It's mostly fun. The only 'hardcore' part is if your guild orders you to be on 4-6h raids 5-6 days a week. And if you really want to get some loots for yourself to be able to go to more difficult raids, you'll have to be there (IMHO) too much. (Not relying on luck here, every good enough raiding guild uses DKP anyway). And the thing that you really can't decide to what you spec your char. (Familiar with "wtf? you ice mage? go spec fire. *kick").
But as i always say, battlegrounds were fun, I usually went there when i was drunk. -- * sigh * |

not sure if this has been posted yet
but i think another reason that people seem to "hate" WoW so much is because of the more mature atmosphere EVE has, unlike this video (and turn your volume down ) (just saw that the other day)
i konw EVE has these kinds of kids, but not as much

About 2 years or so ago WoW somehow turned into a more childish game, they came up with all those festivities and cuddly crap, the web page was full of cute gnomes etc. and together with the fact that I was just not hardcore enough (I guess) to join scheduled raids just to have fun after L70 + heroic PUGs, that drove me off (for good).
Make no mistake, the game is really good and polished, but most more casual / mature gamers are probably gone already.

Thats why so many people play it. Its called instant gratification. Compared to other games its too easy. Even the raiding is easy.
Quote: Plus the atmosphere and ambience in WoW, such as the first time I walked into Ironforge, made me shit a brick. It was awesome, and I could see clusters of individual player characters at the auction house...
...Who i then proceeded to throw fireworks at.
The amount of carebearness in that last part was sickening. Its also common in WoW which says ALOT about their population. The instant feel goodness of linear never having to really think about what I'm doing is what sells to so much of its population that has no desire to work very hard to get accomplishments.
Plus the utter crap that is their pvp system completely sucks.

Originally by: Benco97 Personally I don't have any REAL problem with WoW itself, it's clearly a fun enough game or it wouldn't be so popular. My gripe is with it's impact on the gaming community, It was absolutely blanket advertised everywhere which pretty much ensured it was most people's first MMO (despite it being several years later than other games)and so it shot to fame. Other developers have seen this amazing rise in popularity and assume that WoW is some sort of magical panacea for gaming so they churn out clone after clone after clone which the people play because they don't know any different and so we have crappy clones of an average game becoming popular while Unique titles and ideas get ignored because they aren't WoW enough. THAT is my problem with WoW, I can't help but think how things would be different if they'd not advertised it so violently and allowed it to garner attention based on it's own ability rather than being shoved in everyone's face. Many of my friends play WoW, that's fine it just isn't the game for me.
I'll add to what Benco said with the other effect it's had on MMOGs: MMOG newbies only know WoW, so they expect every other game to be like WoW. When it's not, they tend to get mad and demand that their new game be made just like WoW. This causes real problems when they post this in Eve, because the two games are pretty diametrically opposed. They don't want real loss, real risk, and they want to be hand-held throughout the game, constantly told what to do next.
That's not what Eve is, and the older players have heard the same whines so many times they just reply "Go back to WoW."

Having played both eve and wow, this really isn't the case. Eve, however, covers it up better. In WoW, your main problem is childishness, in eve, it's elitism. Both show an equal amount of immaturity, the difference is that the elitists feel somehow entitled to behave in the way they do whereas the childish players don't realise what they're doing. I'm forever wondering why this elitism flourishes in eve, whether it's due to the small, usually ignored community, the fact that blizzard could buy ccp tomorrow and there's nothing that could be done about it, or the fact that eve players in general (given some of the photos from fanfest) don't have much else to feel elite about. I fear, however, that I'll never know what it is that causes it.

i disagree allot of people cant put in the huge amount of hours that is needed to progress in eve. when your playing wow you can log on for 20 min and hit things.
i do hope that eve never turns into wow as well,(i started playing this to avoid WOW). although im am looking forward to ambulation, i think a change of scenery will do evryone some good.

I couldn't resist looking at some of the "related" vids... and found THIS one (NSFW, IMO), but it's hillarious. I wonder if that was a real 11yo or somebody who applied some voice modifier

That's a kid named hobbs, and he's for real. That clip was pure awesome when it was released, and still just as funny. The only clip I can think of better than hobbs is 50 dkp minus

You cannot do that anymore when you have reached L70 and you only want to get some good gear... OK, you can grind faction (= boooring) but all the interesting stuff (heroics, raids) takes hours and requires 5+ people.

I just don't see how it will enhance the endgame or the casual gameplay. It's just Second Life in a sci-fi environment without the flying *****es.
