Has anyone else noticed that when doing a google search, you can only find that video and not any linked articles about it? Theres no local news articles, no social comentary from fox news or anything about this. |

Edited by: Seroquel on 21/08/2008 00:45:08 Like the San Marcos' police chief said, this wasn't their finest hour. Officer Stephens made a poor choice of words but he wasn't the one that killed the teacup poodle. Gonzalez and his girlfriend were the ones that sealed the dog's fate by driving 95 miles an hour.
The whole thing has ended well. The officer has been repremended for his behavior. No one has died as a result of the couple's speeding. Everyone learned a lesson.
It's sad the poodle died but he's now tubing down that big San Marcos' river in the sky.

It was all over talk radio for a day and a half. It WAS in the news. I'm pretty sure the freakin' mayor commented on it.

QFT tbh. I'm a dog owner so I know the attachment that can exist, but I simply wouldn't drive that fast and I CERTAINLY wouldn't put forward such an unstable, panic-stricken appearance to the police officer. The stupid idiot is responsible for his own dogs death, end of. -omg-

A pet's life does rate lower then a person's, although only slightly. The guy shouldn't have risked the life of his family and others by driving recklessly. Nobody is arguing against pulling the guy over and ticketing him for his dangerous actions. I wouldn't have been so panic struck either however for whatever reason the man was.
However he didn't say ôI canÆt let you risk the lives of you, your family, and innocent bystanders on" or "you need to calm down". The thing is he didn't even attempt to help the dog once the owner or the dog. Even after the guy calmed down the cop ignored the dieing dog and began to belittle the man with statements like "you can just buy a new one". THAT is what has so many people angry.
There's a difference between punishing him and insulting/belittling while completely ignoring the suffering dog. Nobody is blaming him for taking care of an irrationally dangerous man. What makes people angry is the way he conducted himself while making no attempt to help the poor dog at all. Not even after the man calmed down.

Even PETA's site said the female cop tried CPR on the dog, so that end was taken better care of then what the owners did. If PETA is willing to admit that then no one has grounds for complaint; sorry.

Here in California, killing a dog is a serious crime. Some guy just got arrested locally for killing dogs he owned, and he's facing 8+ years in prison...
So in the eyes of the law, that dog may as well have been a baby in the back seat. And guess what would have happened to the cop if there was a dying baby and he was delaying emergency services to that baby...
I mean, animal rights laws are stupid (they're food ffs)... but as a wannabe lawyer and amateur cop hater, I think they should fire, arrest, and imprison that cop on animal cruelty charges. I'm pretty sure if _I_ killed a dog that's what would happen to me...even if I ate it...

I guess I am, I wouldn't want a total baby to be my father, the guy is clearly not fit to have a pet, even less so a kid. I hope he realizes that but then again the morons never do.
No-one killed their pet, they brought the death of the pet on themselves breaking laws and acting irrational, needlessly prolonging their detention. It's evolution baby!

So we're in agreement then. The cop, instead of dilly-dallying around, should have used his firearm to dispatch the dog due to the worthless, panicky, sissy owner, then dispatched the owner's girlfriend/wife (who must be a real pathetic loser to hang out with that guy and probably deserves it for that), then shot the owner in the head for freaking out over a dying dog that the law claims is approximately equal in worth to a child.

So he was probably like 20 mph more than he should have been.
This is grounds for a lawsuit, the cop's neglect/callousness lead to the dog dying. I hope this cop gets canned.
Speed limit on city highways is 65mph. You might be able to find 70 if you're lucky. This guy was driving at over 100mph. Thats almost a third more than the limit. Pets are not considered as "emergencies" by law and putting human lives in danger due to recklass driving at that speed is just plain stupid. They don't even allow people to transport humans at 100mph. This guys was an emotional basketcase and I wouldn't be surprised if he was driving recklessly swerving in traffic as well.
The thing people keep forgetting is that this guy did not calm down at all. Allowing him to leave in such a state is just asking for trouble and a repeat of the entire thing. Can anyone here really believe that he would stay at 65mph on the way to the vet afterwards? Are you saying that the cop should waste his time by escorting the guy to the vet? They're cops, not the carebear patrol!
There is no lawsuit nor grounds for one. We become attached to our pets as we would a friend. However, some people get attached to their pets on levels that really should require psychological help. That guy was one of them. Jeez, he looked like a 9yr old there. I thought he was going to wet his pants.
Quote: Here in California, killing a dog is a serious crime. Some guy just got arrested locally for killing dogs he owned, and he's facing 8+ years in prison...
That was in Texas though, and unlike Kalifornistan its not a serious crime. Maybe your 8+year guy got hit with animal cruelty or some messed up law. However, pets are property here so unless you go out of your way to make the death as cruel as possible its perfectly legal to slaughter your pets.
Yes this thread was resucitated..unlike the dog.
