Ok so ive cleared the cache, reinstalled eve and tried starting eve in safe mode yet the client will not start up, it shows the empyrean age splash then will not go to the log on screen. I see exefile.exe in task manager and eve on the task bar and have also tried putting it in windowed mode via alt+enter and still not response, any idea what could be causing this? |

Have you also tried clearing out your settings folder?
CACHE/Settings locations:
2000/XP C:\documents and settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\client_folder_location Vista C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\client_folder_location
Assuming you've cleared/renamed your cache AND your settings and it still is not working the next step would be to double check your graphics drivers. Re-download them, it can never hurt to try newer drivers, even if it's working with other games.
You should also try running the logserver to see if that gives any errors or exceptions. You can read how here. |

I'm using Vista, and running as admin. Didnt have any problems until i tried to use Eve voice. Now mouse clicks are unresponsive in the menu after the splash screen which is just black.

I might be able to help you do a troublesearch on this issue.
Step by step: * Bit earlier today my EVE worked fine. * I logged in another MMO, played it windowmode in a smaller resolution than I run EVE. * While still playing the other game, I tabbed out and started EVE to sort skill training. * EVE loads fine, but for some reason my fullsize EVE shows as windowmode. Doesn't matter much to me that I can't see the bottom edges, I sort my training and log out. * When I try log in again the exact issue as the OP describes happens to me.
The solution: - I did what you suggested, cleared the cache and settings, and it worked. - Wasn't really happy that my settings was done, so I removed it file by file this time to ID the issue, as I figure it's just a client setting that was bugged by having multiple game clients in diff resolutions running. - ..after some time, I identify the file that has the setting that causes this to be; C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_games_eve_tranquility\settings\pc.dat
I hope this was useful to anyone.
For the regular player this has a simle solution - Just remove the pc.dat (you only have to re-do two-three client settings) and the rest 'character' settings will be as they used to be.

Okay... I am having a very similar problem, but it may be a bit more complicated than all that. Here's my SitRep:
I am running Vista. EVE is up to date, and I use premium graphics. 27/08/08 - Morning I play EVE. Afternoon, same day I try to run EVE again, but freezes after splash image of Empyrean Age disappears and EVE shows in the taskbar. CPU spikes as per normal, but the game is a no show. I leave it for 30mins, and come back, but there is no change.
I have attempted the suggested courses of action: Clearing the cache did not work. Nor renaming the folder. Cannot act on settings folder as it does not exist. All graphics drivers are updated and running properly. All other games work fine. Apparently nothing to run on logserver. As i have no settings folder, I cannot act on the pc.dat file.
I ran Exefile on its own and the following came up and recurred: There is no D3D device availableAn exception has occurred it has been logged in the logserver as exception #(repeats from 1 onwards.

Anyone with ideas please advise....
