Edited by: Rialtor on 26/08/2008 18:03:23 Just curious as to what everyone's "favorite" song is, or the song you feel was the best ever composed and/or performed. Maybe you like it for it's catchy tune, political impact, revolutionized the industry, etc. So what's your song, and why?
Some ground rules, let's keep it to contempary music, and by that I mean 20th-21st century Music. It's hard to really compare music in the 20th century to Bach, Mozart, etc.
It's difficult to me pick one, but I think I'm going to go with a rather simple anthem-ish kind of song.
I like how the song conveys a story to the listener in a very compelling sort of way. While his piano playing is somewhat simplier than some of his other songs, the lyrics and immersion factor make up for it in spades.
Piano Man: Billy Joel.
No it's not a rickroll, but I'm expecting a few :).

i hate playing the favorite game, especially with music. My tastes change over time, especially my emotional state and that's where i find music so powerful.
I guess the lyrics that i can summon into my mind at any time to banish the terrible pop song that has invaded my brain from some public space and is driving me nuts may be considered my favorite song. Although some of my passion for this song has eased along with the hate and anger that I had at time, it is still a message of what i (don't) want in a relationship and for my life.
Pink Floyd - One of My Turns video
Day after day, love turns grey Like the skin of a dying man. Night after night, we pretend its all right But I have grown older and You have grown colder and Nothing is very much fun any more. And I can feel one of my turns coming on. I feel cold as a razor blade, Tight as a tourniquet, Dry as a funeral drum.
Run to the bedroom, In the suitcase on the left You'll find my favorite axe. Don't look so frightened This is just a passing phase, One of my bad days. Would you like to watch T.V.? Or get between the sheets? Or contemplate the silent freeway? Would you like something to eat? Would you like to learn to fly? Would'ya? Would you like to see me try?
Would you like to call the cops? Do you think it's time I stopped? Why are you running away?

Maybe he is trying to expand his current relm of music listening and is asking for random people to give him some other styles/genres for him to explore. I mean you come in to flame a guy for asking a question and your flame is almost a waste of space. You could have put down 2 or 3 songs that totally suck and that would have been a better use of that post space.
As for me here are a few of the influential songs in my life...
Bring the Noise - Public Enemy and Anthrax Starting Up a Pose - Anthrax Caution Extreme Lyrics without censor Lady of Shalott - Loreena McKennitt The black sheep in this list Perseverance - Hatebreed Before Dishonor - Hatebreed Rise - Pantera (concert footage with studio audio
and that is just a few

I don't think any person can pick an all time favorite song...maybe a flavor of the week, but no one single song can define how we feel about music.
With that being said, no matter how ****ed off I am or how bad of a day I'm having, What I Got by Sublime always fixes it.
Among my other favorites: Days of the New - Touch Peel and Stand Rolling Stones - Paint it Black ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man The Doors - Spanish Caravan Seven Mary Three - Water's Edge Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
Hell I have a TON of favorite songs and I honestly don't think I, or anyone else for that matter, have enough room to put them all in and I cba linking a bunch of songs that are made of pure win.

If you didn't feel like participating you should have just not posted. The point of the thread was to make the difficult choice, and to explain why. Actually the task isn't even that out of the ordinary, shows ôrankö music all the time, I was just expanding the genre.
So thank you for wasting your own time, and providing some comedic value in the thread.

Perhaps, but then it's easier to ask for that directly.

Where did I flame him exactly? I think most people who really listen to a lot of music can agree, that there is no "best" or "favorite" ever. Sure, there is "what is stuck in your head right now"... It's like coming and asking about EvE "what's the best ship?", without any context.
So if you noticed, I did not flame him, I actually gave an on-topic reply. To which you even agreed. You are the one who did the flaming. And why? Not even because you disagreed with me. Just like that, because you like to troll.

Well you are correct that is was not really a flame, but I took offense to saying someone has not yet begun to experiance music. I apologize for saying what I said and shouldn't have brought that in here. I tend to be an educator and thought your statment may be true it offered nothing objective to the OP.

If you were able to think clearly, then you would see, that I did not start any debate. In fact, I replied with a single statement, to which people agreed.
The debate was started by someone else in the thread, don't you think?
Originally by: Slade Trillgon Sorry for incorrectly labeling your post.
np.
Also, I bet, if someone went on ships and mods and asked "what's the best ship"? You both would be critical. Even though, it is "possibly just asking for ideas of what people fly".
See the parallel?
I felt the wording of the topic was incorrect. Nothing else.
More on topic: Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself. A bit old now, but a very nice album to relax to.

I am able to think clearly, if you were able to think clearly you would understand the importance of manners to have any sort of meaningful debate. Your remark was condescending, and I'm not the only one that thought so. Not only that, but it's obvious you didn't even take into account the usage of the English language in my original post.
Your post brought negativity to a thread that was meant to be anything but. In the end it doesnÆt really matter, I wouldn't expect someone that does not see the reasoning in having manners to understand that.

The best song ever is by far, Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky. Nearly pure instrumental, The Piano solo is beautiful, and the vocals are chilling and will raise the hair on the back of your neck. See if you can hear the few words said in it.
Other Personal Favorites Include Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter Grateful Dead - Black Throated Wind AC/DC - If you want Blood, You Got It (AC/DC is win for pew pew) Dr. Dre - Keep They Heads Ringin' Bob Seger - Turn the Page Commander Tom - Attention (remix) _

Great song, whether I am feeling down or super happy, it just adds a great feeling to my day. Some find it very maudlin, but there is a brightness, a promise of better to come in its lyrics that over ride down feelings.
And its got some sweet guitar work. -------
