Ok. im not sure if this is the right forum to post this on. But i have been wondering this questions:
What is a Cosmic Anomallily? I may have been mistaken. but what are the bpos for cosmic anomallilies?
What are the different types of scanning?
I heard you can scan out hidden belts to mine in. If so how do you do this? Is there a guide to this? Can someone tell me all about this?
As you can see im a little confused when it comes to scanning. i know you can scann out ships and stuch i used to be a pirate with my main. so i know the basics in scanning and probing out ships.
but other than that can someone clearify and i appologize for the spelling errors. i suck at spelling.
Thanks -Sky

Hoshi's guide forum topic is one of the best and can be found here.
The best way to actually get a good overview of scanning is by SRRAE's video, of which I've seen a great quality one shortly after exploration was introduced, but of which I now only find this copy on Youtube which unfortunately is not very clear quality but still shows how it's done.
Beware that most exploration guides and tutorials are a bit outdated as exploration and scanning is still getting updated with every big patch. For instance now when scanning for only "cosmic anomaly's", something you can do with either the on-board scanner or probes you will find only deadspaces with some simple level 1 mission type situations.
If you're only scanning for "cosmic signature's", something that can only be done with scan probes (not recon probes) you can only find one of five different types of exploration sites: Hacking, Archeology/salvaging, gas clouds, hidden asteroid belts and encounter exploration sites.
Check out the links that I provided for a better explanation

Huh?
As far as exploration, you're mostly looking for Cosmic Signatures. Unknown sites are combat plexes that can escalate and/or drop deadspace/faction loot. Gravimetric sites are hidden asteroid belts...pretty useless in hisec, but great in lowsec/0.0. Radar/Magnetometric sites are Hacking/archaeology+salvaging sites respectively.
Anomalies are basically "Encounters". They CAN escalate, but very rarely. They can be found with probes or the onboard scanner. They vary by sec status. In hisec, they're rare and usually only have frig rats. In lowsec, they're very common and have some BS rats and can be damn valuable. They're like a cross between missions and ratting..it's like missions in that you get large numbers of enemies to take on at once, and like ratting in that the loot/salvage/bounties aren't gimped like in missions.
Not sure about 0.0 anomalies though.

Edited by: Muskiet on 04/09/2008 01:09:59 No problem, as for cosmic anomaly blueprints... they don't exist. I can't find anything either in the market or contracts that even has the word cosmic in it.
I bet you refer to the bp's that come from exploration sites or from COSMOS missions.
The bp's from exploration sites are invention related bpc's (like decryptors) and faction item bpc's from officer spawns in escallating encounter sites.
The bp's from COSMOS missions are a different beast altogether. For more on COSMOS missions I recommend this link. These bpc's are mostly worthless as the work and/or ISK spend on gathering required skills and materials is usually much more then the finished products are worth. Also a lot of these COSMOS items can be found in wrecks of mission rats without the hassle of having to build it Some of them though can only be found if build from one of the bpc's found in the COSMOS missions and can be worth quite a bit. Mostly people gather COSMOS mission bpc's though for their bpc collection.
edit: mind you... the bpc's are mostly worthless, but what makes COSMOS missions worth the hassle is the fact that each one of them is a storyline mission which can boost your faction standings real quick.

Thanks Kahega Amielden! :]

I haven't found good low sec ores in hidden belts since just after their introduction. Then I found Edbergite, Gneiss and other goodies in high-sec, but I guess someone complained about lowering prices because these days the best I found is Jaspet and only in small amounts. Mind you... I'm not trying to find them anymore either. I stopped scanning and mining them when I found only Kernite and Omber being the "valuable" ores in hidden belts.

ah ok thanks Muskiet again :]
yah thats why i was interested in scanning is the hidden belts and that i was told about the "low sec" ore being in them. so i guess its not worth it.
Thanks guys for your answers :D

because of the Drone Regions, lowsec ores suck. I'm serious when I say that Veld is the most profitable ore save for Kernite, which is only marginally more profitable.
If you go into lowsec you can get 0.0 ores, though...Gneiss/Ochre is VERY nice to mine.
