don't get me wrong... I love smacking. That is one of many reasons why I chose to be a pirate. But one thing is smacking some random guy in local and another thing is to totally off topic troll a guy's post on the forums.
If I think someone has a bad idea, it is completely within my rights to tell that guy that I think his idea is bad, as long as I tell him why and the reason is within the thread's topic. You on the other hand have only gone after trolling my posts, not even bothering to keep yourself to the topic and even making up ridiculous assumptions about my knowledge of this game to try to get me mad and lower myself to you level. That is just sad.

The topic as far as im concerned is your posts, your lack of knowledge about pvp and your attitude to those who do know. The reasons why you post such naive and clueless things about stuff that really does not concern you. Personally i think its pvper envy of the guys in 0.0 and a wish to be recognized for your kills in low sec (sori bud low sec pvp is for noobs to kill noobs).
So with that in mind i was perfectly on topic as far as im concerned.

Personal oppinion explaining why the idea is bad.

Background information on the topic reinforcing the reason why the idea is bad.

If you train the FOTM you gotta keep in mind that it possibly gets nerfed sometime soon. That's not exactly rocket science.
So if you don't want to skill stuff that eventually gets nerfed to uselessness in your perception you just should refrain from starting to skill it in the first place.

http://www.battleclinic.com/eve_online/pk/view/player-Jaketh+Ivanes-kills.html
Battle clinic gets its figures from most of eves KB's so if you have lost or killed ships and they were posted you will have figures on it, although its not 100% accurate it does give a good idea if somebody is a active pvper or not.
And it also shows what ships were in the engagement to give you a good idea on what happened ie: outnumbered or not, along with fittngs.

Id say they look like the MONTHLY stats (kills anyway) from somebody who does small scale pvp although the losses are way to high tbh.

Does spending over a week on the test server building gangs and testing various fits and ships in real time gang vs gang combat and sending the results by eve mail and posting them on the appropriate forums and individuals count?.
I do not remember seeing you in any of those gangs btw.

As I told you on the feedback thread: Your few posts with feedback on the changes were good (a bit biased, but still valid), but as soon as you start trolling the pro-nerf ppl with your ridiculous assumptions and speculations, you're just making a fool of yourself.
And no, you haven't seen me on those gangs. Mostly because I usually do my tests with players that are more then 9 months old and know how to vary their gameplay a tad. You would be surprised with the results you can have then...

Yea i hear you managed to kill a battle cruiser with a few eaf's a couple of af's and a ceptor or two fitted with afterburners.....so this proves the nerf will effect nothing but the thousands of ppl who fly around in 30,000kms battleships breaking the game to get kills.

You have some serious problems not knowing the difference between facts and assumptions. Try sticking to the facts for a change...
Facts: 1. Your char is only 9 months old. 2. You know absolutelly nothing about how I've spent my online time.
I know that kids are encouraged to use their imagination, but you will have to let go of it before you grow up dude.

REAL FACTS
1. My/this alt is 9 months old. 2. Your kills on battle clinic show not only where you killed but what type and how many ships were involved in the engagement, need i really go on as i have yet to find a 0.0 kill although there maybe a couple i suppose.

1. Ehhem... Whatever makes you sleep at night. 2. The only thing worse then ppl yelling for nerfs after trying setups on EFT are the ppl that think they can track someone's PvP history from battleclinic. Any 2003 player would know that fact ;)

Didn't read responses so don't know if it's been said. But:
No. This would just encourage players to follow flavor of the months. The game needs balance and variety, not FOTMs.

I give you 2 simple reasons: 1. Many corps/alliances do not have their KBs linked to battleclinic. 2. Many corps/alliances (such as fscums) have their KB password protected making it impossible for any type of unwanted automatic likage.
It has been a blast talking to you today, but unfortunatelly I'll have to leave the computer now. If you want to post the apology here I'll be back to check it next week, otherwise you can just mail it to me in game. Don't worry, you can use your alt for it if you want to.

Im pretty sure that your asking for a contradiction tbh bud.
In my humble opinion, I think CCP for the most part does a great job in accomplishing both, variety and balance. The game isn't perfect. But that's exactly why these nerfs are sometimes needed.

Extreme fitting options are part of a bigger balance that is part of team fighting.
Say 10 ships all pimped out to the max for their strengths, working together is the very definition of variety and balance.
Screwing over extreme fits in attempts to "balance" those ships on a "individual" level is absurd and will make many ships obsolete as this speed nerf is doing.

I think its finei f racial skills are the only ones allowed to be allocated.
I'd pay $15 - $20 to switch away from matari. Means I can start having fun now as opposed to 3 months from now when the skills are done.

I got suckered by a FW militia trap in my Hurricane and made out better than that guy's average K/D ratio. If they hadn't had 25 light ECM drones on me I'd have gotten a couple more of the bastards too.

FOTM "M" for Month would that be?....you are referring to speed aint ya, like the thing that has been around since the game virtually started and now we have FW the nubs doing it wanna win in their drakes so its getting nerfed into the ground?.

You got to fly the ships. You had fun. You get to keep the experience. Now the film is over and you want money back?
I really dislike devs *creating* FOTM in any game as it is cheap attraction for kiddies and powergamer herd. But the blame in this particular case goes to both sides.

Why are your total kills less than a lot of pvpers monthly kills if your such a knowledgeable, smarter, broadly trained, multi tasking and expert pvper?.

i lol'd at all of this... and 3.5 ratio is actually probably the worste ive seen, and survivability is usually higher in small gang warfare
this has nothing to do with flavour of the month, poeple train stuff that they sometime just decide was a complete waste of time, or not very fun. ad they want to change it. whats the problem with that _________________________________________________________ Only once you've lost everything, are you free to do anything. Whilst I am against the idea personally, if they did allow a one time reallocation of say 5mill sp for $10 I would happilly pay to move the good 3mill sp I have in industry back over to combat with the rest of my training. _______________

I have nothing against this idea in principle, and I don't believe those crying FOTM have a justification for their position. Clearly they are happy with their skill allocation but that does not mean everybody is.
Personally I have many skills trained where I could easily reallocate the SP to more immediate goals. This should be paid for with ISK however and not real $$$. Also it should definately return 100% of the SP otherwise there would be little point.
For people who suffer from compulsive completist playstyles like myself, it would be useful to use during our brief moments of clarity. Angelice Infinity Enterprises
