Always use shortest ammo possible.

Between 0 and optimal - no penalty to hit chance Between optimal and falloff - 100% to 50% chance to hit. Between optimal+falloff and optimal+falloff+falloff - 50% to 0% chance to hit.

So allways use the most damageing crystals with the shortest range? And what about the tracking speed, how does that come into play? |

Yes there are good guides. Try the tracking guide here. When I was a new Amarr pilot it took me a while to cotton onto it. The key is getting to know the Transversal Velocity of the object your turrets are tracking. Then obviously how fast your turrets track also effect things. But basically what the other dude said, anything under your optimal should give you 100% only if your turrets can track it fast enough, the closer it gets the faster it orbits you and transversal goes up, making tracking more difficult. The Tracking guide explains. Also using the lowest range of crystal isn't always the best option either, if you can kill several enemy's with 50km crystals while they are heading to you we then you have saved time, if you waited for them to get in range with 30k crystals your wasting time. Just get used to changing crystals in a hurry

Navy Multi or Scorch
Its pretty simple to work out which ranges apply to those, which one you use depends on how close you want to get. In general though its nice to stick out at Scorch range and reduce the damage coming at you =] |

It can be extremely effective.
However, the effectiveness of a web is also dependant on how you are moving: there is no point webbing your target to a stand-still then orbiting him faster than your guns will track.
Also with regards to tracking, the tracking guide does not do a very go job of emphasizing that tracking is a continuosly variable factor, not a yes/no hit-or-miss factor, nor does it clearly indicated that the signature radius and tracking factors are directly interconnected.
You want to ensure that your tracking is far better than the specification indicated by the turret's attributes.

T2 ammo is exception to a lot of rules. Furthermore the person is obviously just starting out, why don't we mention Battleships with T2 guns? That totally makes sense!
Or not.

Most guns benifit from using a webber on target that are moving in orbit close to you as guns have issues hitting in close due to tracking and webbers reduce transversal.
In PvE running level 3 missions an below in a BC or cruiser a webber is definately part of the fits I use on both the maller or harbinger.
As soon as you start running BS with large guns I just go for tank and let my drones deal with all the close crap for level 4's.
