EVE Fanfest is always a special time, but this year was even more amazing than ever.
There are not enough words available to express the grandness of this event and the gratitude to you, the players (present at Fanfest or at home), who made all this possible in the end. So I will just shorten it to two words:
THANK YOU! CCP Phantom - German Community Coordinator |

I am also lost for words, it was so fantastically amazing, having to been to every single fanfest then I can say for sure this one was the best yet! Already looking towards to the 10 year anniversary fanfest on the 25th of April next year!
THANK YOU!

I want to thank for you all for fanfest 2012 but still i got to hand it to you it was not good as last 2 fest's Last fanfest and the fanfest before were much MUCH more awesome. why Well ccp had theme's like Caldari and Gallante and i worked (HARD) last year making Minmatar theme And ofc i didnt get it because of Harpa And that was not only it, there were no live agents and that sucked because the are fun to do and you can actually do something instead of putting a finger in your nose and sit and do nothing. And also what was wrong is there was no like pvp area active for eve only, it was just DUST and this was a Dustfanfest i would say Well im half way there.... Hilmar Veigar said that they had to use Harpa because there are so many ppl going on fanfest and it would be bigger. ( They only used one third of Laugardagsh+¦ll Well i wanted to go to few roundtables and some presentations like black ops and more and i couldn't because there were so many ppl and there were ppl standing outside of the room and ofc i didnt hear anything. But in Laugardagsh+¦ll the place we had it last year ppl could go in the roundtable room and just stand ( in the room ) and listen I had the best fanfest's in Lauardagsh+¦ll and it looked awsome ( like a spacestation out and inside ) and i could be on all roundtable meetings i could pvp in eve all days, i did live agent missions, and got on the most presentations i wanted But anyway i want to thank you for fanfest, and i had good time but not much as i did for the past years and i hope it will be much more epic the next year then it did now, and hopefully get some live agents... Fly safe [:=d

I wanted to thank you all for making Fanfest as awesome as it is.
This community is something different, it makes me so happy that you are all willing to travel to Iceland to meet each other and us and talk about spaceships. The energy and the atmosphere makes me just so happy to be a part of it all.
Meeting people who tell me they love EVE and tell me they love what I do at work is so inspiring and I'm not sure there's anything that makes me happier!
And those stories you have shared with me, I love them! I was sat at a table at the charity dinner with two guys who were here for their fourth Fanfest, they had been playing together for some time before they realized that they lived just really close to each other and have been best friends since. This just proves how EVE is not just a game but also this amazing community where you meet people and make BFFs.

I am finding it hard to properly express how amazingly awesome this week has been, meeting old friends and making new friends, a weekend of awesome interaction with the best fans in the universe topped by a mind blowing party with some great music.
This was my first fanfest since coming to work at CCP and being on the other side of the curtain does not take any of the shine out of this event, thank you to all the fans, colleagues and friends who made this one of the best events I have ever had the privilege of working on.
And just so you know - Team Haggis (The Dust 514 PVP winners for anyone who missed it) - When your picture came up on the big screen during the keynote and you all shouted "TEAM HAGGIS!!!" My biggest regret from Fanfest this year is that my duties with press kept me from being able to talk to players every single moment of ever single day. Luckily for me, the press stuff went super smoothly. Social Media stuff not as awesome as I'd like, btu I still got in a few official tweets and Facebook posts (sorry G+ and Reddit!)
I did get some choice chances to get in good conversations, during the party and late at night in the lobby of the Hotel Plaza, and it was glorious. I expect each of those conversations to continue in the coming weeks.
To echo what so many of the devs have already said, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. AND THANK YOU SOME MORE.
There's a reason why I teared up during the epic trailer at the end of Fanfest. It was the moment where I felt like last year (the thoughest I'd gone through professionally) was finally done, chapter closed. And we got through it with you guys, the players, the creators and friends and warriors and comedians and brothers and sisters of New Eden.
Thank you for believing in us. For joining us in Iceland and for helping us create the worlds we do. As you heard, we want EVE Forever. With you. Will you marry us?! ======== o7 CCP Manifest | Public Relations and Social Media | @ccp_manifest |

I told CCP Seagull that I probably wouldn't make it to next year's FanFest. Iceland's been monopolising my holiday budget for the past two years now. But you know what? I'm kidding myself.
10th anniversary? Fantastic devs? Awesome community? CREST and more Dev Track stuff (props to Cobra Kai!)? Yet another Party at the Top of the World? And of course Iceland--a reason in itself? Yeah, I'll be back.
Thanks to CCP and to everyone that came to FanFest! Even the ones that threw their toys out of the pram.

It was good to watch Fanfest this year. Maybe next year will be the year the stars will align properly and I can visit Iceland.
The final trailer was very cool. Would CCP ever be willing to sell the tools needed to a 3rd party so we could get some really, really good machinima from a dedicated fan? And/or about how long did that video take to make in time and how much effort would a full 60-150 minute movie be? Cause that would be awesome! I would pay good money to see that. What a week. Thank you to every single one of our players who came to Iceland, watched us on EVE TV or simply played the game and had some fun. You made it an amazing Fanfest and it was great to talk to so many of you. Your words, thoughts and comments are the things which help us shape the world we are making for you and your commitment to us means a huge amount.
And thank you to every single person within CCP who helped make this a truly unforgettable time. It has been a tough 12 months and I think Fanfest 2012 has helped us draw a line, move on and really aspire to do great things.
And for those of you who thought this was good, EVE 10th anniversary Fanfest next year. Who would miss it?

Thank you guys, this was an incredibly awesome experience. Before FF, i was quite worried about DUST ******* up with EVE but CCP made me really comfortable about integration of DUST into the EVE universe. Although i am absolutely contra console-playing and FPS in particular for myself, i have to admit DUST is quite a cool game. Before FF, i was very sceptical about the market for a console game like DUST, cause console gaming tend to be a short term thing, which does not match very well with the looooong term objectives of the EVE MMO. Now, i realized that you guys intent to create this market from scratch with a game unseen yet in the exisiting FPS market. I wish all the for this.
One part aside from CCPs Fanfest content, that i did not expect, was to team up with so many people, i usually shoot at ingame. That was really fun.
I since i had no time in participating the Fanfest Improvement round table i have some comments for improvement
1.) pre and post fanfest dedicated temporary forums. Some of them strictly for attendees, most of them read-only for the non-attendees and full rights for attendees. Like 2 weeks before a forum, where people can share their experience from prior FFs. where they can plan meetings & events aside from the FF. Post FF a forum with a thread on each event item of the fanfest. Both should of course not be open for eternity, but i like to see follow-ups on the forum and sort of preserve this very special enviroment of Fanfest for a little while.
2.) we need to have a partnering tool to meet up with people !!! It is so hard to find somebody specific if there is 5000 of us roaming around.
For next year i envision EVE apps for our mobile phones, which allows us to "convo" or even GPS track each attendee, which also allows alliances to do some partnering and recruting on the Fanfest. I dont want you guys from CCP spent too much resources on programming for this, but how about an open source community project, thats stirred and approved by CCP.
So if we have an app like this, you could integrate this into the registration process for fanfest. On my feature list app for this would be
a.) Registration: you decide if you want to provide your ingame personality (per API key selected from one of your accounts, not just the account you used for paying). optional RL data like name & nationality
b.) Search functions, pretty much like ingame but just for attendees
c.) watchlist for anybody who enabled the GPS tracking. Wouldnt it be cool if have something like overview settings for your "local"
d.) Calendar tool, where you could schedule events aside from the main events. Of couse the CCP driven events should be also in the calender.
3.) some computers for quick interactions with EVE ingame. Something like a 10 minute limitation per session, so that isnt hell-camped. Just for skill change, short ingame convos, etc.

Christ.
Haven't been to fanfest since 2007, due to RL time constraints. Sat on the fence this year for a long time before deciding to go, and booked fairely 'last minute'ish when the prices had already shot up.
This week has been so goddamn awesome, meeting up with old friends like Seleene, Dri Kulsane, CCP Navigator, Soundwave. Also met Punkturis, albeit sadly only in passing (she's a bit of a bro though, as rumour has it), and spent the week chatting to so many Devs it was hard to keep count.
I'm sure Punkturis will understand me when I say '/groan at the guy in the blue top'
Big shout out to CCP Arrow though, because his real name does actually translate to 'Arrow', and he's in the UI team, so he draws Arrows and stuff.
Will be going next year, no two doubts about it, and will be booking as soon as is possible. :) |

Thank you to everyone I met during Fanfest: The guys at the charity dinner who came from a compnay where every employee is an EVE player, the guy at my table with the spectacular EVE tattoo, the guys at my second table who had such great interest and ideas for bug reporting, the sisters of EVE I had the pleasure of accompanying on that adventurous trip on Friday, those who showed up at the QA round table...... It was soooo much fun meeting you all - I had a blast! Thank you. |

Team Haggis Failsquad indeed best squad!
As an 8th time Fanfest attendee, I have to say that this was so far my favourite one! Most of the gripes I had with last year's FF had been fixed for this one - including manned wardrobe and a "players only" area for the party.
I'm also happy with what I saw (and tried) of Dust. I was a bit worried about the implementation into EVE and if the game was even worth playing (especially for someone like me who doesn't usually like FPS, mainly because I suck at them, hehe), but I must admit that had I not won a PS3, I'd probably have ended up buying one after all, despite having told myself I wouldn't.
Harpa is an amazing building - I am quite curious about attendee numbers though, as you only really noticed the massive amount of people when queueing up to get into TQ.
Last but not least, big <3 to my space bros and sistas! |

I had possibly the biggest grin there has ever been on earth plastered on my face. Thank you.
We love you too, Haggis! (Failsquad!) Failsquad best squad!
Another shout-out to failsquad, you guys where awesome. We couldn't have won without you! And 8th time in a row? you put my 6th in a row to shame, damn you Icelandic drinking laws for preventing me from going to the first two!
And just as you I was positivity blown away by Dust. And walking away with a PS3 and a beta key only made it all the better!
And the venue was very nice, especially the player only lounge though the music in there was a little loud at times but much better than what we had to work with last year. It's so nice to be able to sit down and talk EVE during the party. After all, that's why we where there, right? What I missed from last year was the theme, I worked hard on making it Minmatar this year and all we got was some scorpions and no Agent mission. Please make it Minmatar themed next year and some new and improved agent missions to go with it.
But as a final note, and the most important note, GO TEAM HAGGIS! We need to meet up in the beta so that we can win again next year!

AWESOMENESS HAS A NAME! ( and it's called FanFest )
First time I was there, and I was mindblown, met soooo many people, got more drunk than I had in years, and had a generally awesome time. I'm more or less recuperated now, though my feet are still being very cross with me about what I made them do last week. The pool party at the blue lagoon helped a lot though.
I will most certainly be there next year, which I hope will be even more Epic than this year ( which is a tall order methinks )

a big thank you to CCP and most of all to the players, this years fanfest was amazing, so much fun, so much madness, combat phil you know what i mean
one thing though, party could have been better, it's a bit worrying when the dev band is better than the main ones. no vodka shot girls, no live agents, no beer cards,, return these to next years please.
still it has to be said, fanfest 2012 was brilliant, although i did think last years was better.

Awesome work on FF2012 CCP! I still have never made it in person, but I live it vicariously through the HD stream from EveTV who does a super fantastico job of making it real for those of us who can't fly out to a rock in the middle of nowhere. I can't wait to watch all of the roundtables and other sessions that weren't broadcast live when they finally go up on YouTube.
If I had one suggestion to make for 2013 it would be this: PLEEEEEEEASE oh PLEAAAASE sort the situation where half of the sessions don't even have mic runners so that questioners in the audience can be heard on the broadcast! Srsly, it's not rocket science or anything... "The world as we know it came about through an anomaly (anomou)" (The Gospel of Philip, 1-5)-á |

FANFEST was awesome. Full of surprise's and new things we can't wait for but for the Faction warfare and some of things about changing the game Kinda disappointed me. Its a shame they can't throw in NPC's fighting one another. Say you got two systems that the o Militias have and no one is fighting there. You can have NPC's battling it out across both systems just to add some atmosphere to FW. As for the missions you should some date chip so you can only or your fleet to warp into the mission without PL dropping Caps on you. Another thing is that should allow Minmater or Gallente in one of the Militias instead of Amarr pilots. It seems stupid that a Amarr can join a Minmater Militia. But everything else in this vid is alright but it could use some work. But I would really love to see some NPC's duking it out both in lowsec and hi-sec. Minmater NPC's ambushing Amarr transport. Something of some sorts.
It be great for CCP to add lots of NPC's flying around doing stuff. In the books or story's' they say its a rich place with pilots or ships everywhere. Its be great too ships just flying around to add more immersion too the game. But not so that it can crash games or anything like that. Just more activity. Plus it be better for pirates too get some good loot or just unleash their inner pirate when they can't kill anything atm.
Just my opinion,
But overall, a great Fanfest and EVE FOREVER!!! |

This was my first fanfest and it just blew me away
When CCP offers the hospitality of the house they mean it in the grandest possible way. This is how you do it right. I went from round table to keynote to demo, it was an inspiration. I forgot to eat sometimes, that's how busy I was
To finally meet the people you only read about or see in pictures, that's very cool. It's also a great help not to have to explain to someone what this EVE thing is you're involved in
I fell in love with Iceland and its people. I now have a better understanding of where EVE Online comes from. I see the magic :-)
When I was taking a bus tour, not the EVE tour, the tour guide mentions there's this convention thing going on about EVE Online, something he first heard about 10 years ago during his masters' studies. There's a guy who says it would be a great idea to have a virtual space game with a player-driven economy. The tour guide says it sounded like a daft idea then and he still thinks its a daft idea
10 years on he's a tour guide [and there's nothing wrong with being a tour guide], while I'm flying all the way to Iceland to meet other people from all over the planet

I was one of those High Sec Carebears!
I convinced My Corp Mate to join me this year for Fanfest The Dust Beta Key pushed him over the edge. we arrived a few days early to do the tourist thing, but got caught up Drinking with the Devs @ their bar, which was practically across the street from our hotel! Did not get to as much non eve stuff as I would have liked, but there's always next year! Next year i will have to book more time off before and after fanfest. It was so difficult leaving the Blue Lagoon to catch our plane.
I have posted the Map of Reykjavik I got from the hotel at my Desk at Work (12 months to plan next year's trip)
2 Suggestions for next year
1) Clearer info regarding registration for events (Dust514 Tournament, Pub Crawl, etc) Many people who paid for the Pub Crawl were unaware you had to sign up for a group until the Crawl was underway.
2) Better ownership (Registration) of additional events Pub Crawl, Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle Tour, etc. The passes for the extra items were handed out as generic tickets without ownership info. My Corp Mate's pass fell off his Lanyard as we were leaving Harpa on Thursday night with 2 Pub Crawl passes, and a blue Lagoon pass. (Fortunately a conscientious Pilot/Dev returned it to the Info Desk mid-day Friday) \o/
Overall and Awesome Time
PS> if next year's Fanfest is half the size I expect it to be with 2 or more venues, a shuttlebus or 3 would be a necessity "Zee Goggles, Zey Do Nothing!"

I have to point out that this was stated on the FanFest events pages. However, CCP Guard and Darth Beta did confuse things slightly during the cover of CCP Unifex's kick-off session on Thursday by saying that there were sign-ups for round-table sessions when it was simply first-come, first-to-nick-a-chair.
On the subject of suggestions, something for the sober folk would be nice (like in 2011) during the pub crawl. I know sobriety is a strange concept during FanFest, but I was told that group had filled up just like all the others so there are a fair few out there...

I just saw that and am watching it RIGHT NAOW!! Thanks Arrow! I work in advertising and used to be a UI designer so this issue near and dear to my heart.
I know these are just works in progress, but if I could give a thought for your future UI reworking - the "brackets" or icons for ships & drones, it would be nice if they could be feint if the mouse is not over them and they are not targeted, and have just a "bracket" with their specific shiptype icon over to the top left or top right, so the actual in-game model doesn't get covered up by the UI. It would give the impression, in my opinion, of being less cluttered, especially in a huge battle. Reducing the clutter and making details available for those who need it when they need it, but not present all the details at once would really help I think. I hope this makes sense, I'm really excited for the next UI devblog!! |
