MUST BE FIXED ON CHAOS BEFORE RELEASE TO TQ.
This bug is a severe hindrance to proper and fair gameplay. And it is a BUG. Do your physics, a missile CANNOT cause even a slight change in velocity or alignment to a ship with the mass of a battleship. No way in hell. They should hit like turrets, ship speed and alignment should not be affected AT ALL, but make a loud sound and big explosion. THATS IT.
Also if defenders are released with the missile changes and still don't work, missiles will be highly unbalanced. Devs you need to give defenders a range of 100km and the ability to score a hit on incoming missiles 100% of the time.
If these two things are fixed then missile platforms will be balanced, if not, they are insanely stupidly overpowered. I'd rather see the game mechanics fixed and balance rather than nerfing the intended missile changes to make up for unintended BUGS in the programming!

Edited by: Other Minion on 09/06/2004 21:33:23 Well... you haven't read the description.
I am pretty sure a megaton nuke could knock a battleship around. The Soviet Tsar Bomb supposedly caused a shockwave that circled earth 3 times. If a bomb of today can shake a planet then an explosive deivce in futuristic eve can easily knock around something as tiny as a battleship.
Quote: Light assault missile. The Piranha is a tiny nuclear missile based on a classic Minmatar design that has been in use since the early days of the Minmatar Resistance.
So the light missiles are nukes.... wonder wtf they have in the cruise and torps?

This issue really has to be addressed. Its annoying and I already lost a couple of ships to it on TQ and I see its still not fixed on chaos.
The changes in speed and direction are really quite drastic and its like a free warp scrambler. Not fair on the gunships and people who fly them.
Why dont you just DIE DIE DIE !!!!

Other minion:
Think through what you are saying for half a second and you will realize how dumb it is. I'm not saying that they can't cause vibrations or a jolt that you feel if you are inside the ship.
I urge you to consider the structural integrity of such a ship if it is being jolted around in the way that it is currently. For one, a missile would sooner tear a hole straight through, or blow half the ship off, rather than displace the entire ship, however slightly. Think about the Death Star from Star Wars. The explosion that left a crater in the thing didn't shake the thing or make it travel backwards, or affect its velocity in any way!
That's because manmade structures, even made out of the absolute toughest materials, will sooner be blown APART rather than be affected as a structural whole. So if the weapon really is THAT powerful, it would blow the wing off the ship instead of shaking it or moving it backward.

Fully in support of the original poster... the ship flipping around when hit by a missile is highly unrealistic and for a player extremly annoying. In addition, firing a missile should not have an impact on your velocity either... given the mass of a ship and the mass of a missile, firing a missile will NOT have an impact on your velocity... Plus removing unnecessary code is always a good thing... if it doesn't improve gameplay, then it should not be in there...
About Defenders, I think they need to be rewritten that each defender picks it's own target and marks it as taken care of, next defender fired will take the next closest target that has not been taken care of yet. Only being able to fire one defender missile at a time is an extreme drawback against a ship that can fire 6 missiles at you without any restriction. Defenders should also reaquire a new target in case their original target disapears.
Smartbombs... due to the missile speed changes, the way smartbombs work has to be revised. Missiles traveling at 6km/s are in your smartbomb range for 0.3-1 second, it used to be tricky before to time your smartbombs right, with these changes, it's nearly impossible.
Missile physics... bringing the missile speed changes in without adjusting the physics doesn't make sense... ships can't outrun missiles anymore and you can't avoid them either by trying to use your agility against them. This makes missiles guaranteed hits and all you can do is hope to warp out before the first one hits or be able to destroy the missile ship before you're dead... in terms of gameplay, these are not very exciting options and it defenetly is a step back in terms of what we have now.
Every change to the system has ripple effects through out many other systems... they need to be considered in the original change.

rockets and light missiles should not be able to move any ship around. Heavy missiles should be able to move cruisers around. and Torpedo's and cruise missiles should be able to move battleships around.
but not as much as it is now, reduce it :P ______________ Only in the Tales that humans tell, do the hunters kill the wolf in the end.

i agree ... having my bship tossed around like a rag doll is rather annoying ... especially when its frigates spamming small missles -_-

I took my Tempest to die at a belt the other day.
Should have made a fraps... it was hilarious the way my thousand ton Battleship was spinning and bouncing around 180 degrees when being hit by light missiles.
If this was intended, fine. But I do recall that this was supposed to have been removed months ago, only to come back with some patch by accident.

It¦s extremely annoying, that they have introduced this bug on Chaos, i hope they will fix it before the patch is relesed.
if not i will fly a raven all the time, and insta gank peeps all over.
So lets hope the DEV¦s listen to the playerbase testing this on chaos. So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

LMAO,, This is not by any means new I lost an apoc to light missles and a few 10k rats and was politely told "our logs cannot confirm this is what happened to you" even though at least 3 or 4 posts now confirm it does happen I guess we will just continue to deny it rather than fix it .

VERY disappointing if this hasn't been fixed. Fixing this should have a high priority.

There is no reason at all for any missile to move any ship. Seriously does anyone have a physics degree who can explain it better than I did above? It just physically can't happen.
Not to mention anybody inside a ship moving in that way would be splattered all over the walls and easily dead. Not a comforting thought for the ship crew.

Indeed, I certainly hope this will be given highest priority on the list of things to fix.

Edited by: Hawk Firestorm on 11/06/2004 01:58:11 There's always been loads of bugs related to collision detection this being one of em the other being Bestowers having a collision radius of a small planet. lol
Though I would say that drones have the same effect it's perfectly possible to prevent a ship from warping with drones in the same fashion silly really.
