I am thinking of playing some poker with my isk.
One issue prevents me from doing so. How do you deal with the problem of collusion?
I fail to see how the EVE mentality of 'bringing the greater blob' would be dropped just to ensure a nice fair game of poker.
I have no complaints, as I havent even tried it yet. My instincts tell me that expecting a nice fair game would be utterly foolish. EVE players dont look for a fair fight in PvP, why whould they break from tradition for poker?

How does two players colluding give them an advantage?
Also if you think _any_ type of eve activity is a scam / rigged / whatever, give it a shot with a smaller amount of isk. Don't bet more than you can afford to lose, and try to analyze it to see if it's fair?
That being said, how the heck do you win at poker by conspiring with another poker player at the same table? |

I'll have to assume you dont play much poker to have typed that :) Here's a clue, just telling your 'partner' what you folded gives an edge in the odds game an honest player cant compete with, and that is just the very beginning!

I think we all go through three phases in life, of which your suggestion is the second. First we are all naive and only become aware of the scamming aspect of human nature through hard lessons. Then comes the phase you suggest, where you know in your heart you are almost certain to get scammed, but for the sake of a positive outlook on life, you are prepared to give the benefit of the doubt. The third phase comes from experience of life and realise that there are only an exceptional few (who also stand nothing to gain) who will play fair and given the opportunity, not try to scam you.

Think the real difference is the fact that in eve, pvp isnt a solo event really, it is all about fleet, knowing your opponents adapting and learning. If you know who you are fighting is a blobber you muster up the biggest counter you can.
However in poker, its all about the personal glory, been banking for a while now and it is so competitive no one would want to share, nor trust people to share as winnings go to one person you would have to trust them to give you your fair share.
Now, also i cant speak for the other poker channels but in eve online holdem we do act against people cheating as much as possible, we do not allow multiple IP adress's to register so one person cannot play more than one account. We swap multitudes of info about players styles, watch for regular players/new players activity so if they behave in a way together that rouses suspicion it can be monitored, basically we do what we can but also rely on player input. |
