If you read the article posted on the EVE news center finally someone from CCP confirms the transition of EVE into the "mainstream" and details how gamers are put off by the game mechanics. If you look at the recent changes and the proposed changes it all makes sense, EVE now has battlegrounds and war decs are going to be nerfed and suicide ganking is being nerfed, the lofty scam was nerfed and very recently the long used tactic of joining a corp to ambush war targets has been declared an exploit even though its been used for years, who knows what other changes are coming even though "the game will not be changed".

Toggleable PvP flags are the antithesis of Eve's philosophy. Only after they have actually been added to the game will I entertain the notion that "WoW in space" whines might have some merit. That day has not yet come.
My stomach hurts intensely today for some reason and posting on teh interbutt is the only thing that makes the pain go away tbh.

Do you have a reading problem OP, Kyle Klanen? I fail to see how someone stating that EVE is a complex game and new players need help understanding it equates to WoW in space.
Maybe it is you, you are the one that should go back to WoW. --

Seeing as every else is only content with putting half assed one liners, I'll try and raise the intellectual quality of this thread out the gutter and ask where it says that eve is turning into WoW?
1. It says it wants to make it easier for new players, noone would argue with that.
2. It says it's thinking of adding some kind of trustfulness rating, but scamming will always be a part of eve. This is a good idea on the surface I think as long as it's not permament, we don't want yet another reason to use disposable alts after all.
"EVE also is looking to expand into the mass market. They are working actively to attract more women to the game and creating a strong social experience for players. Dr. E said that he explains MMOs to non-gamers as one gigantic conference call. They hope to grow further into the more mainstream markets of gamers. In the regard we asked about the potential for expansion into the mobile game markets. Dr. E said there is nothing in the worksàyet."
That part of the article is all you have to go on. I share some of your fears but let's face it, eve has what? 200,000 players in it's current state and the server couldn't take much more. What's really to stop 10 times that number playing aswell if 200,000 like the game? While still remaining true to it's roots.
Though you're possibly right, they might just go where the money is like every one else.
The only real problem is at some point I think maybe physical limitations will mean we may have to have another server, or at the very least have a far bigger galaxy, and the potential for blobs grows unfathomable.

Actually, there was a statement that Eve won't fundamentally change at all...merely that they're exploring possibilities to attract more players without changing the flavor of the game. They were rather specific about scammers always having a place in Eve.
Doesn't sound like WoW-ification to me. Sounds like good business sense with an already terrific product.

I must be blind. I read the article and did not see any comment from ccp saying We are making the neccesary changes to be a wow in space.
Hell I didn't even see the word wow in there anywhere.

The "re-evaluation" of war decs will probably take the form of mutually consenting wars, ie flagging.

Evidence for my case:-
-Battle grounds with CTF, check -Nerfs to aggression flagging and tactics enabling non consensual pvp, check -Nerfs to suicide ganking, check -War dec nerf, check -EVE becoming mainstream with "less daunting mechanics", check
Plus the hundreds of other little changes.

What, faction warfare? Kind of a weak case...there's plenty of nonconsensual action taking place in FW to be sure, and plenty of war decs with further reaching impact than the FW regions. CCP needs to work on making FW impact the game in more the same sense that 0.0 warfare does, but I'm sure that's in the works.

And yet plenty of non-consensual pvp still takes place. Nerf or balance is in the eye of the beholder of course.

Gauranteed to continue after the nerf...and nearly gauranteed decrease in pointless ganks/increase in valuable ganks.

Drawing a blank on this one.

If Eve mechanics can become more intuitive while the game maintains the same "get tough or die" atmosphere...why not? You're taking a "improve the intuitiveness of the game" statement and turning it into a "change the whole feel of the game" statement. I can't see Eve becoming "happy land of fairness and equality for all players at all times" any time soon.

That's because I'm just making shit up.
Fixed for you Kyle.
But let me get this straight, Dr. E, EVE's economist, talking about how they want to expand on the social aspect (Ambulation?), and make the game appeal more to women (weird, since there are no girls on the internet), somehow translates into the game design being stated as WoW in space?
In case you've never actually logged into EVE, the game is heavy on socializing and ambulation will expand on that. The start of EVE is rough, the tutorial is nice but there's a ton of stuff that CCP has probably decided to add some assistance with so people don't find themselves overloaded with unclear info. The welcome pages, for example, are very nice and would've helped a ton when I first heard of EVE.
But yeah, I guess Ambulation + trying to make EVE appealing to more people and easier to learn about the game = WoW in space.
I give you a 7/10

Spare us the hard-core existential pose, please.
The nerf to suicide ganks simply addressed the fact that they weren't costly enough to the ganker, to the point where they could be done for "lulz" with next to no consequences. The consequences were increased.
The "corp join" thing being defined as an exploit is long overdue. It's just blatent "meta-gaming", and yes, an exploit. It's using the game mechanics in a way that the devs didn't forsee to give you an advantage. It probably wasn't tagged until now because, like suicide ganking, it has recently become more widely abused.
War decs? Meh. If they were commonly used for political or even competitive purposes, as was the design intent, I might get excited about a nerf to them. They aren't though. They're mostly just a form of noob griefing by corps who can only be at the top of the food chain in high-sec. Haven't seen what they plan yet, but I can't say I care much one way or the other.
When you get killed in PvP and you show up back in the station in your ship no worse for the wear, come talk to me about "WoW in Space". Until then, I agree with the chorus here telling you to STFU.

Either you are a clueless n00b (from the look of your exclamation picture), who simply dont understand EVE. Or you are a troll who created an alt for trolling.
Seeing I am taking you for being a stupid n00b I wont bother report the thread for trolling.
However, I would advice you to find yourself a different bridge to flame from. We prefer to keep the forums as clean as possible from trolls and cluecless lemmings who dont know jack bout the game.
