Edited by: Serenity Serum on 20/08/2008 14:28:01 Here is an idea for CCP to consider inregards to ISK Spammers. I am sure there is a way for CCP to track IP addresses through the client. If a spammer is submitted to CCP there should be a way for them to match the character name up to the account name which would hopefully be able to lead them to an IP Address. Put a block on the IP address all together not just the character.
Problem solved. |

I got an idea for a movie, and it goes like this (Check it out) It's about a boy who gets his finger caught In a bottle of Mr. Pibb
And they go on adventures, I think it could be big Is it too soon to whisper Oscar? Put a happy ending there and it'll write itself, I swear All we need are some meetings and a lead |

A Goon replying to this thread... Nice. And what sort of answer does he give... None what so ever. Makes you wonder who is spamming. |

Because you can use proxy servers to change your ip address and many isps change the IP addresses they give to a person frequently. |

And why would CCP want to get rid of ISK sellers, its money into their pocket from the farming accounts. The only real way of stopping ISK sellers, if ppl would stop buying ISK. No ISK buyers -> no money to be made farming ISK -> no ISK sellers.
This is also the reason GM's 'steal' ppl's ISK. It doesnt hurt the ISK sellers, but it does hurt the ISK buyers (and hopefully make em stop doing it). |

- Because IP-blocking are easy to bypass
- Because there is no one-to-one relationship between an IP and a person (or, in this case, bot)
- Because IP-blocks may unduly affect very large groups
Basically, you risk locking tons of legitimate players out, while not affecting the spammers at all. |

If IP Blocking is not an option is there a way for CCP to get MAC addresses. These are a bit harder to change since they are built in to the NIC.

Blocking IP's will only keep the cycle going. Go slightly beyond it.
All ISK sellers need to get out their website in order for their product to sell. Run a "whois" and find their ISP. CCP can then contact their ISP and have the site shut down.
ISP don't care about what their hosting until someone makes some noise about it. And if CCP explains that this site is in violation of the EULA, the ISP can shut down or face legal action. |

Same is true for dorsa btw.
So CCP should go the a chinese court asking them to shut down a chinese ISP because a few of there clients are selling the money of internet spaceships online? What do you think will happen? |

it doesn't even have to be Chinese - ccp can go and talk to any isp in the world and say his site is abusing our EULA they will say prrf nothing happening my friend they are not abusing our EULA - and we haven't signed anything with you

This pretty much sums it up. No game so far has effectively ridded themselves of ISK farmers for this very reason.
Eve has a shot at it though because it is a more wide open game as there are players and corps already dedicated to hunting farmers. If this element got large enough...they would just have to do enough destruction so that their cost of selling isk makes buying a GTC less money.
You would have to have a corps that sponsored suicide ganking in highsec for ISK farmers I think for this idea to be really effective. The cool thing is that eliminating ISK farmers is a part of gameplay. |

Being that the OP is about ISK spammers, how about banning all chars names like ffcdnsjcvndfh. I doubt many geniune customers will mind that they cant call there char scfhpseifks. Yes they can just create a name, but its a step. Its something rather than nothing.
How about having a system whereby if players are reported as spammers, and logs verify this by CCP. There banned from talking in channels.
Tbh, i dont really know the proportions of the problem. I understand they create new chars to spam etc. It will never end imo, all we can do is hope to slow it down, disrupt as best it can be.

MAC addresses have the exact same problem as IP:s: easy to change/spoof/bypass, even less easy to tie to a single person, and would catch large groups of innocents.
In fact, the server has no way of knowing your MAC address since you never connect directly to the server itself. The only way for the server to get this information would be if the client sent the extra information along (i.e. a non-automatic step), and then it can still be spoofed in roughly zero seconds flat.
If it's the spammers you're after, I still say the best bet is a good RexExp filter that is continuously updated with the latest sites. However, as others have mentioned, as long as there are buyers, the sellers and the spammers aren't going away. |

Here is another idea but pretty complicated. If CCP implemented a mechanism where you could /petition concord for permission to go hot on quigybo245!!!. You have a panel to submit chatlogs, corp info and time in game. Once approved, you are allowed to shoot them down and take their stuff with no retribution.
Not sure if that is a good idea though. |

Doubt this would work as most of the spammers do not leave the station.

I didnt mean the spammers. They would have nothing to spam if they dont have ISK to sell because their farmers are spending it all on buying hisec mining ships amd mission runners. |

Best way to get rid of spammers?
If you ask me, Don't ban them, Don't gag them, Don't do anything, EXCEPT....
When they're reported and found to be spamming, Change it so that they can still send messages as usual, Can still see messages from other people as normal, Can still see their own messages appearing in the channel they're spamming, BUT, The messages won't show up for anyone else :p
If possible, Make it so that other's who's been flagged the same way also sees their messages and flag them in bunches rather than one by one, It won't stop them from spamming, But it should definitely slow them down more than banning them and letting them sign up a new trial ^^ |
