Ok I am just getting into this and I have read some but have questions concerning scanning.
I have read say when you launch a Multispectral Probe that you have 600 seconds to complete your scans how is this accomplished exatly. I keep getting failed results or is it when the probe stops that you get the results if any.
How can you tell if your scan is being completed before the probe time runs out.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. |

A multispectral probe will last for 600 seconds before it expires. Once launched, go to your scanner, select cosmic signature, then the probe, then the button "analyse" at the bottom of the scanner window.
The window will change and a timer will be in the top left of the scanner window, counting down until the end of the scan. This will vary depending on your skills, ship, rigs, implants and probe launcher.
At the end of the timer, the window will either say "Nothing Found", in which case there are no exploration sites in system, or it will say one of the 5 types of site.

That thread will be of great help for you, if you are not already using it. |

If you have nothing that affect scan time (rigs, skills, ship bonus, Sisters Launcher) then you will never get a result from a multispec probe. The probe lats for 600 seconds, and you unmodified scan time is 600 seconds. Since some time has to pass between when you lauch the probe and when you start the scan it will all ways fail. |

If you run a multispectral frequency probe and it says "Nothing Found" on the scanner with a pop-up that says "No scan signatures detected" it means there's no exploration sites in that system. Part of the joy of exploration is having to hunt down a system that actually has anything in it in the first place.
If your probe dies before the scan finishes you just drop out of the "analyzing" window to your scan menu and you will see that your probe is no longer listed there. Also, you cannot warp after you start a scan. That screws up your scan so that it won't work, but there's a glitch where it can still look like you are running a scan. ----------------------------------------------------

Incorrect, this was fixed ages ago.
