How exactly do these work? If for instance the distance between 2 gates is 60au could you place it at 30au and still catch people? I've only ever been sucked into them close to a gate.

it will only "catch "people in the same grid , and if they are comming from the correct direction __________________________ Cybernetics in Motion |

Within 100km of the same grid I believe. IE if you have a safe spot on the gate 350 km out, you wont get sucked into the bubble on the gate. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

No Cyborg is right. If the bubble is in the same grid as your warp target and in your warp path it will catch you.
If you're setting up bookmarks to avoid this place em next to or above/below the gate, not inline with your warp path.

Edited by: Drakkan Raziel on 02/09/2008 19:41:47 Still a little confused, would it catch someone midwarp between 2 gates if the bubble is on their flight path?

Thanks for clarification.
/me ponders sucker bubble setups for tonight. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

Gate1<-------->O<-------->Gate2 no
Gate1<--------------><-O->Gate2 yes
Gate1<-------------->Gate2<-O-> yes
you can put them behind Gate 2 and it will make ppl over shoot the gate it can take noob off gard but less green players will know how to escape

I tried it out quite for some time maybe 3 weeks ago (on sisi tho), and it didnt work at 130km from gate when warping from gate to either safespot aligned to the bubble or a station that was aligned.
It is strange since the bubble is visible and you go right through the center, but it doesnt stop your warp or suck you in.
It started working at somewhat like 80km or so, maybe more, didnt try every 10km
Edit: I had the impression it has to do with the ships speed when hitting the bubble, but that might be just coincidence in the experiment since shorter distance gate<->bubble means lower speeds while leaving/entering warp from/to the gate.

No that doesn't work. The bubble has to be in the same grid as the warp target of the victim. Meaning it has to be visible from the point where the victim intended to warp to. So if you plan to place a bubble you need to start your thinking from the point where you expect your victims to warp to. That's usually a gate.

IME, it has to be with within 100k of the end-point of your warp. So, if there is a bubble 20k in front of a gate, and you warp in at 100k, you will be sucked into the bubble, but not if the bubble is 20k past the gate.
Also, odd things start happening around POSes, and I don't know why. |

Trust me it's not the entire grid. I live in 0.0 and use them all the time. 100km is sort of right but not 100% accurate. When you warp into an area that has a bubble in it imagine your path as a line that extends 100km in either direction from your landing zone, the gate. If this line intersects the bubble then you will get sucked in.
That line can be within 20km of the bubble as long as it never intersects. If a bubble is aligned between gate A and B you will get sucked into the bubble but if you warp from a different angle you might be able to avoid crossing the bubble and get through. Of course if the bubble surrounds the gate then there's really no way around it.

any bubble (mobile, warp disrupt probe, HIC bubble) only cares about two things, your warp destination, and whether your warp path intersects any part of the bubble or not. Your warp destination is the celestial or bookmark that you initiate warp to. Warping to something at 100km/70km/50km/etc is irrelevant, you are in fact warping to that object, just at range.
If your warp destination is within 100km of a bubble, you will get sucked into it as long as your warp path intersects (or would intersect, if it continued) any portion of the bubble. Therefore a bubble can be any distance up to 100km in front of or behind a gate and will pull ships to the edge of said bubble. Say there is a bubble 70km behind a gate in line with the gate you warp from, even if you warp to the gate "at 100km" you will still get pulled to the bubble past the gate, your warp destination was within 100km of the bubble. If you had a bookmark 100km in front of the gate and warped to it at 0, technically you shouldn't get pulled (though you can sometimes, the 100km of bubble rule is more a guideline than rule, it's flaky). A bookmark 150km in front of the gate will definitely not get pulled to a bubble setup past the gate.
If you are launching/anchoring/activating a bubble, the best way to ensure you are setting them up correctly is to click "look at" gate, then line up the icon for the gate you are at with the gate your targets will be warping from. With both icons overlapping you now have the warp path, make sure that warp path intersects your bubble, whether its in front of or behind the gate. You can use a single bubble to pull from multiple celestials/gates within a system, as long as any part of your bubble intersects with each warp path. These are easier to set up past the destination gate, typically if the destination gate is far away from all the other gates in system (hopefully its a gate without any celestials within scan range too, so alot of blind warps) NOTR How to Fail at Eve
