Frankly speaking guys, i have to say, that the Eve community, here on the forums is absolutely appalling. As a casual observer on the forums, all this juvenile behaviour i witnessed seemed designed to put me OFF playing the game. Just mindless nonsense. It's not even banter, its just vaguely repulsive, like its said by 9 year olds high off sugar or something...
So i have to say, and this is serious...Everyone here, should want eve to SUCCEED. But, all of the people here, you're all ambassadors, people see you, I joined yes...but i joined again despite the banter here, not BECAUSE of it. Im sorry, there are a lot of good people on these forums, but theyre far far outweighed by the meaningless drivel. Only the owners of this website will know how many unique hits this website will get, and how many convert etc.. But guys, if you want eve to succeed...HELP it succeed, dont help to play a part in its lingering death (which i hope wont happen)..
and for the record,i played for about 4 months last year before i went abroad, im back home now so i thought i'd give it another go...but i did have to think long and hard about investing time and effort into a game like this, when there are other games out there with mature players.....
i come from a civ4 background, and let me tell you, the posters on there are mature beyond belief....
and the weirdest thing of all is...and this is what i love about Eve...the experience within the game is just so amazingly complex. its as simple as one wants it to be, and as strategic and indepth as one's imagination can comprehend...it is a game 40.50, nay 200 times more complex than a strategy game like civ4 (which has its fair share of fanatics too...)..
so.why can't we be as mature here.as we are on other mature gaming sites...?

by the way, about 3 threads just got made about MITNAL..now that is trolling. i'm not being deliberately provactive, actually on the other hand, im pointing out, that the blase rudeness that is evident on the forums (in particular), doesnt help new players join.

- Eve dying...again... due to the forums this time.
- Only you can prevent forum fires.
- Why aren't you all mature and/or more civil?
There are some incredibly smart (at least by my standards) people that play eve and post here. Yes, there is alot of crap posts and basic drivel that you have to wade through, but that doesn't mean that mature discussions don't exist.
The thing is, eve is also a very competitive game. And with that comes elements of smack talk and other sorts of "you fail" sort of banter.
I'm not suggesting that you lower your standards, just that your expectations are probably a bit unrealistic.
Eve accomodates a very wide spectrum of player types, where as something like civ4 doesn't. It's not all that surprising that the forums for Eve should run a wider spectrum of personality types.
How you deal with that is up to you. /shrug
Also, the fact that Eve has a wider spectrum of player types (evident by the forums themselves) could be thought of as a positive aspect of the game depending on how you look at it.

i know there are incredibly smart players who play eve. i saw it when i joined last year in the corps channel, and when i rejoined earlier today, i noticed it again...
(newbie corps called SAK)..
i like that, their explanations and niceness gives off a really nice community vibes..all im trying to say is that..for people looking to join eve, the forums dont necessarily create a good impression...and it would be nice if they did...

Why are so many internet users so proud their parents didn't lock them in the basement?
Does this sort of thing actually happen a lot?
I remember reading a story about an astrallian guy that did it to his daughter and kept here there for over 2 decades.

You're right about GD being a cesspool (mostly - there are some perls and genuine discussions).
One way to deal with that is to ignore GD (and for good measure add some ignorance to CAOD while you're at it - nothing good comes from that section).
I sometimes don't look at GD for weeks or even months at a time.
You're right that it might might keep some potential players out - but then some here on the boards would like that.
The only way to fix this would be harsh and massive moderation by the GMs - and that again would generate threadnougts complaining about censorship.
