Edited by: Warmal Thunker on 03/09/2008 17:33:54 After all the whine threads lately I thought of posting something more positive.
The last few days I have been having my first FC experiences with the Caldari FW fleets. I have really enjoyed reaching the next level of my Eve 'life' and thought I would share my experience here.
First some background. I have been doing PvP in EVE for quite a while now but was generally flying with players way more experienced that me. (SF and Stim later). There I have flow with some great FC's so I have some idea of what a good FC needs to do.
After a break from Eve related to the birth of my son I returned to the game and joined the Caldari Militia.
Flying in several large gangs I found that my computer was just too slow to deal with the large fleet blobs so I am now focusing on the smaller fights. At this time I had finished the training required to jump into the Rapier. There are a lot of small ships moving around in low sec but they will run from a Rapier as soon as they see it. And I thus needed someone to engage them for the initial fight. I asked in militia chat for some interceptors to join me and there I was, FC for the first time.
We got a well known pilot in a polycarb ceptor to engage one of my Crow pilots while I was sitting cloaked at 7k off. The trap worked as planned and we ran back home from a large Blob fleet that came after us. Safe at home no losses.
The next day I logged on again and asked if there were any fleets that I could join. There did not seem to be any active so I decided that I might as well try this FC thing again. I asked for pilots but only in interceptors or ships with cloaks on them. The x's were slowly coming in until we got about 15 pilots in total. There was a big blob in Tama so we made our way around it through high sec and headed toward old man star. A good time was head by all we killed several ships on some gates and a bunch of plex runners. When the large response fleet spawned in Old Man Star we made our way back to safe space with just a single loss.
On my third day I logged on to find that an established FC was going to take out a fleet in about an hour. At this time a 20 man mostly t1 wt cruiser fleet was flying around our home system while we were all waiting for the FC to show up.
While we were waiting for the FC I went over to Jita to buy and fit a Falcon so that I could give that ship a try. Time went by and the FC was not showing up. I guess he had some RL issue to deal with first. I got impatient and decided to try to FC again and then hand the fleet over whenever our main FC showed up.
I guess many people were getting hungry for PvP since a lot of x's were given until we had about 30 in fleet. I again asked for fast ships only but there were also some t1 cruisers from pilots that could not fly interceptors. I told them that they could follow us but that we would not wait around for them and they might get tackled. There were some other experienced pilots in the fleet and I asked if anyone else would like to FC but there were no takers.
We jumped around but space looked very empty. The t1 cruiser gang was no where to be found. We made our way to old man star and jumped around a bit. Eventually a response fleet spawned for us. The problem was that at this point we lost the element of surprise and that fleet had a Falcon a Huggin and several BC's.
At this point things got a bit chaotic. In the end we had an engagement with this fleet where I found that a Falcon is not a good ship to FC from. I had to warp off to get in position and could not call targets during that. Later I ended up with a Huginn that had me pointed. I put two Minmatar jammers on it but they both failed to jam it and I died. I called the bail order since their Falcon was still alive and able to jam at will.
By this time the main FC had shown up. I disbanded the fleet and suggested people join up with his fleet.

Some lessons that I learned:
1. Do not FC in a Falcon. 2. Train ECM skills further before jumping into another Falcon. 3. Do not expect to 'pilot' your own ship in a detailed manner when directing a fight against more then 5 pilots. 4. Try to maintain the element of surprise. This may be easier with a smaller fleet.
In conclusion I would like to thank CCP for this great game and the pilots in my fleets for flying with me and suffering the consequences of mistaked made by me as I am learning.
