Will get my Raven bought today and letting it collect dust at the hangar as i slowly build it. I got the basics on the mod/weapon side figured (read ALOT of topics about it) but still got some issues.
Had lots of thoughts on wether to go on Rokh or Raven, but as my current ship is Drake.. might as well go on missile side. Clearly this will be missioning ship mostly for lvl 4's as the Drakes DPS is horrible. So here goes,
HIGHS: 6x Cruise launchers (-> Arbalest -> T2) 1x Drone link 1x NOS?
MEDS: 2x Invulnerability field II 1x Heat dissipation field II 1x Photon scattering field II 1x Large shield booster II 1x Shield boost amplifier II
LOWS: 2x BCS II 3x PDS II
RIGS: 3x CCC I
The problem here is my bloody Cap.. my skills are mostly towards the passive setup so you guys know what i mean. Question is, should i change those two hardeners for passive mods instead?
ANY help on these parts would be ALOT appreciated.

Edited by: white kight on 03/09/2008 09:40:39 Is this for missions or PvP?
Edit - Misread post...
What you need to do is go for racial tanking in missions. Drop the onmitank unless you are fighting drones and go with the racials e.g. Guriastas = Kinetic/Thermal tank. This is a more effective way of doing the missions and less easy for the tank to break. Sig removed, inappropriate content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Edited by: Strill on 03/09/2008 10:03:14 Edited by: Strill on 03/09/2008 09:58:51 I'm looking at that setup in EFT and your cap looks ok even with Energy Management and Energy Systems Operation both at level 3. Even though it's not cap-stable, it can still tank about the same sustained and reinforced dps as a comparable dual-repper dominix if you swap the current hardeners out for rat-specific hardeners. As it is it might have a bit of trouble with some of the harder missions if it aggros too much though.
From what I can see, you can become just nearly cap stable by getting both cap skills to level 5. If you don't wanna do that then you can get fit a heavy NOS and get both cap skills to level 3, which should have about the same effect.

Change the 2 invulns to rat specific hardeners and drop 1 hardener for a cap mod (cap charger or cap booster according to taste - I prefer chargers but I have maxed cap skills), and use an XL booster, not a large - permatanking is over-rated... otherwise your setup is pretty much bang on.
Guristas/Serps/Pith/EoM: 2x Kinetc 1x Therm Sansha/Blood: 2x EM 1x Invuln if you can use t2, or therm if not Angels: 1x Explosive 1x Invuln, target painter (use torps vs angels) Drones: 2x Invuln 1x EM Mercs: 1x Invuln 1x Kinetic 1x therm, kill the EM-cruisers quick (laser caracals wtf?)
PS DONT FORGET YOUR DRONES. Go to overview settings and make sure the thing that shows you who is using EW on you is checked. Anything scrambles you tell your drones to kill it right away. Webs aren't an issue in a raven, but warp scams definitely are.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

I recently upgraded to a Raven in pretty much the same situation as you, strapped on a XL booster, boost amplifier and 4 racial hardeners (good named, not even T2), and had no problem whatsoever staying alive with pretty mediocre shield skills (shield and cap skills mostly at 3 when I started, up to 4 now).
Yes your booster can run the cap dry in 2 minutes, which is why you don't perma run it. Use all those passive tanking skills to your advantage and just pulse the booster at 25% shield, bring it up to 35% and switch it off again. This keeps your shields in that sweet spot with the most passive regen and gives the cap time to recover in between pulses.
I tend to keep 2 heavy noses on something at all times and let my drones take out anything that scrambles just in case, but I very rarely have to warp out and have only gone into armour once (as a result of getting ****y and trying to finish off one more BS before I warped).
Currently I am juggling the fit constantly as my skills allow more and more t2 mods and I try to squeeze them in without running out of cpu but the named t1 fit seemed plenty tough and once I got the hang of it cap wasn;t an issue.

DW I hate specific tanking, always annoys me having to change the fittings on my ship, no matter how simple it is.
I would fly with something like:
6 cruise launchers - whatever 2 stuff (mining lasers)
1 XL booster II 2 Shield boost amp II 2 Invul field II 1 Cap recharger II / Heavy cap booster II (if your cap skills are that bad)
3 BCU 2 Cap flux coils
3 CCC
Of course what I would really want to fly with: ^-^
6 siege launchers 2 whatevers
1 XL shield booster 2 Invul field II 2 Shield boost amps 1 100MN Afterburner II / Cap recharger II
3 BCU 2 Cap flux coils (pdu if I need grid)
2 hydraulic launch bay thrusters (velocity) 1 rocket fuel partition (flight time)
Doom those rats! Also worth mentioning this fitting will have a high chance of death lol

Cape flux coils dont they nerf shield boost? ithink the cap regain from pdu's is good enough +3 ccc and decent skills shld ezily let you tank enough to kill everything, really just use rat specific hardeners :P Proudly annoying FC's since 2007

In that case you'll at best have half the tank you could have, which wouldn't be adequate for a good portion of level 4 missions.

Actually they don't Biggie, that's CPR's. Flux coils give better sustained tank than PDS give, and so they shouldn't be ruled out in my opinion. PDS do give a slightly better burst tank, however, due to the extra bonuses they give aside from regen. It just comes down to whether you want a better tank over time (go with flux), or a better burst tank and slightly better EHP (go with PDS).

So if i want a permarunning ship with no mod switching between missions.. what would be the best kinda setup? i don't care much if i loose some DPS over the perma tanking. Any suggestions?

Edited by: goodby4u on 04/09/2008 17:03:15 I used this setup to run missions with my now dead alt, it was decently affective.
6x cruise II. 1x large shield booster II 4x rat specific hards II 1x sensor booster. 3x bcu IIs 1x pdu 1x damage control II.
No rigs...
Reason no rigs is because I couldnt afford them at the time, I would use this setup as a longrange vessel(most mission rats spawn at long ranges from you or you can move away from them before the fight begins).
But if you added rat specific mods on your current setup youll be peachy.
