Are these skills effectivly the same ?
Trade
"Knowledge of the market and skill at manipulating it. Active sell order limit increased by 4 per level of skill."
Retail
"Ability to organize and manage market operations. Each level raises the limit of active orders by 8."
on my character i have a Max Open Order of 29 but the system doesnt seperate buy and sell and i can have 29 buy, 29 sell or a mixture of both. Is the wording of trade incorrect and should just be active order limit +4 or am i missing something as usual ?

Not certain I entirely understood your questions, but I'll give it a try...
Trading and Retail are essentialy the same, they boost the amount of buy/sell orders you may have...But like so many other skills, the two are also pre-reqs for higher lv skills...F.ex. you can't train Retail untill you've trained Trade lv II...What I suggest all chars train is exactly what you have now (even pure pvp pilots), Trade and Retail II...Reason for this is, it can be done in a few hours and it's a tremendous boost to you if you ever decide to sell mods you found/no longer need or if you want to buy ammo and mods at a fraction of the market price...I also suggest contraction I-II, again cause it's soooo easy to get, and because it's a pain not to have when you need it...
As for your total of 28 buy and sell orders, it is just that, your max total of the two combined...So 28 sell orders and no buy orders or 15 sell and 13 buy etc is your max...

it was just the confusion over trade stating increase to sell orders.
but i totally agree they are easy skills to train and worth every penny.

Yes. The wording is incorrect. Trade increases your number of Market Orders, i.e. either Buy Orders or Sell Orders depending on what you use, just like Retail does. It's just that Retail has Trade as a prerequisite (IIRC it has Trade 4 as the prerequisite, but I'm not 100% sure).

Retail only requires Trade II, but there are other useful skills that require Trade IV.
The effect of Trade, Retail, Wholesale and Tycoon are all the same: they increase the number of orders (either buy or sell) that you can have open. Only the number of orders added is different between the skills.
