the demo was good. The planetary bombardment is brilliant as its obviously a clear link between dust console players and eve online pc players- and props go out to ccp for making a great looking game.
however i'm still skeptical on a few things. fps shooters come and go every couple of years- how long before dust gets stagnent? will eve players hiring mercs benefit eve players in anyway...i.e looting other players materials.i.e coolant/ robotics on pi planets? will all of the tanks/ command ships/ weapons/ armor used in dust be supplied on the market purely by eve players??
some of the points above would be really cool- but i believe dust must really really effect eve and vice-versa for the idea to work I'm with Brick on this one- make thouse carebearing b******s squeal.. |

Battleships are the war winners in EVE. While Capital ships (except dreads) can take them down, Battleships can perform a wide array of tasks very well where as Caps are more specialized.
Dreads need to be have their roles completely changed and that's the hard part, there are currently no roles in EVE that a dread could realistically do, that something else couldn't do better. This, people, is an example of a Pre-Crucible argument over Dreadnoughts regurgitating the same crap over and over again.
Maybe people are repeating it because it is at least somewhat true.
Show me evidence of a Dread doing something no other ship class can do. Show me something that sets it apart from other ships. |

The other issue of Dread vs BS for bombardment that has not been mentioned is...
If the planet is in High Sec, Dreads are not available.
I know that a merc campaign in High Sec would never happen though as High Sec is all carebears, so feel free to flame away... |

Dust going stagnant? i have to admit this is an attempt to integrate 2 games with a similar history and with it growing stagnant is possible with any MMO but from I can see it will be a very very very long time before that happens with the amount of interaction between the two and the idea of Eve Corp/Alliances hiring Dust514 mercs to do planetary assaults is an awsome idea bringing in another outlook to the game. Honestly i like the idea of little brother to have around who likes carrying big guns to blow up people |

Have you not ever played a console shooter? Lots of activity, until a new one is released. This gives Dust an effective lifespan on a few months at best, until the players move on to the next Call of Reskin release. |

Thats rather the point behind DUST though - that it breaks that mould through its game design and relationship to EVEs persistent universe.

I think the bombardment effect could use just a bit more oomph, maybe louder, brighter, throwing up dust, to hammer home that you just got nuked from orbit.
Hopefully dreads will get a role in this too, which seems the case in Templar One at least, not to mention most of the trailers. It would seem odd if they did nothing after all the images of a Moros nuking a planet thrown about.. Perhaps they'll be the ones dealing out the massive-kaboom-incinerate-everything strikes like in the future vision trailer. They didn't say the bombardment computer was BS only, did they? |

Strange, because I seem to recall playing a Call of Duty, Killzone, Halo, Battlefield, Counterstrike etc about a decade a go and they still seem to be around |

See, threads like this are why you guys can't survive without me.
It's obvious that the effect on the ground was smaller because it was only a battleship shooting down.
The effect for a dreadnaught, shown on the site as art, and in older trailer is MUCH bigger. Thus it seems pretty clear dreadnaughts will have a different effect when they shoot planets. More like a nuke. It might even clear whole buildings, be so powerful you normally wouldn't want to use a dread, unless you want to glass the field. |

Yeah, and we wouldn't be able to survive without the other five or so people who made exactly the same point

i like the whole targeting encryption key thing that forces eve and dusties to co-operate via comms tho!
the whole oommph of bs guns firing on soldiers down in dust feels a lil weak.. but i guess when you consider it to be just 1 abaddon its probably a bit more balanced for fleets etc...
im also glad that in order to do an orbital strike u have to fit a particular mod on your ship, meaning you need to make allowances for it in a fleet fitting.
if you thought that bombardment was weak... consider that ramped up by 200 times! and then u get the true devastation of what that mechanic can deliver. and remember i mean 200 times, not 200%. and thats just 1 fairly full fleet of abaddons. |

Demo is short for demonstration.
dem-+on-+stra-+tion/-îdem+Ön-êstr-üSH+Ön/ Noun:
The action or process of showing the existence or truth of something by giving proof or evidence.
By CCP logic, that was actually the polished, finished product.

Because that was an FPSMMO which will not have the facilities to be patched every other day and will, therefore, require some degree of actually being done before release.

yahh cause DUST514 isnt going to be a totally download only game.... ohh wait it is!
so it wont be patched on the players machines... itll be patched to a new build on ccps servers and then people will Download the new build.
and just cause i hope sonys kinda given hints to ccp... the game mechanics and all programing aspects will be modular to the art assets so u wont have to re-download every art asset when a new build gets pushed out.
plus with ccp holding the keys to the servers.. if your local build doesnt match... it'll redirect you to downloading thenew build.
.... Of course this is ccp we're talking about so theres a LOT of areas that can break and cause emorage in those processes i just described. but meh... i dont have a ps3, so like i care! |

Minor criticism: The orbital strike effect in EVE is too spread out on the geography when the shots hit the atmosphere. Realistically, they wouldn't be spread that far out. |

Not enough kaboom is my main issue, although that spreading thing is pretty poor too. Each battleship gun alone is the size of the area that abaddon attacked - maybe they'll put in some RP point suggesting that the atmosphere reduces the power of the weapons used. Can't wait for 6pm when we get more bombardment info.
