I've had following problem for the last 5-6 weeks: I keep crashing without a warning every now and then without even most of the time knowing it myself untill after 20-30 secs when nothing happens. This happens with 1 or multiple clients on and all EVE clients crash at the same time if it happens. Could be that I am able to play smoothly for an hour or then only 5 mins. Crash happens without any logical explanation: when docked doing nothing, middle of the fighting, looking for assets etc etc. But can be that I can wonder around JITA markets with 700 peeps in the system without any problems.
Here is my configuration: -ASUS A8N-SLI -4 GB RAM -AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ -Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinium -Club 3D 8800 GTS 512 MB -Windows XP (service pack 3)
5-6 weeks ago I managed to contaminate my computer so that parts of the windows went nuts and thus I had to reinstall everything on my PC (did the Format C). After that the problem started. Before the reconfiguration I had no problems what so ever. Was able to run even 3 premium cliants on at the same time with multiple things on background for example music, EVE mon, firefox server, excel files etc etc.
I have checked that all the drivers are latest versions. Only difference afaik actually is that the service pack 3 was not present on the previous config. I have reinstalled EVE clients 3 times and done as many duplicates as I have cliants. I never play with sound on. I have even tried with another set of video drivers without any difference. I have tried without any other (visible and known) application on. I have F-Secure Internet security 2008 virus killer and Malware bytes anti-malware program which both show that my PC is clean.
I took my router off and connected directly to the modem and what I noticed it that I receive 32 byte packages from EVE server back nice and smooth (sometimes max 1 pct loss) but when sending 1460 bytes packages I loose average 30 pct of them. Ok, I called the ISP (I have 5M cable) and spoke with them but they are saying the problem is on my end (well that is an obvious first answer from them). I have tested the pinging with my other computer (lap top not able to run EVE) and receive the same results.
Now before I declare war towards the ISP I'd like to hear opinions from people: What in the earth could cause this provided it is caused by my computer? Is the 1460 byte package size the size to test it with or is the 32 bytes enough? And I saw there was a post with problems with d-link. I am using WIRELESS G LINKSYS router. Could that cause the problem now suddenly? I changed also the port from 26000 to 3724 but that did not help.
Once more I need to mention that before the reconfiguration everything was running 100 pct smooth without any crashes. So would be a quite a coinsidence if something would have happened with the ISP during the same 48 hours period while I was reinstalling my PC.
Thanks for help

Edited by: Super Goofie on 05/09/2008 11:33:51 Been doing this and that and have come to the conclusion that my ISP and my computer are both fine. Pinged the 3rd IP from my modem with the 1460 byte packages and lost 0 pct of them (should have done that first tbh to save the time).
Also did the pathping up to the eve server and noticed that most of the loss 3 pct came from there and 2 last IP's from it. So I have just gotten unlucky and suffer from the disco problem.
But no worries, I want to be confident that it is just temporary as afaik CCP is aware of those also.
Keep up the good work CCP.

What about going back to XP SP2 or, if it's in the choices, run EVE under Windows XP SP2 Compabillity mode.
Linkage - the part starting with "Set Compatibility Properties Manually".

o/ all,
Just to inform you that I think I have found my problem finally. What happened is that I took my SP3 out and screwed up my computer again...lol. So everything was installed back on it. I kept dropping still. I was getting very very frustrated and sad panda. I started to crash every 1 hour so I figured out that my ISP is home free, eve server is home free and my system needs to have still something messed up.
Checked my router settings. Lease time was set to 0 which means 1 day so it could not have been that. Group key renewall was set to 3600 secs. Hey that's exactly one hour!!! It had to be that. I changed it to 7200 secs and started to play. Crashed again every 1 hour. Got frustrated again.
Then I started to look at my virus killer and found 2 things which I changed:
1. I chose the setting which assumes that my connection is on all the time. 2. I made my router as a trusted device.
And voila - no more crashes no matter what I do and no matter how many minutes pass by!!! I think the No. 2 was the solution.
Thanks Leelo for replying on this and my apologizes suspecting the eve server would have had probs.
Fly safe all!
