Well, I just got a Wii. So far all I have is Wii sports and Wii Fit (which I got for free from a friend!) So anyways, I kind of like sports (more than fit), especially tennis and the batting half of baseball, since in both those you swing the wiimote in a realistic way.
I rented Zelda and Smash Bros, and didn't like either one of them, mostly because they were more "traditional" video games and didn't really use big, realistic motions with the wiimote...
So, uh, which wii game should I rent next? I want something where I get some exercise swinging the wiimote around (for "traditional" "sit-in-a-chair" gaming I've got EVE), and it would be nice if the wiimote motions weren't arbitrary - they actually resembled doing the action.
I also have a thing for swordplay, so any games where you get to fight with a sword (I thought zelda would be cool, but as far as I could tell you were supposed to sit in a chair and shake your wrist in a 'self play' motion for the most part, rather than actually wielding a sword) - in particular I prefer the two handed sword style (kind of the star wars lightsaber style) rather than the one handed fencing style. Are there any games that are like this?

Edited by: MotherMoon on 22/08/2008 17:36:36 red steel is OK at best but does use the wiimote a LOT
also metroid prime is the pinnacle of what the wii mote can do *take as a good or bad thing) with many actions relating to your arms actions.
actually yeah just go play metroid prime 3, and don't be fools if you don't lkike fps's, it's only about 50% fps 50%platformer/action adventure game
oh and if need sword play go get no more heros.

If you need swordplay go ****ing practice kendo.
More seriously, the Wii will get you dissapointed if that's what you're looking for. Its technology is far behind to simulating reality: All games end up being "traditional" or, otherwise, very slow paced (wii sports) or simply bad (RS).
Stick to Smash Bros Brawl, that's the best you can get out of the console (heck, I even bought a wii JUST for that game)

I _do_ practice a sword based martial art... ("Amtgard")...
But it's only on Saturdays, and I need something sword like to fill the rest of the week!
Why the heck aren't there any good first person sword fighting games for the wii with 1:1 sword : wiimote mapping?
I'm probably going to get the wii zapper next, and get house of the dead and/or resident evil...but the zapper looks like it's backwards! (Shouldn't the trigger be at the handle of the gun, and not way up in front?) Would I be better off getting a third party wii gun accessory? (like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-Light-Remote-Control-Nunchuk/dp/B000V5ZAZE )

Edited by: HankMurphy on 22/08/2008 21:19:49 get yourself a zapper! link crossbow training (comes w/ the zapper)
zelda, man that game was great call of duty 3 (aim w/ the remote, not sure if that will suit you) blazing angels (many different cool variations to piloting w/ the remotes) rayman raving rabbits 1&2 (party game #1, 1000 different ways to use the remote) resident evil umbrella chronicles (uses zapper, arcade style shoot em up)
i know there are so many more i've played, but cant think of em right now. so far for sword fighing, things are weak (red steel sucked)
the new starwars force unleashed should be pretty good for wii and the first REAL good 'swinging sword' style you are looking for. i think its also the only console where you can actually play head to head vs friend and saberfight. so you have that to look forward to ------------------------------ of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most |

I honestly think Wii Sports is the best Wii game to date.
I enjoyed Red Steel (even though im one of few who did), I admit it had problems but at the end of the day I at least still had fun so meh
*never got tired of shooting people while holding the gun gangsta style sideways*
Wario Warez is also alot of fun but more of a party game than anything else, just mindless silly fun with the wiimote in 100's of mini games (not realistic movement with the Wiimote but it does make original and creative use of it).
And as others have said new Star Wars game shows promise

Wii is only good for playing with a group of friends, 3/4 minimum tbh, add some beer and its great. Only exception to this is Resident Evil
Anyways, great multiplayer games (or games to play with m8s):
Wii Sports Wii Fit (single player but its boring as shit without friends) Sports Island (awesome awesome awesome) Tiger woods golf Mario and sonic olympics (4tw) Mario strikers or watever its called is great to

Edited by: P''uck on 23/08/2008 00:25:02 I found Metroid Prime Corruption or wotsitsname rather enjoyable. Too bad you have to unlock the hardest mode by finishing it first, which killed the motivation for a second run, hard mode just didnt cut it. (at times it still feels like the tutorial for the wiimote, while the hardest mode wont allow any mistakes.) I shit you not, you can have 45 minutes bossfights, carpal tunnel syndrome and the feeling of accomplishment in one go.
If you give it a try, have a look first if you can unlock the hardest mode with a cheat or if you can download a savegame or anything.
I also had my fun with Excite truck, but I wouldnt pay more than 20 bucks for it.
edit: oh and supposedly nintendo will be selling some upgade for the wiimote that makes it do what it was supposed to do from the beginning ;) after that, you can have proper swordfights, just wait for it.

I dont know if we played the same game, but... wasnt Resident Evil on the wii this crappy game which didnt even let you strafe? which is kinda... crucial in any game where shooting is important-ish? I mean... it's 2008, there just is NO excuse for a game like that?
resident evil 1 on the PS1 was kind of fun, because it some lame ass puzzles and stuff, but i never understood the hype. in my book, resident evil series is mediocre at best, giving lacking control over the players avatar should NOT be how you make zombies frightening....

Game was easy enough without strafe so its not so much crucial as just preferable, combat worked fine as it was. It was the shit story and bad characters that were its real flaws, other than that it was pretty dam fun -----------------

So youre saying, it was basically fun, if it werent for all the flaws in the major parts that make up a game I KNEW i was onto something there...
