They made a change to how settings are saved that makes it so they're less likely to be lost. However, they have to be lost in order for the change to be put in place. |

He'd have to know that it's the installer messing his settings to begin with and I don't think he's the only one missing that memo.
Luckily for me I recently blew a fuse, purged the whole machine as to finally get my boot.ini back so my settings are supposed to be shot.

lets break it down nice and easy for the OP
1. Launch Eve normally 2. Download patch 3. Install Patch 4. When the Patch has finished installing and it asks you if you want to launch Eve-Online, you close the window 5. Repeat Step 1
Now your settings are not nuked

When you finish updating from the auto updater the auto updater would ask if you would like to launch eve, say no and exit, double click your normal game icon and enjoy, remember to do this next patch.

Close the autopatcher, and then open eve normally.
you may still lose settings, but only some of them and not the entire lot (this patch it was window positions) |

Nice workaround. OP's original argument still stands. How hard is it to make it not nuke the settings? -

Okay, if it's as easy to do as that... WHY THE F*CK DOESN'T CCP FIX IT TO WORK THAT WAY BY DEFAULT? They spend thousands of man hours to fix countless bugs, but can't fix something that the players work around as simply as closing & restarting the client after a patch is applied?
Like, WTF, CCP idiocy rulez!

I backed up the settings folder and the prefs.ini file.
installed the patch and it completely nucked my eve installation Had to download and install the full client, over 1.2 gig which took 15 minutes to download
Re-installed eve and restored settings folder and prefs.ini
logged into eve and what did i find? you guessed it, ALL settings gone
This happens EVERY time there is a major patch á

I can't believe people complain about something as lame as redoing bunch of settings. Play and adapt, the motto of all you PVPers. Takes less time to adjust settings then it does to learn to PVP. IF it takes you 3 hours to adjust you setting back then you need to get a life outside of Eve. CCP does not need to correct a 'mistake' of resetting setting when its not a bug or mistake to start with. preferences are just that preferences. you should record those separately and adjust yourself. It's not unlike buying a new car, you need to adjust the car to fit you every new model has new features. but sorry they aren't going to adjust the mirrors for each user, you need to do that yourself, along with adjust the seat and setting your radio stations. So get over it.

Take a deep breath, its okay.
Its not like you wake up and find out you need to adjust to a new car (every 2 months or so)

Not sure what your **** and ***** words are but I'll try to respond in same tone. Stop being a 'baby', grow up and live with the fact your needs for the pixels to be aligned just perfectly is less important me and the rest of the world than the time it took me to read your response and articulate a response worthy of your desire to know what as been in my rectal cavity. Who made you the judge of what is and isn't working as intended. Why don't you spend a few more moments figuring out that my comment was to explain that settings in Eve are not 'feature' of the game but simply an adjustment of the interface. CCP never stated that your settings would remain static and unchanged. Like every other game you play online....

Is something this small somethine we're expected to bug report?
I mean, really?
It happens like every freaking patch, and would improve the experience for literally every single player, multiplied by every undocking account.
Honestly it shouldn't even have to come to us.

When you hit quote they are no longer asterisked.
I wouldn't call your responses articulate, they are simply fanboy trolling. I also have no desire to know what has been in your anus but I do know it involves you being sodomized by a 12 inch phallus.
I am the judge of what is working as intended because I know that CCP would say if they wanted all your settings to be deleted after each patch, they haven't said that. Therefore it is an easy conclusion to come to.
An interface is a big part of a game, how it operates and even if it is a minor annoyance it is annoyance that people should and will take issue with and have the right to express their opinion about the matter so that it can be fixed later. Now just because you get a hard on for sniffing the rectums of CCP doesn't mean everyone should just bend over and be sodomized like you.
The EULA reference you quote is legal protection. Reguardless it's not working as intended and it's not working how your customers want it to work. They are here to cater for their customer, they are a business. _______________
