I spotted this Thorax setup, EFT'd it (yes yes shut up )
H: 5 x Light Nuetron II's with Void S
M: 1 x 10MN MWD II 1 x scram (best 20km) 1 x X5 Web
L: 1 x Anti Expl II 1 x Anti Kinetic II 1 x Anti Thermal II 1 x 1600mm RT 1 x 800mm RT
Rigs: 1 x Anti-Expl 2 x Trimarks
Drones: 5 x Hammerhead II's
Now, it gives 250dps, BUT has close to 43 000 effective HP, with near 70% resist across the board.
Any comments? I'd like to try this for roaming low-sec picking on other cruisers and possibly the low skilled BC pilots etc. The rigs do make it a bit expensive

I know these small weapons on medium class ships setups work for some things, but I auto-reject them myself.
To each their own.

Forget the void and go to Fed Navy Anti-matter. The little dps boost isn't worth the optimal loss.
Drop those resist rigs and either add 3x Damage mods or 2x Damage mods and a DCII.
Drop the rigs also. On such a cheap ship don't even bother with wasting isk on rigs.

Edited by: Rajere on 03/09/2008 13:12:32 Edited by: Rajere on 03/09/2008 13:11:39 go all gank tbh. Either you're in a cruiser gang and your thorax is going to get primaried anyway, or you're the lone t1 cruiser in a roaming hac/recon/bc gang, in which case either you'll get primaried first or you won't get shot ever. If you're gang is ganking a lone ship, just hang back, don't be the first one in to tackle random ratter/etc, you don't want to die every fight

628 dps with max skills w/o implants. t1 your mids to save isk, you'll go through alot of these.

The setup you have listed would make a wonderful bait ship for gang work; loads of EHP, decent damage, tackle, and it's a ship type that gets primaried often. The only chage I would make on your setup as a bait ship would be to drop the hardeners for a Damage Control II and a pair of EANM IIs; your armor resists will have a mild Explosive hole, but you'll probably end up with a lot more EHP overall. Also, I would consider less expensive rigs, but that's just me.
For any purpose other than bait, your setup has way too much tank, not enough gank, and costs too much in relation to how well you can expect it to perform. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

While I am a big fan of the plated Thorax fit, that is just overkill. There isn't any good reason to put rigs on a disposable ship like the Thorax unless you are filthy stinking rich and it is silly not to put a damage control on it as well. Just go with the standard Thorax tank fit:
Highs: 5x Light Neutron II's w/ Faction Antimatter
Mids: 1x MWD 1x Web 1x Scram
Lows: 1x 1600mm Tungsten Plate 2x Energized Adaptive Nano (or hardeners depending on the situation) 1x Damage Control 1x Medium Repairer
Drones: 5x Hammerhead
This fit is not too skill intensive and you will be able to outlast most other cruiser setups and some newbs in BC's like you stated above. It is also quite sufficient for ganking frigs, haulers or crappy cruisers (aka Caracal's) at gates/stations. ----- My Pirate Blog: http://evenewb.blogspot.com/

No rigs in T1 cruisers ever. EVER.
LOWS: DCU II, damage mods, 800mm plate
MIDS: standard pvp stuff
HIGHS: Heavy Ion IIs
Drones: ECMs
The Thorax is a fun boat, and you'll need T2 and lots of skills to be a true force of destruction. If you're in a gang with plenty of points, you can drop yours and add even more ECM in that midslot. Trust me. It's sick.

I know this is a post for Thorax advice, but if you like the idea of a plate thorax, you may want to try a plate Vexor as well. Using the 1600mm RT passive tank, small guns, and t2 drones, it can put out nasty dps and tank with the best cruisers. Great for solo work, i suggest it. However, if your goin in a fleet or even a small gang, i agree to just go with a massively gank fit Rax.
