Ok..Im fairly new to Eve and I belong to a corp that is still getting its legs under them. So I took some time to read the lengthy threads of the war with PA
First of all, I play a good guy online and will always do so. I think it's somewhat sad that a number of "good guys" appear to be at war with each other.
Secondly, despite the massive amount of posting, the original issue was the CDI issue and PA's dealing with CDI. It appears that the other alliances have taken issue that "Swift" justice was not carried out by PA. This led to attacks between the alliances that I am still trying to sort out. One thing that stands out in my mind is this comment by Bobby:
Quote: It isn't moot. Instead of providing proof (which TBH wouldn't have been hard) RKK did nothing for 3 days, then attacked a PA pilot (NOT CDi) in free space and then immediately AFTER posted a war declaration with no explanation (see the first post here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=83511 It seems pretty obvious to the PA that RKK were planning a war on us and they shot at a PA pilot prematurely. Jericho and RKK then went on a PR and propaganda blitz (with some threats and manipulation as well) to bring a pile of more corps into their little war.
From that point on PA wasn't interested in RKK's opinion on anything. Within 15 minutes we investigated the RKK attack on a non-CDi PA pilot, confirmed it, infoed RKK and discovered ALL PA CORPS had been set to -10. We then got word Evolution was on the move towards Venal and within 2 hours an invasion force of RKK and Evo were in our space shooting at us. There has beeen ZERO break in the hostilities since then. PA has not had a moments rest from fighting since the RKK sneak attack. If we had, we'd use it to build more ammo, not try to placate that unreasonable lot.
The CDi issue has been taken off the table because of RKK's actions. The two most interested parties (Jade and RKK) no longer have any influence with the PA and are KOS. In fact, frankly, there are no longer any special limitations regarding travel on any PA member corp. Any place where a corp with -10 to the PA is, PA ships are free to travel. Any corp with -10 to the PA will be fired upon. Any corp who wants to make peace with the PA is invited to do so. Otherwise everybody in the PA fights.
I think the issue from the side opposing PA... Bobby...is that the CDI issue is not moot and that even though this has now devolved into a major shooting war, PA's handling of the CDI issue has been determined to be the main cause.
Of course, that is all forgetten once the shooting starts and numerous players are drawn into the fight. I have an ultimate question for you alliance leaders. What is the price of pride? How many billions must suffer (roleplay here :D ) during this unnecessary war? How hard would it be to draw back, take a deep breath, and do the right thing here?
Unless you all just have a bunch of shiny new toys that you all want to test out, I point out that the price of pride is just destruction.
Anyway...keep up the excellent political climate. You guys make the United Nations look like Mrs. Smiths Kindergarten class. I've never seen anything this complex in any MMORPG ever.
Hehe...for now I will steer clear of the Northern Reaches :)
PS. This is my first post and I'm learning to use the quote function. The Bobby I refer to is the PA spokesman.

Indeed I was comtemplating quitting EVE altogether a month, but for some reason I decided to go shopping for a new corp instead, I ended up in Revolution who is in the war, the game is completely new for me now and I have so much excitement to play again.
Also Sassinak I think it was your advice I took about taking a break for a while and then when you come back you are all ready to go again, it's true.

Incidently, it'd be nice if anyone posting on the whole PA/JF thing used their corp tag. Hard to know who to ignore.

Edited by: slothe on 03/06/2004 21:20:08 Whats even more apparent to me recently is the whole mechanism of politics. We see how politics and alliances / friends / wars work in eve.
We then can watch the news and judge politics in a more objective way. We can see how (in r/l) different interactions work, with "terrorists" "freedom fighters" "alliances"..etc work, based (strangely) on eve mechanics. Strangely fascinating yet frightening at the same time :)

Thanks for the input all.
As I said I'm fairly new. I've been trying a bit of mining and am up to level 2 and almost to level 3 missions. I've now got about 900k in skill points and thought I was on my way.
Then I discovered this forum and all of a sudden, I realize that I'm an insignificant guppy watching a universe full of great white sharks. To be honest, being in Imperial space, I'm liking the relaxing pace of the game and the Company of my corp mates who span the globe.
I didn't realize this game had such rich interaction between the players playing both good and bad. I was thinking of taking my frigate and exploring all the way to 0.0 space. Thank the gods, that I printed that alliance map. Sheesh...I had no idea that it is virtually locked up out there. With my ingnorance, I would have just started warping and would probably have broken a dozen rules or gotten eaten up by Pirates.
Oh well, someday I'll be out there. Fight the good fight folks and have fun

Totally agree with u, since i started playing EVE i dont believe much i hear on the news. Almost eveything posted on the EVE forums is in some way bias.
Very difficult to find out whats really happening here, must be harder reporting on news in RL and EVE spin doctors are amatueurs compare to the RL ones.

I've got to assume it's endemic to MMPORGs (which means I'm guessing, EVE's been my only). Not the role play part of them either, but the ability to gain slowly, yet lose a lot very quickly. That combined with PvP/PvE makes for wacky amounts of tension.
Even with insurance, I could prolly lose my personal EVE fortune and skillpoints in about 2 weeks of consistent bad luck/stupidity. Given that both are a product of months of hard work in-game, that I think makes it harder to say "it's just a game" that a run of Quake that you could just turn off after one team hits the kill/point max for that round. (yes, I'm that old, I think in online terms of the first quake).

One of my favorite things about this game is that, more than any other MMORPG out, we the players really do have the power to shape the world. Most of the other MMO's corral players through static zones, killing that same mob repeatedly to get that next level or that ubah loot. Sure EVE may have some of that but it's entirely optional.
Without the politics and the player interactions that go on in this game daily it wouldn't be half as exciting as it currently is. And shiva will only make it that much better in the long run.
