I don't want to point fingers or name names, but is anyone else's paranoia meter ringing alarm bells here? Station air circulation systems and such are generaly equiped to prevent regular illnesses from spreading like this.
I urge that no one make any accusations as right now they would all be unfounded, but I invite friendly pilots in and around the Fislipesnes constalation/Placid Region to come bringing aid both in investigation and bringing any supplies that might be needed. Be wary as Quam Singulari are known to cause difficulties for travelers in the system.

One can never be sure of these things - coincidences do happen. While I would like to think that the Caldari wouldn't do this, there doesn't seem to be much that's beneath any militia. I know quite a lot of militia corps we could rule out (Duty, CAIN, COLD-Wing, etc.) who, to their credit, I know would utterly balk at bioterrorism, but for every one of them you've got a corp I'm just not so sure about. Obviously, I can't really say this without sounding a bit elitist, and a bit anti-Caldari, but to be honest, it's war, and given its proximity to Covryn my hunches say there's some foul work afoot here. -----

QUAM are nearby and in the Caldari rolls, sure, and might not balk, but it doesn't seem their style - they're thugs, not special operatives. They talk big and loud, and they fly ships that are big and loud and they like explosions that are big and loud. In fact I would be hesitant to suspect any mere militia organization. But that's as far as I'll go with that line of reasoning without knowing more. I hope it is just a coincidence.

Pilots are currently being allowed to dock and undock and can access station services and hangars, but have to remain on their ships/pods. I don't know about cloning and medical servies though.

Considering how often various pirate cartels such as the Blood Raiders make spirited attempts to dump engineered viral weapons into the atmospheres of inhabited worlds, I think it can be considered a minor miracle that this doesn't happen more often. -

Given current events, Mr. Nederland, although I can think of a number of possible internal causes I cannot begrudge you your opinion. I've no wish to come off sounding crazy, but my extremely close proximity to the system (one gate-jump from my main hangar in Stacmon and only a few more from most places in Placid I'm apt to be found) makes me a bit extra-sensitive to the mater.
Among other things, although the linked report was from ISD, I'm getting a bit more cynical torwards the local media of late...it's, how shall I put this, rathar more blatently patriotic? I have to read between the lines more than usual.
I tried a coupple long-range probes in the system earlier and they came up empty. Militia activity has been rather low, even CAIN hasn't pushed into the area much and QUAM don't bother. So if there's anything untoward to be found, it would be in or attached to the station.

I had the same "gut" reaction to this terrible outbreak. However, I hope it's just an isolated incident and I trust that the medical teams already on site can keep the outbreak contained. Luckily for the victims they are in the hands of some of the best medical professionals in the cluster.
If there is anything I can do to assist either the victims or the authorities, please let me know as I have easy access to resources in the area. First lets concentrate on helping the victims and containing the outbreak, then we can investigate the cause.

You know, it is possible that of the myriad viruses and bacteria that we all carry around mutated in just the right way in this one station to produce this infection. It wouldn't be impossible for such a contained, insulated environment to breed a completely new sickness.
Also, the virus is NOT fatal, which seems a strange thing assuming the virus is a custom - engineered bioweapon. ----------------------------------------------

While I'm not sure I'd be quick to point out any particular group as likely suspects, it seems particularly suspicious that the affected population appears to have mostly its professional background and status in common. It's tempting to conclude that there's frequently a nigh-indistinguishable line in poisons between "subtle" and "insufficient," and that someone was aiming for a subtle assassination.
This would match nicely if there were only one or two victims. But with thousands affected, it seems more likely that either an amateurish bio-attack (a tailored virus not sufficiently different from its basic form to get around standard Gallente immunizations?), an effort to temporarily incapacitate someone specific and disguise the actual target by hitting a broad category, or, perhaps, a warning: "We can hit you if we want. We pulled our punch, this time; push us, and next time you won't be so lucky."
The first would probably bespeak a penny-ante home biolab terrorist operation of some sort-- and the cause would probably have been traced, so if it's this, the media's either sitting on the rest of the story or hasn't been told. The second could be the State, or any number of other actors depending on who at that station is doing what, and could easily be an inside job with purely internal aims. The last ... would probably be the State making a point, not unlike the Elder Fleet's first appearance at CONCORD C&C.
There are obviously other possibilities, but this is what comes to mind off the top of my head.

Experimentation... field tests... think about it for a few minutes and a non-fatal man-made virus doesn't seem so strange anymore. I'll bet the Amarr are behind it, word is they've been enjoying opportunities to stir the pot in whatever way they can, lately, and we all know how much success they've had with their beloved VITOC.

The beauty of this virus, assuming it doesn't kill and was engineered, is in the fact that it doesn't kill. What better way to hinder your enemy without wiping them out with a new plague than to give them all the flu... a rather inconvenient and so far incurable flu at that.
While I find it difficult to believe that Heth or any of his cronies have the intelligence needed to pull off a stunt like this... let's just say that I've seen enough of Caldari business practices to smell a set-up. I wonder how long until someone dies, and it's leaked that Heth was responsible for this (whether he was or not will be another debate).
May the doctors find a cure quickly, war is good for business, but I haven't tapped the medical industry yet. Their deaths means less customers for me, and possibly more ISK flowing in the direction of an industry that doesn't pad my pockets.

Oh, sorry, I missed responding to you.
While the Amarr are quite adept at chemical and viral manipulation... you should really take a look at your allies, the Gallente. They took the VITOC formula developed by the Empire and created a better (more addictive/fatal), improved version called Tri-VITOC. This one is known to cause hallucinations as well as softening the mind to the point it almost lacks individuality. Then, they not only "leaked" the formula, they sold it to Caldari businesses, who in turn (looking for a profit) sold it to the Amarr Empire.
Quite interesting stuff your "allies" have created. I'd be more worried about the slaver hound in sheeps wool than the "Evil Empire" you condemn.

Okay, fine. I object on principle to the assumption being made that it was the Caldari who did this.
It could be a random outbreak brought to the station by a traveler who wasn't properly screened, it could be EoM, the Blood Raiders, or (if they had a reason to) even the Serpentis. It could be the Templis Dragonaurs (though they've been pretty quiet of late) or a lone nutcase who could be of any bloodline.
It might not even be a virus. I once treated a Watch trooper who developed an acute sensory hypersensitivity after his VATO headset (Vision and Audio Tactical Overlay) malfunctioned, constantly playing a subaudible whining into his ears and slightly colour-shifted everything he saw towards red for the duration of a four-day training exercise.
There's absolutely no basis whatsoever to be pointing fingers yet, is what I'm saying. This is merely a station that has fallen ill. Unfortunate though it is for the people on board. If it had happened pre-Heth, I doubt anyone here would have jumped to the conclusion that the Caldari did it or if they had they would have been ignored.
While it's certainly one of many theories as to why this has happened, it's not the only one by a long shot, and I urge my fellow pilots NOT to let their prejudice colour their judgment. -

Very true, Sticher, though it may be a bit more explanitory to say "if this had happened when we were not at war"...
I appreciate all the alternate theroies that have been presented, though I'm afraid there's not much I can do with them...my attempts to get information out of the station are being stonewalled and I lack much in the line of connections there.
Stitcher, I find it interesting that you bring up the Templis Dragonaurs...I actualy hadn't heard of them or didn't remember if I had; had to look up the name, which got me the public summary from CONCORD. Seems they were mostly driven underground a few years back (not caught, the file was clear on that) but wouldn't this (and I don't mean just the station incident, I mean the last several months) be an opportune time for them to be active?

Me either. He almost sounds like one of them sometimes, to my ears.
I too find it very interesting that they've not resurfaced. Maybe the movement as a whole died out after it went underground, starved of public attention? Maybe they've just become something different... something subtler and more sinister.
Pity most of the information about them was locked down on the authority of the CEP eighty years ago, really. Then again, I suppose we wouldn't want them knowing how much we know about them. -
