I'm a bit confused as to the application of these four skills....
There is a skill for each of the four damage types..the description is as follows:
To active shield hardeners: 3% bonus per skill level to Shield EM resistance when the modules are not active To passive shield hardeners: 5% bonus per skill level to Shield EM resistance
So should these apply to an Invulnerability Harderner. Technically I would think an invul is an Active shield hardner of all four types... but I've been told it doesn't apply to that. I tried equipping an active of a single type but it seemed to only increase by the percentage of the mod.
I'd like to avoid wasting any more SP time on these skills if they don't help.... ôSalvage is as much an art as building the ship itself. We take rubble and make rigs, now that takes Talent.ö |

An example would be best here... Let's say you have EM Shield Compensation trained to L5, comparing to not having it trained at all.
A Magnetic Scattering Amplifier I grants -32.5% EM shield resists without the skill trained. With L5 in the skill it grants -32.5%*1.25 = -40.625% EM shield resists.
A Photon Scattering field, when on, always grants -50% EM shield resists. When OFF, without the skill, it's only -1% EM shield resists... with the skill at L5, when off, it grants -15% EM shield resists.
An Invulnerability Field I when on grants -25% to each and every shield resists. An Invulnerability Field II when on grants -30% to each and every shield resists. When off, BOTH grant -1% to all shield resists without ano of the skills trained... and if you only have EM shield comp to L5 but the rest not trained, when off, any invul field will grant -15% EM, but the same -1% to exp/th/kin.
Hope that clears it up.

or with an Amp II grants 37.5 * 1.25 = 46.875% passive.

EANM's and Invuls are passive, not active.

EANMs, yes, passive. Invuls, no, those are active.

Now now, there's compensation skills for Armor as well, and since EANMs are passive, it's a honest mistake :)
Knwo the OP was talking about the Shield Comp skills, but let's be generous :)
Tot he OP: Teother posters are correct, discounting the sniping :) - the Shield Compensation skills add resistances to both active hardeners (though only when turned off), and to passive ones (resistance amplifiers). That's where Drakes get their reputation as awesone tanks through use of resistance amplifiers that use no capacitor, through the resistance skills, AND through the ship's native resistance bonus.
Passive resistance amplifiers will give yo the most bang for the buck once those skills are trained - as mentioned, a T2 amplifier has 37.5% native, then add the corresponding resistance skill at 5, and you have near the effect of a active hardener of the same type - while using no cap, and you don't have to remember to turn it on either :) Admittedly, passive tanks are usuallkly used in PvE/missioning, as you usually need the midslots that the hardeners use for tackling gear....but when you can use them the shield compensation skills make them just that much more useful.

She was just pointing out that you supplied misinformation about an item and you admitted you were lacking any knowledge of the item type and therefore you should not post about it.
So don't get your feathers in a ruffle, just don't post about things you know nothing about.
Keep in mind this rule does not apply to me since I actually do not know anything worth knowing, but this would stop me from posting at work, which would mean I would actually have to do work which is just wrong.
