Question:
Was reading through the forums and saw the Salvager or Smartbombs being used as Heatsinks? I do not see an attribute (online, not in game) that says that either module absorbs heat damage. Would this even matter on a ship using Hybrid Weaponry? I thought heatsinks were for weapons based off of Laser weaponry?
Thanks! |

There are actual heat sink modules which are low slot items that increase the damage done by laser turrets.
When you use a smart bomb or a salvager as a 'heat sink' you are talking about overloading your weapons, which when you do, causes your weapons to take 'heat damage', fitting an offline smart bomb or whatever soaks up some of that heat damage allowing you to overload your weapon rack for a longer duration. |

When you over heat the rack, damage is spread acrossed all modules there. If a module is offline, it still takes heat damage, but does NOT contribute to heat build up hence. The result is although all modules still take heat damage, because it is shared with the off-lined module they don't take as much per cycle. Hence they act as a heat sink; helping bleed the heat damage from over heating off the active modules. Any module can be used in this way, but players tend to use modules that can be onlined and used in other ways when they aren't in combat.
In comparison, "Heat Sinks" are low slot damage mods for lasers.
That help any? |
