Originally by: Yakia TovilToba Why does a combat space ship have windows at all ? There are no windows in my pod, so i don't have direct view anyways. A tank for example doesn't have them for a good reason, and combat spaceships shouldn't have them aswell for the same reason, especially if it's a armor-tanker.
If the shields are down and i shoot a projectile from my rifter on a battelship window, there's no armor or hull to protect the crew, the shot would directly hit the pod. Not very clever to have windows imho.
but a tank does have windows, for them as does need them- driver, commander.
navigation for example will need windows, especially on minmatar ships, so they can take a sighting when the computers go down.
people living on the vessel will need windows, cos 4 walls are dull after a while (trust me)
gunnery wont, they can sight down the damn barrels and blow that ship outa my sky.
You, in your pod, wont need windows, but given that all you do is think "make ship go now" and teams of crewmen/slaves/minions/warriors (depending on race ofc) actually DO the making ship go..... ...in accordance with the prophecy |

no .. not really. not in the sense of "just some piece of glass you can look through". the optics for the driver and commander are pretty much built like periscopes - not to mention modern systems that use video cameras instead of optical sights (e.g. stryker)
im fairly sure that battleships are more than just bits of glass you can look through ;)
and ofc I didnt just mean MBT, the likes of the warrior have little windows for example. for all they may be rather thick and bloody tough.
obviously a more relevant set of examples would be comparing them to modern naval vessels. ...in accordance with the prophecy |

Originally by: Xavier Zedicus read up a bit more. yes a BS may still have the odd maintenance hand but a frigate and cruiser with a pod pilot don't have crews at all. And since the captain in the pod can see whats going on and the crew just need to follow orders regarless of what they see there is no need for decks on them, which is why there isn't.
BS have more than just a few maintenance crew,
the smaller ships are often retrofitted from designs not orginally incorporating pods, hence theyll still have windows, bridges and so on and indeed still have decks, cargo holds, and all the other associated bits and pieces.
/pedant mode off
alright its just fluff, but its backstory and depth ...in accordance with the prophecy |
