Regarding the BS5 comment... i feel like a tit, was thinking of the hyp's repair bonus.
PS. the difference between running an armor rep and shield rep, is that that the large shield rep would still eventually cap out, unless you have cap rechargers, in which case you sacrifice resists etc... You could fit flux coils in the lows, but that would be removing damage, and "overtanking", thus slowing you down. You can try to permarun and sit at 95-100% shields while taking 60minutes to clear the mission, or let them drop your shield to 30-40% and pulse your XL booster, and have them all dead in half the time. I know which i prefer. :D

Well, took the new thing out for a spin last night. Managed to complete a mission, but it wasn't really much faster than my previous setup, due to having to make 3 warp-outs my previous setup wouldn't have had to.
I did part 1 of "Enemies Abound"
It killed off the first spawn very fast, I was impressed and thought I was doing a lot better than previous, but the second spawn had me warping out 2 times, as it had 3-4 BSs and a handful of cruisers in it. There was also a scrammer there that could have gotten me killed, but the drones popped it pretty quick.
Had to warp out 1 final time during the beginning of spawn 3, also.
Each warp-off took additional time due to alig-warp-realign-warp-activate gate and waiting for shield/cap regen between.
And yes, I did get EVE-Survival.org to work and I did the mission as suggested, minus one 'tip' at the bottom I missed.
The problem was, Spawn 1 was fairly large with a few BSs and Spawn 3 was very nearby and hard not to aggro.
The setup, as used, was: [His] 6x Malkuth Cruise w/ Cataclysms Loaded 1x H. Diminishing NOS 1x Rudimentary Concussion Bomb [Mids] 1x XL Booster II 2x Ballistic Deflection II 2x Thermal Dissipation II 1x Shield Boost Amp II [Lows] 1x Damage Control 2x Ballistic Control 1x Co-Processor II (Need moar weap upgrades)
No Rigs

bla bla bla
so you just seem to be not ready to fly a Raven properly. Hop into a drake that will serve you much better, probably, I can do every lvl 4 mission in a drake, without having to warp out ever. I donŠt even move in the stage, just kill spawn after spawn, or group after group. If you need a nice drake fitting, contact me ingame.

Well, not sure what 'not ready' is supposed to me. If I have every shield & cap skill at 4 or 5, not sure how much more 'ready' you could get. My DPS could be a bit higher, sure, but I doubt another 10% or 15% damage or w/e it would be would really make that huge a difference.
btw, nice troll. Keep up the good work. -----------------------------------------------

People pay silly money to get just few more % DPS even for PvE (or maybe especially for pve since it's very hard to get podded in pve). You're talking about 10-15%. Every mission runner would kill for extra 10-15%. This means more instapops, faster BS takedown... more ISK/hour and less tanking to be done since NPCs will die before dealing their damage to you.
Those couple-of-weeks-long lvl5 skills are usefull, especially if your goal is to max ISK/hour (running same set of mission for days and days can't possibly be fun for anyone... I can take batches of mission running without problems, but doing that all day every day... nah).

This confused me at first, 3-4 BS should not be enough to force a player to leave the field. But I think I know what you do wrong. When do you activate your shield booster? I'd imagine it is when you start taking damage, right?
Thing is, shields do not work that way. They regenerate and they regenerate at maximum capacity when you have 25-30% of them left, under 25% the regeneration drops rapidly. So what you should do is pulsing that shield booster when the shield goes below 30%. If you want to play it safe, pulse it so it stays just above 30%.
That should probably do the trick for you.

That's what I was doing. It'd hit 30%, I'd pulse one time, and it'd pop back up to around 42%. But it'd be back down to 30% again almost immediately.
I think the bigger issue was range perhaps? If I'd been able to keep them outside of 20-30km it may have worked fine, but they were constantly right up my arse, since they had a bunch of frigs webbing and the bunch of cruisers weren't helping my tank, either.
Resists to Thermal & Kinetic for that mission were both around 86%. -----------------------------------------------

my torpedo Raven is uber
i have made my torps fly 40 km and deliver 800 DPS to all targets, including cruisers
torpedoes are a better choice for smart mission running, i can't complain about the nerf
you can get your torpedoes to fly even 50 km and more... it's all about isk you invest
torps are brilliant

You see my point dont you?
Whiners about missels did forget mention one thing that high dps short range weapons in EVE need less powergrid to fit but that was not bothering them so long torps/missels launshers get nerfed they way they want, and yeah its affective on all sizes of launshers.
You see when you fitting mega (for example) with blasters for close combat you spare lost of PG for tank but fitting raven for the same purpose will leave you not much room to play with.
Thats i call balanced.
Just my 2cents.
Missels [sic] are not guns. The fact they operate differently make EVE filled with more variety, thus a nicer place imho. __________________________________________________

I don't know what to say then, except that I do not boost my shield so high as above 40%. I try to keep it one cycle over 30%

This could definitely be an area of improvement. Use your superior range to your advantage, move away from the group you're targeting to extend the time it takes for them to get in firing range of you. Most rooms lets you reposition yourself before they aggro, use that. Sometimes you can pick off cruisers before the BS come in to range.

Sounds reasonable. You can test your tank in EFT to see how effective it is against a rat by creating custom damage profiles. Right click on the shield and choose 'Edit custom profiles'. Name it 'Guristas Obliterator' and enter 30 in the Kinetic window and 24 in the Thermal. Now you have a damage profile for one of the most common NPC opponents in a mission.

Up to Part 5 of Enemies Abound, only took 3 days (due to war and ducking aggro, not due to taking that long missioning).
Level 5 of Enemies abound is completely not doable with this setup except maybe by gank-blitzing the gate, but I'm not sure if that works. No info on it on EVE Survival. Just useless info on how much DPS the mission does if you can't kill the auto-timed spawns fast enough.
Spoiler: A whole goddamn lot.
The DPS from cruises even with 3x BCUs is just not enough to kill the stuff in the waves in there fast enough so the spawn waves don't stack up. And when they start stacking up, the DPS is waaaay to much for this setup to handle.
Got some friends once it get too hard and came back. Warped in and immediately tried to warp out upon seeing the mass aggro and DPS. Didn't even have time to align. Ship blew like a <fill in the blank with your own dirty mind.>
Can't complain about the setup too much, had 3 ppl with different ships and a lot more SP than me try tanking it - all had to warp out almost immediately or face destruction.
What the hell is up with that mission??? -----------------------------------------------

Edited by: Hegotu Alecto on 26/08/2008 13:02:02 Passive tank on a raven works very well ...
4 SPR in lows 1 BCU Some passive resists in mids with extenders etc 6 cruise 1 tractor in highs, 3 core defence field purgers in rigs
then again i happen to have all shield skills at 5 and caldari bs at 5, but im pretty sure with some tweaking it can be done for peeps with lesser skills.
i never have to worry about my tank being broken all things considered it has the ability to solo tank level 4's, and i mean the whole room not just 1 group at a time, just learn to keep moving and keep your transversal velocity up mixed with your tank and kill the webbers first before hitting the BS's
In Short Passive tank + the following = a tried and tested method, being inexpensive for the most part and fairly easy to learn
Never stay in a straight line when moving, alter your course frequently Never Approach targets directly Keeping transversal up which basically put means fly at an angle, flight in eve is in three dimentions, make use of all dimentions long range NPC battleships will do less damage to you if your constantly moving so long as your not flying in a straight line or towards them directly. Webbers not scramblers are your nightmares, they slow you down meaning you are hit harder. -------------------------------

Looked through a bunch of different mission guides and the best advice I've seen on doing Enemies Abound pt5 is:
...wait for it...
DON'T
So far, the only info I've seen on actually running it suggests that you bring at minimum a CNR and a logistics ship. Either that or some combination of multiple battleships, spider tanks, or other gang options. Someone suggested that you MIGHT be able to do it solo in a CNR with maxxed skills.
Overall, the new setup seems to be working okay. I think I'll hit you guys up with some isk, for putting up with my whining if nothing else. -----------------------------------------------

Reithan... the cruise Raven is one of the best mission boats for several reasons... number one is it's ability to active tank without sacrificing dps mods for the tank (like armor has to). If you are having trouble doing level 4s in a Raven the words "you're doing it wrong" come to mind.
Besides, a Drake can solo level 4's for a lot less isk (therefore less risk on your part) just as fast and in some cases faster than a Raven can. T2 heavies with a full T2 tank and you're set to take full aggro (if you shoot the wrong spawn) in AE.
